GM on the critical list
58 Impala replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hate to see the big 3 in such dire straits, but that is a result of three things. 1.) The unions are bleeding the car companies dry (average wages are between $45 to $75 an hour) plus all the benefits and all the retired workers. 2.)The arogance and corporate greed. 3.) And the last reason is just plain simple, they build junk. They design some good looking cars (Corvette,Camaro,Mustang,Charger,Challenger etc.) but the quality and fit and finish of the cars are junk. Now before anyone goes off on me, I have owned Chevys, Fords, Buicks. I have also owned VW's,Audi,Honda,Nissan. The older American cars I've owned were great (2 Impalas 65&71, 69 Chevelle), but the newer ones have all had problems (trim, mechanical, paint, rust). My dad and my grandfather were loyal Chevy owners. Back in the 50's and the 60's we built good looking durable cars, and there was severe brand loyalty. When you went to go buy a new car you usually went back with same brand because you had good luck and alot of servicable miles with little or no problems. Today such a thing is non exsistant. I currently drive a 97 Crown Vic, mechanically it has been a pretty good car, but it had a couple of poor design flaws that were very expensive to fix. It has 105,000 miles on it and I hope it gives me a few more servicable miles. But the several imports I have owned have given me few if any problems. The quality of design and build, also the attention to detail have been great. We have the ability to design and build cars of equal or better quality, but we lost our way somewhere. I think the American car companies have gone from confidence to arrogance, and I think this going to be the reason for their demise. -
Having Paint issues, need some advice...
58 Impala replied to LVZ2881's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I paint 1:1 cars for a living, looks to me like the primer didn't stick for some reason. Maybe the area was contaminated by something. Your best bet would be to lightly sand with 600 grit or finer as well as clean the whole body. -
What a suprise, I received issue #134 in the mail on Saturday and came home from work today to find issue #135 in my mailbox I have to compliment Gregg and Harry, the magazine is looking better than ever. The layout and graphics are spot on, and so are the articles. I'm looking foward to 12 issues a year, I renewed my subscription several months ago and it isn't due till the end of next year. But I have all the intentions of renewing my sub yet again at that time. I hope MCM stays around for a long time.

Brazilian Grand Prix Tomorrow...
58 Impala replied to Len Colombo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If Massa wins (which I hope he does) Wonderboy has to finish 5th or better. Can you say Deja Vu? I seem to remember he was in this same exact situation last year and his ego (or stupidity) got the best of him. Well, we will see what happens. I like Massa, he deserves to win the championship. -
HobbyTown Model shows...
58 Impala replied to LVZ2881's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Congratulations on your contest wins. It's nice encouragement for younger modelers to keep bulding. Our Hobbytown show had a very dismal turn out, unlike last year which was pretty good. -
I'm 51, my dad started me building car models when I was 7 or 8. I won't ever give it up, my eyes too went bad at about 40 so I just use more and more magnification . My son (20) also builds when he's not busy with college studies. My wife is pretty tolerant of our hobby, but doesn't understand my 300 plus stash of kits. My son and I belong to a great car model club with a bunch of great guys. The hobby is all good as long as all of us out here regardless of age keep on building.

Wow, that's definitely a Killer Caddy. Very nice job.
-
I hope they stay with a V8 configuration. I like the sound of all 8 screaming at 10,000rpm.
-
Hey Charlie. Killer job so far. Are you coming to the next club meeting? The '41 is still progressing sloooowly!

Singapore Grand Prix
58 Impala replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, I thought Hamilton was going to try and pass Niko but he played it smart and settled for the 6pts. -

Zoom Zoom, you wouldn't happen to be a Hammi fan would you? He did make a good come back from a poor pitstop. Oh well, such are the breaks in racing. On to Japan! -

Ferrari needs to get rid of that ###### electronic pit paddle!! That's the second time that stupid thing has caused a problem. It caused them to lose the race. -
Real nice job. I'm a big Schumi fan, I have almost all his champiomship cars in kit form. The Tamiya kits are the best. I bought some aftermarket decals that included the Marlboro logos, they are a higher quality decal.

Lewis Hamilton's Verdict in!

Now that was racing! It took real gonads to drive like that. -

You're right, Michael has done a great job mentoring Massa. I hope it's dry for the night race, it ought to be awesome under the lights. -

I hope Massa gets the jump on Hamilton this weekend and grabs some more points. Massa has proved himself as good driver, I think he deserves the championship. -

I have my opinions about different drivers. But I love a good clean race no matter who wins (well almost). I'm a big racing fan and love F1. The speeds, technology, and driver skill are awesome. -
Lewis Hamilton's Verdict in!

Hamilton can say what ever he wants, Massa, Vettel, and Kubica have proved they can out drive him. As for the best in the world, I have two words for him-SCHUMACHER,SENNA. I know most F1 drivers are primadonas, but he's just an arrogant little SOB. Just my 2 cents. -
If I'm not mistaken wasn't that car referred to as the "Birdcage" Maserati? Anyway, beautiful job! Nice clean detail.

I did a nice checker floor for my diorama. I used Excel on the computer and played around with the pixel size until I got as close to 1/2"x1/2" checkered pattern. Once I printed a couple of test copies, I put some gloss photo paper in my printer and it came out great. I flattened it in a book and then took some craft adhesive spray and laid it down. It came out perfect.

It was a great race, I love Spa. Listening to those cars going through Eau Rouge and stay at 19000 rpm for 23 seconds. AWESOME! The end of the race was a bit catastrophic. I agree that Kimi has seemed to have lost the spark. But Massa has it, I think he has a good chance of winning the champiomship. Hamiliton is just plain arrogant, his and Alonso's egos cost them both the champiomship last year. As for the best driver no one can hold a candle to Schumi, I used to love watching that guy drive.

New place to buy models
58 Impala replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Go to www.rocketfin.com and click on model car links. There you'll find a list of every model, accesory, resin part, photo etch, etc. You'll also find several good distributors of current and out of production kits. -
Definitely some nice work!
