Scale I Build

Found 19 results

  1. Hello all. I went for a stroll around a hobby shop and found the AMT White-Freightliner kit. Being a transformers fan I knew immediately I wanted to make it an Optimus Prime look-a-like. The kit isn't any exact Prime alt mode so I hope to be blending aspects from all. I know other people have already done this based on my research and it was great to get inspiration! Right next to it just so happened to be a 1/25 scale trailer too! This solidified the idea. I hope to use polystyrene sheets to fill in the ridges along the side in the shape of his iconic stripe, in theory to make it smooth all the way along just like the original toy.
  2. Howdy! This year I hope to complete a build off. I’ve built this kit before, but was not pleased with the results. I forgot how poor the instructions are at times. And the parts aren’t very crisp and have heavy flash. BUT, not going to let that stop me. So without further ado… Here is the kit in question. It’s a good challenge. I plan on building the day cab dual drive version. I’ll probably weather the kit but not too heavily. Below I’ll detail what I completed today. Today I only accomplished getting a portion of the frame cleaned up and assembled. Lots of sanding, test fitting, clamping, and filing just to get to this point. But it’s a straight frame at least! Good luck to everyone! I’m excited to see the end results!
  3. Well it is finally done. Started in Sept '19 finished Apr '20. Started with a vision and it turned out better than I had hoped. Comments welcome.
  4. I have a few questions about the AMT White Freightliner cabovers (DD with sleeper) 1. What year of Freightliner is the kit based off of? What confuses me is the steps. Most early 70s Freightliner cabovers I've seen just have a looped strap for a step under the door and behind the front wheels. It appears that 1975 the style of steps on the kit came out, but if I remember correctly White Freightliner split and just became Freightliner. 2. How common was the Detroit 8v71T in Freightliner cabovers? I have a resin 8v71T/8v92 that has been sitting around for a while that I want to use in place of the stock Cummins. If anyone can help, it will be greatly appreciated. Top picture is a 1975, bottom picture is a 1970. Notice the difference in the steps leading into the door.
  5. I have surprised myself in that I completed no cars this year. I did get two big rigs and my diorama start to finish (except for lights).
  6. I do not want to say this was an easy build. It had it's moments when stuff did not want to fit correct. I used the flame decals from an old t-bucket kit I had laying around. I also created a custom exhaust.
  7. I bought (2) White Freightliner 75th Anniversary COE kits. The stock options are Day cab single drive (SD) and Sleeper cab dual drive (DD). I have chosen neither of these. I am building one as a Day cab DD and the other as a Sleeper cab triple drive. It has been slow going but I try to work on them a little bit most every day. I have painted the stripe (under) color on the cab and masked it off in preparation for the black top coat. I researched photos of the proper engine colorings but it was too boring so I went artistic on it. I modified the frame to keep the DD length but provision it for the day cab mounts. Since I needed extra wheels and tires for the triple drive, I got some Moebius aftermarket wheels and tires for this one. My cat lost my front axle and center link so I robbed them from a Ford Coca Cola straight truck kit. I got the brake backing plates from the Ford kit as well. Oh, and I converted the headlights to rectangular ones from Auslowe using just a file (no putty).
  8. I've been working on this since I've been home (3-21) for a lady friend's now 13 year old son. His dad died about six years ago while loading cattle. He owned and operated a 1993 (?) COE and had always talked about building it into a Joker style rig. Well, heck, I can at least build a tribute. Lots of input from them on details,. I'm almost "done" with it, so lots of pics. Got nothing but time, so here... we... go!
  9. Well it is finally finished. I learned a lot from building this one. I scratch built and modified a number of items. I highly recommend slotting the frame holes for the cab (tilt/pivot) to facilitate the bazzilion times you will take the cab on and off during the build.
  10. Here's my kit. I have an idea for a direction. Time will tell if I can make it happen. Funding this project will be my only limitation.
  11. I am building two Freightliner COEs simultaneously. Here is some of the slow progress on the 2nd more ambitious project.
  12. Hello, my name is Brenden. I am not new to this board, but I recently just signed up. I build model trucks in the 1/25 scale, and I'm working on a White Freightliner cabover at the moment.
  13. Hello everyone, my name is Alex, I’m a diesel technician and I love diesels wether they’re light, medium, or heavy duty! I’m new to building Scale models and this “White Freightliner” kit by AMT (1:25) is my first ever model I’ve ever built. I am very hooked on this hobby and I look forward to seeing everyone else’s builds and pick everyone’s brains a little bit.
  14. This is my version of the ATM White Freightliner. I wanted to make a very tired and weathered truck and liked the look of the dual drive day cab. I used the salt method with a base of brown under the green and then added some more weathering with acrylics. The cab was very fiddly to put together, but other than that, I found it went together well. I shortened the stacks a bit and add some air hoses. I'm pretty happy with it and felt I didn't rush it with my second model kit since I was a teenager (I always got frustrated with models when I was young). Thanks for looking!
  15. Hi guys, this is my annual build, an Italeri FLD120 with a Moebius 53 foot Great Dane roll up door dry van. I have seen these D&R rigs go up and down the highways since I was a kid. In the early 90's I was struck by the styling of the FLD as being a breakthrough at the time, being very good looking for a fleet truck. So, since I'm familiar with the Day & Ross "Ship The Big Orange" paint scheme and still liking the FLD so much, I decided to make one of my own! So here is the breakdown, I started with the Italeri kit that has the silver truck box art with the cab side exhausts. The truck is box stock except for shortened rear hubs, "baby moon" button hub covers, Michelin drive tires from SIA A&N and a replaced the roof air deflector with a unit from a Revell of G Pete 359. Air brake hoses are on the truck and trailer too. The Moebius smoothside is also almost bone stock, except for the scratch built wheel hubs and KFS 1/24 scale wheels and Italeri tires to match. All wheels roll on the rig, that's just something I have to keep. No I don't play with them, it's just that I need to keep the "functionality" on all my builds. The decals are from Jerry at Modeltruckin'. I still have to go through some last details like the connecting hoses and wires to get the whole package finished though. Here are the pictures...
  16. It's that time of year when people will be looking at moving to new homes. That means that they will need the services of moving companies. Brokendumpt Movers is one such company that they can call upon. 95% of our customers have called to comment on how they marveled upon opening their boxes and discovering that there were many more pieces than when the boxes were packed. The other 5% are just a bunch of whiners and complainers. If your refrigerator door no longer closes just prop a chair against it or duct tape it shut, You had a gas stove but what arrived was an electric. Good grief! How picky can you get? They also enjoy the anticipation as boxes and pieces of furniture arrive over the months and years, and feel great joy when some of them are actually theirs. We have received many emotional comments from customers who have opened boxes of photographs and were surprised and often shocked at the contents. We must place a disclaimer here that we have no control over what other people are photographing. On the flipside, I'm sure that the people that got your photos find you to be really boring, so it all evens out. Let us at Brokendumpt Movers do to you what we've done to our other customers. It will be an experience you'll remember for the rest of your lives. We would provide you with an address or phone number, but our secretary is the only who knows them, and she suddenly came into a huge sum of money and left the country without leaving any information as to her location.
  17. I got mine a few days ago, and of course had to rifle through it. Some pros: good cast detail and parts count, very full box, great decal sheet. Some cons: non-chromed fuel tanks (this is a little thing I know, but I remember the originals having chromed tanks), some casting flash (to be expected for a kit of this vintage), (to me) an odd parts breakdown (how they were seperated). All in all, a good kit and a welcome re-issue. I have my order in for a second kit so that I might build an extended sleeper version. Thanks to AMT for re-issuing this kit.
  18. The CMT White Freightliner photo etch set sent me speeding down this path. I wanted to build something Detroit powered for a change, and what better combination that a Sliver 92 and a WFL cabover. The radiator and grille from CMT. The Stabilaire suspension from Italeri was narrowed about 2 mm to fit the 1/25th frame. Out board exhaust and dual air cleaners were added. The interior was converted to a platform style, and 150 gallon tanks were fashioned. Some srap box exhaust give a preview in the mock up photos. The headlights were lowered, the front axle was moved forward on the springs about 3 mm, the wheel arch reshaped, a front crossmember/radiator support was made, and a corrected visor and mounting bracket were added. Thank you for taking the time to look, Mark.
