Winged Sprint Car Build

In the wrong thread. This is the thread for NASCAR builds. Mind you, it looks good so far. -

Isn't Mike Herman the owner/operator of Powerslide decals? -
Ryan Blaney
Johnny Canuck replied to Model Guy's topic in Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Nice looking build. In a season with so many different paint (wrap) schemes for Blaney, this one was easy on the eye. Great job capturing it. -
Great build. Love this car. In 1973 season, this Mercury earned the second highest win percentage (18 races, 11 wins, 14 top 5s) of all time for a single car and driver. Any guesses which driver and which model car hold the record. It isn't Petty in '67. Like Pearson, our winner did not run a full season.

No. There was a lot of variance in interior colours back then. An example: Earnhardt in the late 80's and '90s favoured a red interior paint scheme in his black cars. Same with Texas Terry Labonte in '84 -white and blue exterior colours but red interior. Petty ran with the traditional Petty blue throughout. Junior Johnson generally favoured black interiors to help hide his creative, rule-defying shenanigans. Thomas from Germany rolled with the scheme you're looking to create in his build of that car: Randy Ayers Nascar Modeling Forums :: View topic - Raybestos Brakes Buick (randyayersmodeling.com) -
1963 Super Torque Ford
Johnny Canuck replied to MarkJ's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
My cheeky reference to 'perky' details aside, this is a fine build and a truly instructive one as well. I'm a big Fast Freddy fan and have both of his '63 and '64 cars on my production line. Thanks for sharing the details of your build. -

Seriously perky hood pins. Didja shoot those pics in cold weather? -

Them sprue cutter pics giving me flashbacks to the house demolition scene with Will Smith - and the cat - in the movie I, Robot. :-{] -
Camaro Late Model
Johnny Canuck replied to raisin27's topic in Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
"Oooh, Bob Senneker's gonna be in this race," was a common reaction amongst us youngsters who followed the Southern Ontario late model stock car scene back in the early '70s. If Bob was showing up, our Canadian favourites would have to be bringing their 'A' games to have any chance of winning. And he made frequent appearances at the big-money feature races in our area. He was a classy driver and as much as we wanted our local heroes to win, he earned much respect and admiration for his smooth driving. To say nothing of his cool-looking cars. This is wonderful tribute to him. Well done. -

From the re-worked engine mount and hood and trunk hinges to the incredible work on the seat, dashboard and interior details, I can't recall a better or more interesting NASCAR model build. Fabulous and inspiring. Thanks for taking us on the journey. -
Wish and hope for Donn to return to full health and resume his role as a great educator and source of guidance in modeling. Gained great knowledge from his previous contributions.

Nice build of a very memorable car. I bet seeing this car must be the stuff of nightmares for poor Carl Edwards. Or his fans. Amazing finale at Homestead. -
A minor nitpick that is out of your control Bob but it's gotta be said: The shade of blue in the drop shadow of the Petty '43' numbers is not accurate. I'm assuming you're using the Powerslide decals. The drop shadow on these decals looks too light, more of a royal blue than the deep, dark navy blue - almost black hue - that we saw on Petty cars back then. It just doesn't look right to me. Everything else about this car you have built is absolutely amazing. Inspirational, really. Still, I'd rather use the black drop shadow decals than this set of numbers. But not criticizing your choice. We work with what we have. Mike Herman at Powerslide could do us all a favour and re-issue an accurate decal sheet.

By no means is 1964 my favourite season for racing. Too many bad things happened to so many good racers. Your WIP build on the Jarrett '64 Ford was very instructive and directed viewers toward seeking out the many more useful reference photos that are out on the internet.
