  1. Welcome, Ed! Have fun and don't be bashful about questions and having a good time. ...eh, 62SS....I had one of those in 1:1 scale in the sixties. Was Ermine White with the red bucket/consol interior. Always loved that style and have kicked myself in the behind me area many times for selling that great car! (WHY did I DO that..... ?) Happy building! Joe
  2. Hi, grimreaper. You may want to check with the Toy House in Jackson for info on model clubs. I don't know the name of the street but it was downtown. Lived in the Jackson/Hanover-Horton area for about 17 years and flew R/C planes alot. Don't remember any plastic club but they (the Toy House staff) should be able to point you in the right direction. Hope this helps. Happy building! Joe
  3. Hey, JAFFA, just get you an old model box, curve up one end, slap some bumpers and lights on the box, X-acto out some holes...er, windows, get a paint crayon and do a big "W" on it and "presto". Just think of all the money you'd save on styrene.... Build on!!
  4. ...come to life?! I'd hope not 'cause that would be weal scarewy!! Anyhow, it might be a dead idea in the long run..might have to just let it rest. I know..perish the thought!! Don't kick the bucket now, Kevin...keep on working on that there funeral wagon of yours and show us some pics young man!!
  5. Can't have one, Kevin....you already have a Horse, er...Hearse to drive...
  6. Looking forward to your article, Terrry!! How about a regular column again? You can "mix-it-up" ifin ya get tired of one type of model subject but the main idea here...WRITE ON!! (I like that rusted '32 in the background, too.)
  7. $4 per gallon gas is NOTHING compared to the $20 per gallon it cost me for R/C model airplane fuel! Now THAT"s getting up there!! I usually combine stops and consolidate my running around when we go into town. One vehicle gets 35 MPG and the other 18 MPG...guess which one goes to town on a regular basis? It certainly requires some re-thinking when long trips to the various model shows are at stake. Anyone remember when gas was 20 cents a gallon? Heck, back then I was lucky to afford two gallons at a time so I guess it's all in how you look at it.... Joe
  8. This would make a great re-pop, in this original form, for MCM printed at full size. Great for beginners and those seeking a bit of nostalgic memories. Thanks for putting this up for us! Joe
  9. Good ideas, Mono,...having thought of those I haven't located either kit. Have to be careful not to buy a kit like those mentioned just for the engine for the '30 project.
  10. Thanks for the ideas Zeb and Phil! Zeb, I think you're right in the small difference in scale size and in my eyes this Monogram '30 model looks closer to 1/25 anyway. I'm going to stick some of my engine stash in and see what it looks like. Leadsled had a good idea with the new Revell '32 Sedan engines..I've got the kit and will check that out. Phil, I've seen that '34 Ford Amigo Pack offering somewhere around this area...will see if I can track it down and give it a look. BTW, where abouts in WV are you? My wife is from the Lost Creek/Clarksburg area and we lived there for a number of years when first married. I really like the people from West Virginia!! (Could do without the ramps in the Spring though )
  11. Hi guys! Thanks for your great ideas. The engines you have suggested are listed as 1/25 scale rather than the 1/24 scale of the old Monogram kit. Both of your suggestions were, in fact, my first choices when considering this build. Not sure if these two choices would appear too small in the old Monogram '30 model. Any thoughts on this?
  12. Thanks John! Going to Michaels and the LHS tomarrow so I'll look for the kits you mentioned. I appreciate your help on this.
  13. Thanks zebm1..I appreciate your looking! I used to have "stacks" (about 1100 models) but after sending about half to Iraq and giving away a bunch to Toys for Tots and friends...well, wouldn't you just know that when I need that "certain" 1/24 scale model for parts it's not on the shelf ; oh well, it's a shame...I might have to go to the LHS.....again...
  14. I have to admit that originally I really looked forward to visiting and posting on SA forum. Went there most every day...sometimes multiple times per day. Noticed it going downhill though and when they changed to the new forum format my enthusiasm went downhill with it. Don't think I've posted there since it changed. The new format is not user friendly, does not appeal to my visual senses, and I don't care for the "in your face ads". As for JH and his attitude...if he bites the hand that feeds him then I, for one, will decide to not bring the "feed bucket". When my current SA subscription runs out I'll not be going that route anymore. If there's something of real interest in the mag I can pick it up at the LHS (an excuse to check out the new models ...). These forums should be about having fun and enjoying the comradre of fellow modelers...and as far as I'm concerned this Model Cars forum is where the real fun is! Happy building!!
  15. I'm rebuilding an old, original, 1960's kit Monogram 1930 four-door wagon into a 2-door delivery with a street rod look. Tubbed rear fenders, slight nose down stance, most of the lower raised "wood" pieces scraped off the sides and back to leave a two-line horizontal belt and the opened areas will be filled with real wood veneer. The original model, built by another, was in really rough shape without an engine. Seeing as this is a 1/24 scale model I'm open to suggestions for a nice "mild" Street Rod/Cruiser type Ford engine for this build. All of my spare engines are 1/25 scale. I know the kit has been recently re-issued but I'm seeking something a bit different. Anyone know of a readily available kit in 1/24 scale that has two engine options (so I can still build the new kit) that would work with this build? Many thanks for your thoughts! Joe
  16. ...I like to Eat fishies...Perch and Walleye...and more Perch...and...
  17. Went up again in UP NORTH Michigan...$3.99 AND 9/10 per gallon regular.... and it's not even Memorial weekend yet!!
  18. With the price of Revell kits today I only buy them at Michael's with their 40% or 50% off coupons.
  19. Price went up 21 cents yesterday to 3.90/gallon for regular unleaded in Up North Michigan.
  20. When living in Denver during the early eighties my wife, two young daughters, and I left the city on 4 July in our CJ-7. Was very warm so we had shorts and t-shirts on and the doors off the Jeep. Had a great trip into Estes State Park and when we drove to the top it was snowing a bit and we had a snowball romp with everyone until we got too cold to enjoy the fun. Simply drove back down the "hill" and warmed up again. I sure did love the scenery when driving in the mountains!
  21. Well, I for one really liked my new 1971 VW Super Beetle (Bright Red) but I find this Japanese kit art offensive in and of itself. I would not build it , have it on my stash shelf, or give/sell it to anyone. I'd burn it.
  22. Bluesman, you really hit a chord with me in your comments.
  23. Congratulations to both of you, Harold and Bob, for not giving up on your studies.
  24. I've found over the years that I can achieve a bit of extra detail and effect without the higher PE/resin costs. Takes a bit of imagination and time/patience but it works for me. As an example: on a recent 1:48 scale Corsair F4U-1D I wanted to "spruce up the cockpit" but did not want to pay the high photoetched price. Ended up adding about ten extra details that really enhanced the "office area" with nothing more than tiny bits of wire, wire insulation, tiny solder, and .010 inch thick styrene. Same with my car models: bead wire, small diameter insulation, guitar string, etc. As Bluesman Mark said, paint and sandpaper are a given. Nothing special in the way of paints, just LHS or hardware items. This gets me where I want to go and I'm a happy camper...er, modeler...with more money left over to entice those newborn model puppies from the hobby shop to follow me home !
