  1. I only have Tamiya paints at the moment so it’s good to know that they work with this technique. Appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Stay safe and enjoy!
  2. Trying to recreate the wood grain patterns of some dashes, door panels, etc, but no idea how. How is it done? I don’t have access to an air brush. Only brushes and cans. Stay safe and enjoy!
  3. Thank you very much for this information!! It saved me writing another post on how to remove fisheyes.
  4. Thanks. Appreciate it. Stay safe and enjoy!
  5. Thanks everyone for all the advice and information. It is very much appreciated. The link was a great help too. I've put some additional information below. I tried the 2-3 light mist coats method (is that a method) from roughly 15 cm away to avoid runs, which means that I probably sprayed too lightly for the paint to become "wet". And is probably why the pink primer is showing through the on the roof. I thought the area was clean but by looking at the lint on the model I was obviously wrong. I will mist some water in the paint area before spaying again in an effort to eliminate this problem. The primer was smooth, or so I thought but again it obviously wasn't. I will wet sand the body with 1500 then 2000 paper, let dry then respray the body. After the model dries I will use the Tamiya polishing compounds before applying a final clear coat. This is assuming that I get the body paint right the next time. Again thanks to all who took the time to answer my question. Stay safe and enjoy!
  6. Hello, I really enjoy your magazine and the forum. they are a great source of inspiration and information. However, in the last issue (211) pages 44-47 don’t load properly. I have tried refreshing the pages, singing out then back in again, etc. And the other pages take a very long time even when using a high speed fiber Internet connection. I use either an iPad Air or an iBook pro to view my subscription, visit the forum. Same results for both devices. Also, is there any way to get the magazine delivered in PDF format for subscribers? As a digital copy is being made for the magazine application saving to PDF shouldn’t be much extra work. It would allow subscribers to read the magazine without being connected to the Net. A remain logged in option be added to the view the magazine would be welcomed. Remembering/looking up the subscription number is a bit of a pain. Sorry for all the whining. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Stay safe and enjoy! Sincerely, Conrad P.s. Sent to the editor as well without screen shots.
  7. How does one get rid of the orange peel effect from an imperfect spray can paint job? All paint and primer used was by Tamiya. Pink surface primer and TS8 (Italian Red). Body was lightly sanded then primed before two light coats of top coat were applied.
  8. Thanks for the informative answer. The wagon build looks great. stay safe and enjoy!
  9. Hello all, I am trying to paint the body of my first model in a very long time. 40 years ago I just rattle caned the model directly, but I’d like to try something a little more sophisticated now. Still going to use a Tamiya spray can until I feel confident enough to get an air brush. My plan is: remove excess flash; wash/dry the model; prime the body; spray a light covering first coat; spray a second light coat; spray a light coat of the body color; let dry; sand lightly with 400 paper; spray a second light coat; sand lightly with 800 paper; spray a light clear coat; sand lightly with 1000 paper; spray another light clear coat; sand lightly with 2000 then polish using Tamiya polishing compound (coarse, fine and finish). I will let the model dry between coats. Am I on the right path or have I gone of into Lala land? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Stay safe and enjoy.
  10. Thanks for the advice all. And jaymcminn for the summary. appreciate it very much. stay safe and enjoy!
  11. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, your choice. How do you apply decals on no smooth surfaces. I am building an old Tamiya motorcross rider and have to apply decals to his jersey which is molded to look like it has wrinkles. How do I do this? Thanks for reading. Stay safe and enjoy!
  12. Ok, thanks for the information. I'd be happy with a downloadable PDF, if that counts for anything. Stay safe and enjoy!
  13. Exotics_Builder: Thanks for the Tamiya product listings. I can easily get them here in Japan. TooOld: thanks for the explanation. It is appreciated.
  14. Thanks for the information. I'll try this on the next set of decals. Sadly these are already bits and pieces. Tried to find Sovaset, but it is not available in Japan. Any other brands of similar products I could look for? Stay safe and enjoy!
  15. I just picked up an old kit at a hobby shop that was closing down. The kit is a Tamiya KTM 250MX. Kit Number: 1451-1200. While I know the kit isn't a car kit, the problem I am having, other than bad eyesight and unsteady hands, is similar. When I tried to apply the decals they "crumbled" when I tried to slide them the paper backing onto the plastic. I soaked the decals for several minutes before trying to place them. Am I doing something wrong? If yes, then how do I overcome this problem? Thank you for taking the time to read this. Stay safe and enjoy!
  16. Next question is: Is there a downloadable version so I can read the magazine without having to be connected to the Internet? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Stay safe and enjoy!
  17. So I figured it out, sort of. I think. You have to go to the Renew/Login page of from Subscriptions. Then enter your account number and postal code. Hope this helps other newbies who may have the same problem. Stay safe and Enjoy!
  18. Xingu: Thanks for flagging this for the Admin. Admin: Thanks for looking into this for me. Looking forward to seeing the magazine. I am an international subscriber from Japan, if that makes a difference. Postal code is 464 0850.
  19. I know it’s is a simple question, but how do I see the magazine after I’ve subscribed? last week I subscribed for one year digital. How do I get to see the magazine? sorry for the ignorance. stay safe and enjoy!
  20. Thanks for all the great tips. It is appreciated. stay safe and enjoy!
  21. I've read a few posts on paint stripping of older models to be repainted, but how do you deal with the glue bombs. The early kits you built where each part received its own tube to secure it to the next. How does one overcome that mess. Thanks for reading. Stay safe and enjoy! Edit: Can't spell.
  22. It is decent, but more effort on my part could improve the times a lot. I'm just a bit lazy. ; )
  23. Thank you. The best I've managed was 13.25. Most of my other times were closer to 14. With a better driver and race tires I'm sure it could go a little faster.
  24. Thanks. It is a lot of fun to drive. Enjoy!
