1962 Model Car cover model.
Terry Sumner replied to 84vanagon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is very cool! Don, can you scan the cover page and post it? -
A short story for you here if ya care to read on... My very first ever ride in a high powered car was in a 61 Impala almost exactly like the one you built here. I had a friend, Warren Sipuleski (RIP) who had a 61 and he transplanted a 396 into it with a four speed. The other cool thing was he had added a reverse teardop hood scoop on it. Man that car was bad! I was aroun 15 at the time as I recall and he gave me and another friend of mine a ride at night on a back road. He burned rubber in that car for what seemed an eternity. From then on I was hooked on high performance cars. Your model brings back some great memories of my friend....thank you!

Will it burst into flames????
Terry Sumner replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use masking tape frequently in my dehydrator to affix small parts to some kind of substrate to hold them in place. Never had a problem although the glue gets a little stickier while it's in the heat. Parts always come right off with no problem. Are you talking about masking tape right on a body, like in doing a two tone paint job or masking graphics or something like that? If so, maybe try it out on a junk body first. Different brands of masking tape may give different results too. -
A Mustang to Dye For
Terry Sumner replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
An interesting idea to be sure. I would think that you would have to get any bodywork done and do it very well. Get rid of all the flash of course and mold lines etc. But I also think maybe you might have to polish the body. My reason for thinking this is my concern about the finish...will it come out sort of flat? Or will it come out glossy? Maybe with a highly polished surface it might come out glossy...I dunno. Interesting though.... edited for typo.. -

Vermont huh? I was born in St Albans and at one time lived in Benson, just a short hop from Rutland. -
MassCar show short videos
Terry Sumner replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm planning on attending the Wings n Wheels show this coming Sunday in Chicopee, Mass. I'm going to try this again as I've figured out how to attach a closeup lens to the camera so I can get better, closer views. Plus, they have a bit better lighting there. The show usually attracts a fair amount of car models in addition to the airplanes and armor, etc. -
NNL EAST roll call
Terry Sumner replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Man oh man...now I'm going to have to miss the show! I just had a lady call and book me to deejay a party for her on Friday evening April 17th. Party will go to midnite, then with picking up all my gear and driving home it'll probably be 02:00 or so. I'm sure I'll be exhausted and driving 3+ hours to the show won't be high on my list of favorite things to do in the morning. Being laid off...can't turn down the opportunity to make a week's pay in one evening. So you guys that are going please take lot's of pictures! -
Hi Guys, Went to the MassCar show yesterday and instead of taking still photos, I decided to do a little video. My wife bought me this tiny little digital video camera called the Flip Video last week so this was it's Maiden Voyage. There are 2 videos about 7 minutes long each. Quality suffers greatly after Youtube's "processing", whatever that is, but they give you a different perspective on the models with the moving view around the models. I also found that the camera doesn't focus well up close, so next time I will have to remember to keep the camera at least 18" away from the subject. Anyway...on to the links! It's going to be a while
Terry Sumner replied to Scott H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My condolences. And yes, models will certainly be on the unlit back burner for a while. Terry Sumner -
I think the "best" one to use would be HoK clear that is compatible with your HoK paint. You sure can't go wrong by using the manufacturer's clear. You can get it directly from HoK, or Black Gold or at any well stocked automotive paint store. That said, you could also use most any of the automotive clears, like PPG, Dupont or Spies Hecker, also available at any automotive paint store. Alternately you could go to a friendly autobody shop and I bet they'd sell you a small bottle of clear and some reducer if you brought your own bottles. And if you have to use model paints, the Tamiya clear could be a good bet as would most of the other model paint clears.

Best frame to start off with (32 ford)
Terry Sumner replied to mademan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would think that would totally depend on exactly what you plan to build. The 32 frame and the 25 frame are 2 different animals. Like comparing apples and oranges. Decide on what body you intend on using and then go from there? Terry -
Show me your dehydrators...
Terry Sumner replied to LVZ2881's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's the exact same one I have and you've set it up the same way I did. My only suggestion is to tape all the pieces together so they don't come apart on you. Terry -
I went with my son to one of his fellow volunteer fireman's houses today to look at a 97 Harley he wants to purchase. So it was okay and all...I like bikes but I'm not nuts about them. As we approach the small garage in his back yard where he has 2 harleys stored, my eyes caught sight of a section of the yard way in the back with some cars parked there on a slab of asphalt. So after we're done looking at the bikes I ask if we can look at the cars. Sure he says. So get THIS..parked there was a number of muscle cars all being saved from when this guy's father was a younger gearhead..all being saved for restorations for each of his sons one day, of which my son's friend is one of those lucky sons! In this group was a 1973 Corvette Coupe L-82, a 1979 Trans-Am, a 1979 Camaro Berlinetta, a 1968 Dodge Charger with the original factory 440 and finally, the car that gave me the mini heart attack, an all original 1966 Chevelle SS396 with it's factory installed engine, trans and rear!!! All cars are four speeds. The Chevelle and the Charger had Hurst Competition plus shifters and all were in pretty good condition. They all need body-off restos, but they are all original! My Gawd I was in heaven! And no...dammit..none of them are 4 sale! They're still out there! Terry

Auto World survey
Terry Sumner replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
By sheer coincidence over the weekend I wrote an email to them asking if there were any updates on the upcoming releases of the Munsters car, the Double Dragster and the 25 T kits. Here's what I received back yesterday.... ----- Original Message ----- From: John Greczula To: tsumner@ct.metrocast.net Cc: sales@round2corp.com Sent: Monday, February 23, 2009 8:49 AM Subject: Re: AutoWorld.com Website Contact Results Terry, No updates at this time, other than we've had to push the release date of the Munsters kits back to later in the year. We have a new web site dedicated to the model kits. Please check out http://www.round2models.com for new and updates as they happen. Don, When I called trying to get a room at the Ramada, the guy asked me if I was with any group. I told him I was going to a modeling show and he immediatelysaid that Mr. Geiger had blocked a number of rooms for the show folks. I said, Oh, Tom Geiger? He said yes, but that all the rooms were gone now. So maybe you should call back and tell him you're there for the show and Tom Geiger and all that...maybe you could get a break on the room price???
-
Got a room at the LaQuinta a mile or 2 away to the west. Actually the next exit west off I-80. Single or twin queen size rack for $65 a night!
-
Thanks! But how would I get the Employee rate? Or can't I? Terry
-
Wow...I just called the Ramada for a room and was informed that they are all sold out! Anyone know of any other hotels close by? Terry

NNL EAST roll call
Terry Sumner replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As of today I'm planning to go, but maybe just for the day as it's only about a 3 hour drive. Then again, the older I get, the less I'm able to drive for hours when I'm tired. Terry -
Another idiot eBay buyer
Terry Sumner replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh I have no problem whatsoever for the seller getting whatever he can for any given item. I just thought it kinda stupid to pay more on eBay than you would by going to the direct source. But I hadn't thought about a long delivery time and that could very well have been worth the extra bucks to that buyer. Terry
