  1. khart, that is VERY nice!! Way cool! ..and to think, I just spent about 3 months locating parts and cleaning up an old original black plastic glue-bomb build of that chopped rod so I could build it...and along comes...Oh well, now I'll get to build two versions. LOVE THAT BOX ART!! Joe
  2. Glad to see you back at it, Chris! Build on.... Joe
  3. Every once in a while something occurs that makes one feel good. Having placed a request for an old engine in the Wanted section I was contacted by Ed Shaver via PM and told he would look for the parts. Ed spent his own time and energy trying to locate the engine parts and kept me informed via PM all along the way. Alas he didn't have all the parts (though I did locate the engine locally) but Ed even offered to send what parts he had via mail for free. That was a VERY nice offer to say the least. Though I told him to keep those extra parts in case someone else was looking I feel Ed did his best to help out. I feel I have made a friend in this transaction and that is much more important than model parts anyday! Thanks again Ed for keeping in touch and really letting me know you cared enough about the request to give of your time in searching for those parts. Joe
  4. YES! YES! YES! WOO-HOOOOO!! And in white plastic...things are looking up. Joe
  5. GREAT start on those engines!! I'll be following along and watching this build. Joe
  6. Chuck....can I ah..use that "smoosh" word once in awhile.... Joe
  7. Smokey, '32 fender unit is wrapped and boxed; will go out tomorrow UPS. Good building to you. Joe
  8. This is a model kit of the first "Big-Rig" I drove over the road back in '87; had a tanker behind 'er. Actually I liked the 'ole gal. Drove solidly and shifted real easy like. Might have to get this kit for old times sake and build a memory... Joe
  9. Smokey, I have a two wheel well fender unit from an early '60's AMT Ford kit (5-window I think) that came from another's built model. It's unpainted, in nice condition, though does have a bit of glue on it that can be sanded off. It is very servicable and the bumper mounts are intact. Haven't found the two wheel standoffs yet but I'm looking. If you can use it I'll send it to you; PM your addy and I'll put it in the mail. Joe Edit: just found two new wheel holders in my stash (they still have the flash on 'em ) if they are needed for your project.
  10. That is looking sweet!! Only thing I can offer is maybe lower the bottom of the rear window opening a tad...say split the distance between the lower rear window edge and the trunk opening line. Would offer a more realistic window opening from the drivers view and not be a "mailslot". Just my 2 cents worth Joe
  11. This is really sad and you and your family are in my prayers. Find strength in the fact that you are able to reach out and share this time of grief with your friends here on this forum. Joe
  12. Thanks for the Michaels coupons! FYI: went into Michaels last week and bought flocking that wasn't Martha Stewart brand. It's called fuzzy fun flock and says Stampendous impressions every time on the container. Each container has five vials of flocking. There was four different 5-vial containers with different colors available. Each 5-vial container was $8.99. Check it out, guys, I've got enough flocking now for LOTS of projects and it looks like these colors can be mixed for custom color combinations, too. Joe
  13. old hermit...those are just way too cool!! And, I just get a BIG kick out of that avatar of yours; where did that come from? Joe
  14. Looks good like that, Mike. Different yet tastful without looking "tight". Joe
  15. GREGG!!!!!!! This one belongs in MCM; Farmboy, you've got a great build going...made me dig out my '51 kit (AMT T284) and find that '50 Ford front end. Got 'em on the workbench now. Thanks for all the pics, too. Joe P.S. Had a '52 Chevy Deluxe 4-door in high school, black on the bottom and light green on top with red plaid seat covers inside. I loved driving that 'ole car around! It was stolen in 1969 and I never saw it again....man....
  16. Those 40% off coupons sure do help and yes I check out the paper for them. Michaels used to have some of those Sunday ads in the store on Monday morning but they stopped doing that here. Revell kits are the store offerings but with the new kits coming out, and the use of the coupon, it works out nice. I usually purchase my AMT(Round 2) kits from Tower Hobbies whenever I order R/C items. Pricing is much better than at the LHS for those kits and other brand kits as well. For example: Just bought the Czeck Model Bamboo Bomber (Sky King Songbird) and saved $15 over the LHS price...plus I had free shipping and no 6% sales tax. A real good deal! Joe
  17. Got over here and checked out your build thread...GREAT work! Everyone's making this a good read and the many pics are a surefire help. I'll be following along on this one! Love those rats... Joe
  18. Man, I hate it when I...muck up like that!!!! I had both the Revell '32 Sedan and the Revell '32 5-window out and was looking at the sedan kit parts, glanced at the new '32 5-window box and thought about that MCM '40 Ford Street Rod article Tim Boyd wrote. Thanks for setting me straight...and doing it in a nice way, my friend. Just goes to show that at 60 I can't be thinking about three things at once ;^) Joe
  19. Can anyone tell me if the flattie in this kit is the same one that was offered in Revells '40 Ford Conv. Street Rod? I don't have the '40 Ford kit to compare. Thanks. Joe
  20. Yepper, Ed, I've been aware of the "sectioned/chopped" AMT look for many years. Guess what I was saying is that until I actually compared the two 5-window bodies today (AMT and Revell) I didn't realize just how much the difference really is. First thing that came to my mind was to do the rod look with the AMT body 'cause I like it that way and do a nice stock looker with the Revell body. Anyway...Revell has a true winner with this kit. Just went back over the kit trees and I am impressed with how clean they are. Joe
  21. Just picked up the Revell '32 Ford 5-Window Coupe at Michaels with the 40% off coupon (knocked $10.00 off price) and this is one VERY NICE kit! The white molded plastic parts look clean and there is very little flash on anything. Parts are all bagged. Three chrome trees with lots of goodies, a real cool decal sheet and 4 soft rubber tires (which should have been bagged..I placed 'em in a snack baggie). It's interesting to note that this kit is 1/25 as is the old AMT kit but the roof area and side surface area are larger. I compared the two bodies and they match at the lower rear and cowl width. This is going to be one real nice kit to build. Joe
  22. The AMT '62 Buick and the January MCM. Oh....and some R/C model airplane stuff...;^) Joe
  23. Picked up my '62 Buick kit today...what a neat box. Everything is nicely sealed up in clear bags and that's good. Love that little collector mini-box! A bit more flash on parts than I had expected but nothing that can't be taken care of quickly so that's good. Two of my tires had the narrow whitewall misprinted (not registered correctly on the tire)...that's not good. I can use the new engine in my original issue '60 Buick HT (engine in bad shape due to original builder using WAY too much glue during assembly) and put the '66 AMT Buick engine in this '62 Buick so that's GREAT! All in all a great trip back to memory lane with this kit. Joe P.S. Thanks to Round 2 for the KAT sticker!! Haven't seen a good copy of that sticker in a long time. It's going on my R/C airplane flightbox!!
  24. Well, Mark, what would have been so hard about adding that extra tranny and making the extra engine parts useful in that kit? John G. indicated he and Tom wanted to make their company a standout in the model kit business...it's things like putting all the parts in one box to make what is in that box useful to the modeler that will and can make a real difference. Plain and simple. In the case of the DD kit, those extra parts are a welcome and very nice addition to the kit offering, to be sure, but why not make those parts available to those not wishing to purchase that large tin box. I'd prefer all the parts in a regular cardborad modeling box and I'd bet a large number of others would too. Nevertheless, what Round2 is offering is a great step in the right direction and I need my beaten "horse" to get around with...and so I can ride it down to the LHS and pick up one of those DD kits...;^) Joe
