Very, very true. Where would one post a VW Firetruck Lowrider? -

I think we should first discuss whether it's appropriate to display them with the flag on the roof, or not. -
Engine in Belvedere?

Do you shop online?
Junkman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You may want to look into the purchase of a Caterham Super Seven? Btt: I simply cannot avoid to shop online, since hardly anything I want to buy is available locally. Most of the stuff is even Made in China, heavens forbid! Thanks god this is mainly restricted to my rather exotic hobbies, since in all other aspects of life I'm a keen advocate of anti-globalization, autonomy, and regional economy. I'm on a 100 mile seasonal diet, buy my clothes at a local men's fitter, support the local businesses as much as I can, drink beer from my local brewery down at the pub, have my cars serviced at a little garage down the street. I think I more than make up for what I spend on my hobbies, or the odd Honduras cigar, tea, coffee, or wine. -
It's exactly this I find counterproductive and plainly wrong. - It happened countless times that someone pointed something out on my models he doesn't like. Something which I never saw this way and which would have never occurred to me if he wouldn't have pointed it out. Hence, a huge thanks to all, who pointed out what they didn't like about my models! - This is a forum. Not a praise or sod off religious order. The purpose of forums is to invite opinion and debate, otherwise there would be no reason for their existence.

- I'm no longer posting my work in the workbench because I hardly get any responses on what I post, so I assume people aren't interested in what I build. People who post an open box with a body next to it get more response. - I'm no longer posting comments on other people's work in the workbench, since if it is good, many others do anyway, and if it is not so good, the whole world comes down on me when I do. - I'm not posting my work in the under glass, because none of my models are fished. - I'm no longer posting comments on other people's work in the under glass for the same reason I no longer post comments on other people's work in the workbench. Needless to say that I'm an avid browser of both sections and enjoy it a lot.

ITS GONNA BE A BLACKOUT TONIGHT!

You could have bought two model kits instead. -
Some people do strange things
Junkman replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know quite a few people who do strange things. They build plastic model kits. -

I really need to build one of these...
Junkman replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find them too tyre hugging. If need be, replace them with the ones from a 2CV? -

Leave the front mudguards and bumperettes away. And drop in a Viper V-10. -
Hey, congrats on the 9 month long project. I like the finish and details.

Collectors tins and things.
Junkman replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think that's quite easy. If you like the tinned kits, you buy them, if not, you leave them. It is my understanding though, that in some of the tinned kits, they include bonus stuff, which they omit from the cartonned counterparts. As always, all you have to do is stay patient until they have clearance sales. -

We're having a heat wave...
Junkman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That pretty much depends on one's infrastructure. If you are a partial open-air modeller like me, the weather is the most important thing. As a rule of thumb: The weather in England is only good for modelling, when I have to be in the office. The moment I finally manage to allocate time to paint a model car body, it sure will be like you see it in the movies. Nothing is better for a good paint job, than a heat wave. -
Dropping parts
Junkman replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, I was thinking already that everyone only mentions the tiny pieces lost in the wormhole. You are the first who brings up the major components being sucked into the black hole. I once lost the windscreen frame of a '53 AMT 'Vette and it never ever resurfaced. On a different note, one of those parallel universes exists in one's trouser turn-ups. Model kit parts happily mingle with the Chinese food that mysteriously vanished on it's way from the bowl to the mouth during the hapless attempts to master chopsticks. Or coins. The latter seriously got me into trouble at an airport security check a few years back. God knows where I would be now if it had been an AMT metal axle, aka an offensive weapon. Might well wear an orange suit somewhere in Cuba. -

No, this stuff doesn't yellow. And as I said, I use it for 25 years now.
