  1. Hey, Paul, Thanks! I had to chuckle a bit when I read your reply because even though I keep sending 'em out new kits just seem to follow me home whenever I visit the LHS Last time I went, my wife was with me and SHE suggested we take the Revell Stone, Woods & Cook Willys' Drag Racer (Black Willys' on the box) home because it was CUTE!! Gotta LOVE that woman!! Joe
  2. For those interested in helping out our troops: I've donated a large amount of models to those stationed in Iraq via the local VFW. Personally it would have been quite costly for me to send out all those models but the VFW boxes them up in USPS Priority boxes, takes care of the Customs paperwork and picks up the postage. All one has to do is get them to their local VFW post and state where they want them shipped. I had read about the hobby clubs in Iraq so most went to those troops although I was told that some were shipped to VA hospitals too which is all right by me. It's a win-win for everyone. In my case I had too many models and not enough breath left in me to finish them all so I was real pleased to find good "homes" for them. Give it some thought Thanks. Joe
  3. WOWWW!!! Steve, I haven't seen one of those '68 T-Bird Hardtop models since I built one back then to go with my '66 T-Bird CV. At the time it was quite the ride... Thanks for the memory trip!
  4. Most recent buys, all at the LHS, include the Model King/Lindberg Vintage Dirt Modifieds (two models in the box!), the Model King/Amt Ertl Chevy II Super Boss Funny Car (Twister), Revell X-15 Experimental Aircraft, and the Revell Stone,Woods & Cook Willys Drag Racer. My wife picked out the Willys 'cause she thought it was "cute"
  5. Another idea, one that I have personally used, is to take extra or unwanted modeling items to your local VFW and donate the items to our troops abroad. I sent a lot of my models to our troops in Iraq. Our local VFW takes care of the shipping, paperwork, and postage. Another thing I have done is take clean, sealed, kits and put them in the Toys For Tots boxes at Christmas time. A couple of ways that are much better than just tossing the items in the landfill.
  6. I was about 10 years old (1960) when I built my first model. Was a rubber band flying aircraft that I flew in a park, a stick and tissue type. When I was 12 my grandfather took me with him to the IGA grocery store in Harbor Springs, MI. The store carried plastic models and he let me pick out one to build. Was an AMT '62 Comet. WOW!! Built it on the kitchen table with my Grandpa and brush painted it with Blue enamal paint. I'm sure it was a glue bomb because I remember using every single extra piece in the kit that could be stuck on that model. ....but, Oh how I loved that first car I built.
  7. Thanks! Don't have the Pro '71 Nova but I do have the Revell '56 kit and won't be needing the Powerglide tranny for that particular build. Looks like I have a couple of nice options for the '62 Impala SS project. Happy building!
  8. Thanks folks!! I've got a '53 Corvette around here somewhere and I'll check that out (should have thought about that but didn't give a 2 speed tranny in a Corvette any thought ). Also, for those interested: Just checked this topic on the Scale Auto forum and was advised that Competition Resins has a copy of the aluminum GM Powerglide Transmission available. Looks nice and clean too. You might want to take a look.
  9. Am starting to build a model of my first car, a 1962 Impala SS with a 283 and 2 Speed Powerglide transmission. Was Ermine White with the red bucket seat interior. Don't know what happened to the 1:1 after trading her for a....... , you don't want to know. Am using a AMT '62 convertible kit and the roof from the AMT '63 Chevy Impala kit. Any help in locating the proper tranny (kit or after market source) is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
