AMT 51 Chevy Bel Air - build start and a question
eran_k replied to eran_k's topic in WIP: Model Cars
had a little mishap with paint today, i had a jar of Mr. Hobby "wine red" which in the jar looked kind of deep red maroon, which was the color i wanted. today i started spraying it and it's much more transparent "pinkish" then i wanted. i don't have any other color at the moment so i used it but not sure i'l leave it like this this is on gray primer, i tried on a black primed piece of plastic but it was just invisible , so dark primer is not the solution. -

AMT 51 Chevy Bel Air - build start and a question
eran_k replied to eran_k's topic in WIP: Model Cars
trying to keep it simple but there were couple of things i couldn't just let go. so spent some time sanding off the mold lines and cleaning up parts from flash. built and painted the motor , frame, rear & front suspension. rest of the body parts including the body shell are now in light gray primer and drying NOBLNG - i have seen your thread about fixing the hood, excellent work but it's beyond my care level for this kit. hope it will still look ok sitting in the display cabinet. for color I'm thinking wine red (mr Color) body and cream white roof, but i might change my mind. -
from time to time i need to take a brake from the more involved builds and do something simple, so decide to build the 51 Bel Air. from reading around i know the kit has it's flaws but i don't really mind. so started looking at the instruction and test fitting the frame and immediately ran into an issue. there are front and rear "splash pans" in the kit, and while i figured out how the rear one should be installed an a little confused regarding the front one. is it suppose to be part of the frame or glued to bellow the body? if it's glued to the frame, how does it attaches? not very clear from the instructions and there are no pins or any clear locating tabs or guides. is it just glued in front of the frame front "crossmember"? does it need to be flush with the top or the bottom of that crossmember? i mocked it up does it look correct? i found one thread on this forum where it looks like this: so its kinda matches my mockup, but i also seen threads where the splash pans were attached to the body and not the frame... any advice would be welcomed

Thanks ! Sand rails (they do have other names e.g. Sand ladders) are devices to help get the vehicle out of deep sand or other difficult terrain , by providing something for the tires to have some grip. they've been in use for eons https://www.toughtoys.com.au/4wd-recovery/sand-tracks-sand-ladders-and-maxtrax-alternatives/#:~:text=Steel and aluminium Sand Ladders, through soft and muddy ground.

Although not 100% Accurate as the 109 was only used as a support vehicle for the Camel Trophy, i decided to build a "What If" version, simply because the revell Land Rover is available and is quite good kit. The build started with the engine and chassis, built box stock. the seats and rear benches and few other parts were also assembled and painted semi gloss black or other shades of black for some variation. cant progress with the body as I'm waiting for the "Sandglow" paint to arrive from Gravity paints of spain, so i designed and printed some accessories for the build First, a roof rack Next, stuff to put on the roof rack, and headlight guards still need to print a winch, and maybe few more bits and pieces To be Continued...

Land Rover Series III
eran_k replied to Technics's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
cool!, Working on the same model now, but going to build it as a camel trophy rig (although i know series III were never actually in the camel trophy) -
what would be a good color choice (in Tamiya or mr hobby) to build it box stock? chat gpt says XF-57 for the beige and XF-10 for the brown, but im not sure how accurate that will be

Finished this 39 Chevy gasser today, as usual i used some 3D printed parts for the gasser conversion. some are Scale speed garage item and some are my own design. it's my first gasser model and also first time i try to print my own decals, they are a bit on the thick side, but i didn't know how they would react to decal setting solution so i left them like this. all in all I'm quit pleased with the results.

Absolutely fantastic work!, i think i went over this thread 2-3 time to "take it all in" I'm interested in your decal technique, can you explain it a bit? if i understand correctly, you print an black outline text on a Clear sheet, then fill in the lettering with paint or gold leaf, and apply another clear decal with the outline printed in black? i need to make decals for my gasser project and looking for ideas. i printed them on paper just for mockup Thanks

I printed some mock up decals i made in inkscape, now to see if 'll be able to make them with decal paper...any tips? i'll also use some sponsor decals i got from other kits here and there

Comparison between Tamiya and Rustoleum
eran_k replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
how about the "higher" quality graffiti sprays like MNT 84 or Montana gold, will they be better than rustoleum? just wondering because where i live i cant get Tamiya sprays but cant get those graffiti spryas and they have a wide color selection -
few more touch ups and shell be done, mostly making labels or trying to find some in the parts box. the tail lights were missing from the box so i need to what to do about thats
