2023 Cannonball Run-What-You-Brung Build Thread
White Rabbit replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
Hello Rob! Thank you for your kind words! I'm truly honored to have the chance to moderate the Cannonball! I've loved the race since I was child and even more so today. Anthony did a great job and has entrusted me with continuing this great tradition. I will certainly do my best to ensure that this years CBR runs smoothly and is enjoyable for all. Furthermore, this is a community build, so I welcome everyone's feedback on how the run is progressing and for improvements along the way. The fact that the CBR is entering its 16th year says a lot about those who have moderated them. It also says a lot about the enthusiasm of all the builders who have participated and allowed the run to be successful. I'm hopeful that this year's run will see strong participation and, with this year's theme, a wide array of different and interesting builds. Thank you again to Anthony and to all the Cannonballers! Let's make the 2023 Cannonball one to remember! -

Already some good ideas being posted! As others have said, this Cannonball is a good opportunity to complete previous unfinished entries. And for those still undecided, this time until January 1st, is a great opportunity to brainstorm ideas and research for the upcoming build. And remember, you can build as many vehicles as you like and then simply choose your favorite as your final entry into the race. -

Cannonball Run 2023 Welcome Cannonballers to the 16th Annual Cannonball Run Community build! The Cannonball Run Community is proud to present this year’s Cannonball Run theme: Run-What-You-Brung This year’s build is classic Cannonball! The original 1:1 Cannonball had few restrictions, if any. Brock Yates’ impetus to begin the race was in response to the imposition of the 55mph speed limit. Brock set out to prove that skilled drivers in competent vehicles could indeed traverse the American interstate system at high speeds, safely. He proved this in 1971 as he and Dan Gurney won the race in a Ferrari GTB/4 Daytona. Therefore, the build is open to all street-legal cars and trucks of any year. Rules and Guidelines Vehicle Guidelines A. Vehicles must be street legal. They should include headlights, taillights, license plates, etc. Effectively, a vehicle that could be registered with the DMV. B. All body types welcomed: coupe, sedan, van, truck, etc. C. All vehicle years accepted: 1903-2023. D. Engines should be production-based. Any type of car and/or truck engine that was/is available to the public is permissible: internal combustion, both piston and rotary; hybrid and pure electric (EV). E. All drivetrains allowed: RWD, AWD/4-WD, FWD F. Modifications to the vehicles are welcomed and encouraged. 1. Modifications should be realistic to keep with the spirit of the race. Race Guidelines A. The build can be either a new or started kit up to 25% complete. A re-builder or parts box special is acceptable. 1/24 or 1/25. If you absolutely must do a 1/20 model we’ll likely bend the rules as we have before, but that’s the limit. EXCEPTION TO RULE 1. If you have a previously started racer from a previous running of the Cannonball (SA or MCM) 50% complete or less, they are eligible to run this year as long as they meet the theme requirement. All of our previous runs are still available on either of the two forums. If you are going to do this, please be certain it was involved in a previous run. We will continue to implement this rule each year, as the goal of this CBP was always to get people building and finishing models. B. Before starting please post a photo of your kit(s) or pile o’ parts. No limitation on type of vehicle or technology used. C. If for any reason you plan a build and wish to declare another entry in place of, you may do so at any time prior to the 48hrs. deadline. (please see important dates below) D. Above all, have fun! That’s it for rules. The following is just FYI: -You may start a separate build thread for your build if you wish, but please keep the CBP thread updated. -Build time begins on January 1st, 2023, local time and ends at 11:59PM on December 1st, 2023, local time. That’s a total of eleven months! -After the finish, we will create a poll and we’ll have the “race”, a public vote. -The finished builds thread will begin on November 14th so that you may post your completed vehicles. The final voting poll will based from this thread. Good quality photos are essential to best showcase your hard work. No one has won this with poor photos in poor lighting. -You may build as many models as you wish for this CBP, but only one can be entered in the finished builds thread and public voting poll prior to December 3rd. -You can enter this CBP at any time up to 48 hours before the end date of December 1st. I would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Disconovaman for allowing me the privilege of moderating this year’s event! I’m truly excited for this year’s run and hope that everyone is as well! Important Dates: 2023 January 1st, 12:00am: Official build start of the 2023 Cannonball Run November 14th, 12:00am: Finished build thread opens November 29th, 11:59pm: Last day to enter the CBR build December 1st, 11:59pm: Official build end December 3rd, 12:00am: Polling to elect a winner opens December 16th, 11.59pm: Polling closes December 17th: 2023 Winner announced With all that being said, it’s time for all you scofflaws to take this year’s run and make it your own!

2023 Cannonball Run Theme Voting Poll
White Rabbit replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
The theme runoff has come to a conclusion and the winning theme for the 2023 Cannonball Run is... ...Run-What-You-Brung! Thank you to everyone who voted, both in the initial theme poll and the runoff! It was very close this year as all the suggestions were excellent, however, Run-What-You-Brung is the official winner by two votes! This is going to truly be an exciting theme that has something for everyone as, in a way, encompasses almost all the other themes. It will allow the builder a large scope of building possibilities; from box/replica stock to full custom. I do believe, however, that a clear definition of the theme and some guidelines should be employed to ensure that the builds stay within the spirit of the Cannonball. This will all be on the official build thread's main page. This weekend, I'll be posting the official build thread for the '23 CBR. So, definitely get your ideas flowing and I look forward to the great builds that are to come! -
The 2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Build Thread
White Rabbit replied to disconovaman's topic in Community Builds
Hello Cannonballers! I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude to Anthony (disconovaman) for his kind words and confidence in me and for allowing me the opportunity to oversee next year's Cannonball Run! As we can all agree, he has done an excellent job and has set the standard for the events to come! It truly is a privilege to moderate the CBR and I will do my best to ensure that next year's run will be of the quality and integrity that has come to be expected. As for me, I've always been passionate about automobiles and the Cannonball. Since I was in grade school, my favorite movie had always been the Cannonball Run. As I grew and came to find that the CBR was an actual race, I absolutely fell in love with it! I've read Brock Yates' Cannonball! book several times and am always envious of the grand adventure he and his fellow scofflaws embarked on; truly an amazing feat! Model-building too has been a hobby of mine since as far back as I can remember and I have more love for it now than ever. It really is a satisfying hobby that challenges and rewards the builder! Furthermore, I would like to thank the Modelcarsmag forum members for welcoming me into this fantastic community of passionate builders and their ever-inspiring models! I look forward to the 2023 Cannonball Run and the amazing builds that are yet to come! I hope everyone will be as inspired as I am to participate and contribute to what is sure to be a memorable event! -
2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Voting Poll
White Rabbit replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
Hello everyone, It seems that the initial security settings that I had on the survey allowed for multiple votes, which was skewing the results. However, I seem to have corrected this issue with heightened security on the survey. Therefore, even if multiple votes are cast, only one will be counted. Below is the updated poll. I appreciate your patience and understanding, but we do have an accurate poll. Reminder: there is still time until December 16th, 11:59pm (Eastern US time) to cast your vote for your favorite build. -
2023 Cannonball Run Theme Voting Poll
White Rabbit replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
Hello all, So, this has been my first time using SuperSurvey to create a poll and it has very much been a learning curve. I've been working on the security of the survey to ensure that multiple votes are not counted. I did notice that there seemed to be multiple votes cast. I increased the security to "Heavy" and it now seems to have dismissed multiple votes. Therefore, we now have an accurate view of the poll for the 2023 theme runoff and for the YOB contest. The original theme poll remained unchanged. I will also post the updated results in their respective topics. I appreciate your patience during this process, but the multiple vote issue seems to be solved; that is, even if multiple votes are cast, only one will be counted. -

The polling has closed and we have a tie between Wagons and Run-What-You-Brung. To decide the final theme, a runoff poll will be held; open from now until Wednesday, December 7th 11:59pm (Eastern US time). Incidentally, the final results are the same as the above post. Vote here: Runoff Poll -

Thank you for the link! I would also like to recommend the Cannonball book by Brock Yates. It's a great read from the perspective of the participants and you get a good idea of what an incredible event the CBR really was. Also, regarding the types of vehicles in the real Cannonball: Mr. Yates' impetus for the race was to prove that skilled drivers piloting high quality vehicles could safely traverse the nation's highways at high speeds, thereby, removing the need for the 55mph speed limit at the time. The important point here with regards to the vehicles is that they should be solid performance vehicles that are capable of safe, high-speed travel. The winners of the 1970s Cannonballs were: Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, Cadillac Coupe de Ville, Ferrari Dino and Jaguar XJS -

Hello all! Just a reminder that voting closes at midnight, December 5th; so there's still time to get your vote in. In fact, we now have a tie for first: Wagons and Run-What-You-Brung. In the event of a tie, we'll have brief runoff between the tied themes. -
2023 Cannonball Run Theme Voting Poll
White Rabbit replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
My interpretation of the run-what-you-brung theme is effectively open to all street-legal vehicles. The real Cannonball is indeed a race what-you-have type of event, but for our purposes, some structure would have to be built in to ensure that the builds stay within the spirit of the CBR. These could be some guidelines: street-legal vehicle (that is, one that could be registered with the DMV), vehicle-based engines (piston, rotary, hybrid, electric, etc. So nothing fantastic like a nuclear-powered car. If it's been in a production vehicle, it should be eligible.), real-vehicle based model (so the vehicle should be based on a real vehicle in kit form. Of course, modifications are always welcome; everything from box-stock to wild custom) and, as stated above, keeping with the spirit of the Cannonball. I encourage other's thoughts and guidelines on this potential theme. -

Welcome Cannonballers! We've reached the Portofino Inn and it's now time to decide who wins this year's Cannonball Year of Birth! 1. 2022 Completed Builds Review this year's completed builds. Then... 2. Vote Here Select your favorite build I've attempted to block multiple votes, however, I'm not sure that it has worked. Therefore, please limit your votes to only one per person. The poll will be open now through December 16th which should give everyone enough time to vote.

Hello fellow Cannonballers! The time has come to vote on next year's Cannonball Run theme. We began with twenty three excellent theme suggestions. Based on everyone's top three lists, the themes have been narrowed to seven. Below is a link to the voting poll. This is my first attempt at polling, so I appreciate your patience. Hopefully, all goes smoothly. The poll is set-up to allow one vote per person (based on their email/login). However, we'll also use the honor system. The poll should be open from midnight December 2nd to midnight December 5th. This should give everyone plenty of time to vote. Any suggestions and opinions are always welcome. https://take.supersurvey.com/QK8BAWN5F

2023 Cannonball Run Build Theme Suggestions
White Rabbit replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
Top three for me would be: 1. Mid-engine 2. Run-what-you-brung 3. Wagons Thus far, based on everyone's top-three lists, we've eliminated eleven themes; leaving twelve. As for the survey, if the themes that have been chosen only once (as per the lists) are eliminated, then the choices drop to seven. The survey, therefore, would be based on those seven. Those seven are, in no particular order: Run-what-you-brung, moonshine, mid-engine, pro-street, phantomball, pick-up trucks and wagons. Though, this list may be added to depending on posts made between today and tomorrow. I'm working on setting up the survey through last year's site of Supersurvey. I was thinking to have the survey begin December 2nd (as the 2022 CBR ends on the 1st) and run through December 5th. That allows for four days of voting. To prevent multiple votes, an email will be required. Though, I'm not sure how everyone feels about this. Otherwise, we could simply have the survey on the honor-system. In the event of a tie, a run-off survey would be run. Let me know what you all think as this is the first time I'm doing this and any input would be appreciated. -

Good idea. Perhaps, we can post our lists until the end of the month, November 30th. At that point, a poll can be issued and voting can begin. -
2023 Cannonball Run Build Theme Suggestions
White Rabbit replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
LL3 is correct. The theme's only requirement is that the vehicle be mid-engined. How the vehicle becomes mid-engined is up to the builder. This leaves a large scope of possibilities for the builder: everything from a box-stock build of a pre-existing mid-engined vehicle (Lamborghini, Ferrari, Toyota MR2, Lotus, etc.), to full custom builds where the engine is relocated from its original position to a mid-ship layout. -
