  1. Thanks. I've grown very fond of the inside bits from most Tamiya sports racing cars; mostly the wheels, tires plus suspension and transaxles. Some (Nissan 390, for example) have highly disappointing engine details, however. I like shrinking their floor plan (WB and width) to fit 1:25 scale older vintage cars like the Ford GT40, Porsche 914 or Lola T70. I am currently working on a 1959 ElCamino rear engined track day car. Who knows what will be next?
  2. I grew up in northern North Dakota near the Canadian border thus heard a LOT of Gordon LIghtfoot and became a big fan. When the Ed Fitz song came out I sang along but soon tired of the droning background. Fast forward to last year -- we visited the shipwreck museum in Michigan and they had the song on a loop. Very fitting in the context but by the tenth time it became tiring. Maybe some day I will resurrect it again at home. Until then, you cannot beat the "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" (now on monthly rotation on my 55 year old AR turntable).
  3. Hi Les, See picture below. I was hoping for something to go with my Revell 240Z kit but I have yet to trial fit any of them. I will definitely not use the square top flares nor probably not the full body sets. There are a few nice hidden things there including oil coolers, intercoolers and steering wheels. Bear in mind, this is only set #1 of three. You can collect all three and amaze your friends. I'll probably try to find uses for the rounded top flares but if any of the rest of the sets appeal to anyone they can be yours after a minimal donation to this web site. Marty
  4. Just got the box today. What a strange and wonderful bunch of stuff. Maybe some will end up being useful. M
  5. Interesting! Fortunately they clean up with water.
  6. Out of curiosity (stupidity?) I just ordered a Fujimi over fender set #1. Does anybody know if the flares are specific to individual kits or are they just cartoons? Thanks
  7. I just finished a Ferrari airbrushed with Tamiya flat red and followed with Tamiya matte clear. Cleaned up with water. Ended up looking nice kinda similar to the high dollar real car matte finishes. I only use Tamiya bottled paints because of my wife's sensitivities. I have no idea what the airbrush or tank are set up are. All I know is I have lots of cars on the shelf in the same (limited selection) Tamiya colors. Good luck
  8. Thanks for all the feedback. This was a fun little build.
  9. What did you use for wheels/tires? Also, you should be able to sneak a roll bar in there someplace. Love the body side graphics.
  10. If you have a 914 roller and a crashed Porsche GT1:
  11. My first order from 3D sat in the post office for two weeks while on vacation. Picked it up today and it was in perfect condition. I couldn't be happier with the detailing! Thanks Charles
  12. The Fujimi Ferrari Daytona has a wide selection of styrene tools including an oil filter wrench!
  13. Coincidentally, see attached Howmet TX Jet Powered Racecar at Monza | Watch
  14. Thanks for the info. Varnish it will be.
  15. The first coat of the silver looks wonderful. Should I proceed with the varnish coat or ignore it?
  16. Here you go. The white and blue cars both have the Ford quad cam engine from the MPC Gurney Eagle Indy car. Mostly box stock except I did a lot of filing and shaping of the one piece "bundle of snakes" exhaust casting to try to obtain a more correct multipiece exhaust system look. The silver car has the Tamiya Nissan R390 engine which was a very oddly shaped V8 and is now converted to a V12. In case you were wondering, the silver car body has been widened 16" and lengthened 20" to match the Tamiya suspension and chassis.
  17. When the MPC Howmet turbine cars came out I hated the engine. There are always alternatives I thought. Perhaps Ford's Indy Car V8. Maybe the Tamiya Nissan R390.
  18. A bit of trivia, the Howmet cars were based on a variation of the old McKee CanAm chassis. I have built several of the kits over the years but never used the turbine engine so if anyone needs one or more I would be happy to donate them. M
  19. Now if we could only find a Duck Duck JEEP dash upgrade for the Jeepster?
  20. Shunsaka Tamiya, the founder of the Tamiya modelling empire died last friday at 90 years. I thank him for my years of model building happiness and frustration. Marty
  21. SteveRacer, Not much else to show. I really wanted to do a full detail turbo Offy but ended up with a kinda curbside build. As an example, I have no idea how the offset Offy could possibly be connected to the centrally mounted transaxle. Thanks for the compliment and, By the way, loved the He(R)k pun. Marty
  22. Hurtubise was once in a crash that burned his hands. He insisted to the doctor that they be shaped to allow him to hold a steering wheel. Late in his career he entered Indy but couldn't find any sponsorship. He dragged his old roadster on an open trailer to the tech line anyway with a new "Coors Six Cylinder" sign on the hood. The tech crew open the hood to find it empty except for a six-pack of (you guessed it).
  23. Les, I guess I tried to say that I have already made resin centers for Revolution wheels and they are already mounted. I am sure the 3-D versions are better but too late to change. The reality is that I mostly used 3 piece modular Revolutions on the HP car. Quite heavy even after I substituted titanium bolts for the steel. I also had one piece aluminum versions that had been sectioned down to our then current maximum 5" width. Nobody accepted the welding or heat treatment but everybody used them for the Runoffs because, you know, lighter! Real racing was fun, especially when I moved up to DSR, but little plastic cars are certainly less costly. M
  24. Ah, the UCSP revolutions are exactly what I could have used six years ago.
