  1. Hey Luke'57 this is GOOD...real good! You need to talk to Gregg and get those pics in one place within a Model Cars issue. What say you gang?
  2. Cool pic Luke'57!! I DO remember those tubes of glue and those little bottles of paint...but then...I remember having lots of black hair that isn't there anymore too
  3. Having had the pleasure of numerous emails with John, of Auto World (Round 2), I find him to be a real nice guy with whom to communicate ideas for possible future model kit issues. He is VERY interested and dedicated to putting forth a product worthy of your respect. Having said that I would encourage anyone with good, positive, ideas and suggestion to forward your thoughts directly to John via email. Let him know what you would like to see in future kits. Now is not the time to tear down but rather a time to join in and be a part of this incredible opportunity to offer your suggestions directly to someone in the modeling industry who is willing to listen.
  4. "Another thing that bugs me about what I'm seeing raise its ugly head here, and that is the personal bickering--that's not the model car building family I've come to know over the years, guys. Sure, we do disagree, that's human. But to come to blows, at least digitally, isn't what I would expect to see or hear when I sign on to a great message board, nor experience at a model car contest or NNL." Biscuitbuilder, you are correct here. Ron L, my apology to you is on public display. I'll be the first to say I was out of line with my comments and I'd like to extend my hand in apology to you. Joe
  5. Ya know Ron L.....if you don't like what you read here and you want to start bashing someones dreams before they even get off the ground with your whining ######...you could just go somewhere yourself...where the cleavage is dark would certainly be OK...don't think many of us would mind IMHO.
  6. I'm really looking forward to seeing what "memories" are brought out for us to build again. This is like being a kid waiting for Christmas morning to hurry up and get here!! Joe
  7. This can mean great fun-filled projects for us in the future!!! Best to all of you in your new adventure, John. Joe
  8. Went to Michaels yesterday and used the 40% off coupon for the first time. Picked up the Revell '64 Chevy Impala SS Lowrider kit which had a $16.95 price tag less the 40%. Sure makes sense to clip the coupon. Will use some of the stock parts to enhance my AMT '62 Impala SS build. Thanks to those who alerted me to the coupon!
  9. Went to the LHS and picked up the Revell '32 Ford Sedan Street Rod 2'n1 Kit. This is one heck of a nice issue!! Going to pick up a couple more of these. Oh, almost forgot...picked up the Lindberg re-issue XFY-1 VTO "POGO" verticle takeoff aircraft...WAY COOL. Happy building!
  10. Way to go on that wagon body, Jairus!!! That is COOL.
  11. ....uh, Raymond....what means you about dat scraping chrome thing....we doone scrape no stinking crome back then!..did we?
  12. Hi, Terry! I can remember attempting the Orange Crate back when...but never actually "building" it. At least the way it was supposed to look ! Ended up using most of the parts and the body on other builds. (And yes, I did consider the M-80 route ) I have another unwrapped kit waiting for me to get the courage to build it....is a Weel Scarewee Thing...Ha Ha. Seriously though, I tip my hat to anyone who could complete that model back then and make it look the way it was supposed to look; was kind of like the Lil' Coffin model build. BTW Terry, your Hot Rod Model Kits book was GREAT!! Let us have some more books from you soon. Joe
  13. Hey, Jairus! I sometimes raise the roof when I get my California Fat Tele out and play it..........what's that got to do with putting two extra doors on a '53 Ford?
  14. Hi, Leigh. Be sure to tell your dad how we admire his work! So glad to hear he's still fighting tough on the Cancer. Got out my Revell Lil' John Buttera Chopped '34 Ford Coupe (Kit H-1337) and am looking at the pic of him in his shop. Prayers and thoughts for you all. Joe
  15. Clay, all I can offer you is the advise to really stop and consider what you are getting into. Especially in todays economy. Like many others of us I too opened a hobby shop while excited about the model building hobby. For me, in the early '70's, it was flying model aircraft along with the usual hobby shop items of the time. .....and shortly thereafter Tower Hobbies came on the scene. Even then I could not compete with their pricing and soon had to close my door. Today it is much tougher to make a go of it with the age of instant gratification and Internet shopping. When I go to my LHS I don't see a lot purchases being made at any given time....though there is always a lot of looking. Looking doesn't pay the bills. It's commendable that you have the desire to take this hobby to the next level in your life...just be VERY sure you AND your family do the homework on this first. Closing the door on your dream is a sad moment in life. This from one who has been there. Joe
  16. The very best to you, Bob. Thanks for feeling you can share this time in your life with your friends and know you are not alone. P.S. if times get a bit "tough" just think of that huge popcorn pile back when ! We are with you buddy. Joe
  17. Just read today, on the SA Forum, of the passing of Boyd Coddington at the age of 63. Check out the SA Community Announcements. Anyone else heard this? What is your favorite Boyd Coddington design?
  18. Went in Michael's yesterday, in Traverse City, MI and yes they did have a lot of models. At full retail prices ($12-$17). Lots of good models on the shelves (mostly Revell).....and the shelves had very few vacant spaces. One needs to use that 50% off coupon to get a decent price. Same way with the local Ben Franklin store...lots of Revell models but few are being bought. Incidently both indicated they knew they were the only game in town on models other than the LHS and priced 'em accordingly. Went down to the LHS and spent my money there.
  19. Hi, Gregg. I also have the box. A bit old but in nice intact shape. The model is being restored by me from a previous builders rough start ,however, you're welcome to the box if you need it. Joe
  20. I too am glad to read about wives being supportive in hobby issues, and vise versa. My bride of 39 years (this coming May) has always been with me on my hobby ventures, be it plastic, R/C planes, or ship models. There have been earlier times when money was tight but she would always let me enjoy at least one model to build. Now that times are a bit easier she goes with me to the hobby shop and sometimes even picks out a model or two for me to "adopt" and take home. Last year, while driving down to Alabama to visit for a week with our daughter, we drove past the site of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Museum. When I mentioned stopping in to take a look at the models she didn't hesitate and we both had a great time. It's all in sharing as has been stated above. I go with her to her areas of interest without hesitation. Why be married as a couple if you cannot share in your mates interests and accomplishments? I often wonder with all the world strife and trouble in the world today why a woman, or man, would complain about a spouses hobby (unless it gets prohibitively out of hand or the funds just aren't there) that would bring that spouse some enjoyment in life.
  21. Andrea, thanks for the information. However we can help out be assured we will do our best. It's still a mean world out there for our troops wherever they happen to be stationed so giving of a few pieces of plastic and such is a way small price for what we get in return..freedom. Your husbands, and familys, service is greatly appreciated. Blessings. Joe
  22. Hey, Curt...my bad...I WAS thinking of Bonnie Rait. Raul...I almost bought a G&L guitar as they are nice instruments. Like my Fat Tele with the 5 way switch and humbucker played through my Princeton Chorus YEEEEEEEEHOOOOOOOOODoogy....what FUN!! Great music, fun model kits to build, neat folks in the forum...what more could you want. (OH, Bonnie..........)
  23. Hey, Raul.....you're on this thread toooooo..... I too play guitar; have a California Fat Tele and a Taylor 214...but I can't play 'em and do models at the same time. Heck I can't play 'em and chew gum at the same time.. So, I listen to BTO, Lynard Skynard, Stevie Ray Vaughan, CCR, Patsy Cline, Hendrix, Beatles, Buddy Guy and the like. Even listen to some Classical music from time to time. Happy building! Hey, Curt...you any relation to that great female slide guitar player?
