Doesn't look a WHOLE lot different from today's minis does it? 45 years old and still the same!
-
For about 5 years up to Sept of 09, I was the General Manager of an independant BMW repair garage and I also wrenched there too. Did a helluva lot of work on theose E-36's! I was always amazed at how fast that little straight six was! Never knew there was a model of the 36!

Actually, the brake calipers and wheels are Bob's...the other stuff I made on my lathe...
-
Yes I'd say they do look pretty close. But I couldn't even begin to tell you how to make the modifications. If it were me I would gather every bit of info I could find on the two cars...photos, diagrams, measurements, etc. Compare the 2 photographically, then maybe be able to see what would have to be modified to turn the 36 into the Zephyr. Another way is to procure the Ertl 1:18 scale diecast model. I've read that it's an excellent replica. Then maybe you could use that to assist you in determining how to go about converting the 36 Ford to the 27 Zephyr. An interesting challenge! I think it could be done. Here's a link to the Ertl diecast... http://creativeclock.com/Diecast-Cars/1937-Burgandy-Lincoln-Zephyr-Main.htm

Well I'm getting going again on this project that stalled a while back. Going for kind of a pro street look, at least in that I'm using some big tires out back on a 4 link suspension and airbags. I've sort of re-made the rear end by using aluminum tubing in place of the kit axle tubes. The wheels are Bob Dudek aluminum items with some special adapters I machined on my little Unimat lathe. I've drilled out the units and drilled and tapped and installed 000-120 rod for wheel studs. The only trouble is I don't like the 000-120 nuts...they're too big so I'm going to have to solve that problem! Basically I'm using the chassis out of the 39 Wagon Rod kit. I'm also going to use the Wagon Rod front end, but with specially made spindles using Bob Dudek items and some of my own mods. Here is the look I'm kind of going for in the chassis... Hosted on Fotki This is the rear end, although the 4 bars will be mounted further outboard... Hosted on Fotki This is what the front spindles will look like. The brake calipers were machined by Bob Dudek also. Hosted on Fotki Another view of the front spindles... Hosted on Fotki This is a close view of the rearend in place in the chassis but the 4 bars aren't mounted yet.. Hosted on Fotki Maybe a bit better view of the inside of the rearend... I still have to fab up some caliper brackets. Hosted on Fotki The chassis in a jig I made up to get everything aligned properly and to set the ride height or "stance" the way I want it. Hosted on Fotki Rear view of the chassis in the jig. The engine is out of the Wagon Rod also. It is a Corvette LT-5...something I thought would be a little unusual for a street rod instead of the usual sbc or bbc.... Hosted on Fotki A mockup of the body... Hosted on Fotki

Steve, This some some really great craftsmanship! You should make RTV molds of the parts you make, cast the parts, and sell a kit to build a Camaro like this! (so other less talented modelers [like me] could build something like this!)

I'll chime in with my agreement with the other guys in the majority on those overly large wheels and rubber band tires...they look out of place on a classic musclecar. Your paint and construction looks good though! One criticism I have is of the model's front swaybar...it's literally on the ground or maybe an inch above. Wouldn't be able to drive that car like that. -
69 RT CHARGER - MADE IN BRAZIL - FINISHED
Terry Sumner replied to uelder valongo's topic in Model Cars
Wow...original post in 2006! That's definitely deserving of some kind of "Post Resurrection" award! However, I would like to ask the builder, "What was your technique for replicating the vinyl top"? -
I love Deuces in almost any configuration. May I ask what kit was that one made from?
-
Somehow I ended up with 2 of those kits in my stash. I think I got the second one off eBay when I had a senior moment and forgot that I already had one!

Brings back pleasant memories... In 1981, when I met the gal in who would later become my wife, I had a 78 Z-28 in Carmine Red. Loved that car...don't have it anymore...still have the wife though!

Nice job on fading those colors into each other...that's a fairly tough thing to do!

34' Ford Pick-up
Terry Sumner replied to vizio93's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Cool model! The 34 pickup is one of my old favorites too. Just don't drive this one on the road though...that radiator grill looks like it will hit on a one inch bump! -

Gasser Pics

You're welcome Tim, but I can't take credit for scanning and posting the book originally. The entire book was posted on the Quartermilers forum by a guy who goes by the name of "curb" back in 2008! -
Gasser Pics
Terry Sumner replied to Greg Cullinan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Absolutely right! One of my pet peeves is calling any car with a raised front end a gasser. All gassers back in the day had to be able to be run on the street. This meant that they had to have a cooling system including a radiator in the darn thing. And the radiator had to have as large a frontal area as the original radiator for the car. So many guys build what they call "gassers" with no radiator...which would then make it an Altered. Also, gassers could not have these highly raised front ends. The body and chassis could not be raised and the body had to remain level at a standstill when equipped with competition type tires. Here's the pages out of the 1970 NHRA Rulebook covering gassers... Hope this helps guys who are trying to build a period correct gasser. Some specifics and weight breaks for Supercharged gassers is covered on the lower left of page 28 and the top right of page 29. Otherwise, supercharged gassers had to follow all the gas class rules as the non-supercharged cars.. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki -
A 78 Camaro? I've never seen that kit. I've seen the 79, which is fine because about the only difference externally in the 79 from the 78 is the lack of the front spoiler on the 78. I had a 78 and my brother had the 80, which was pretty much the same as the 79. Was there a kit made specifically of the 78 Z-28? Terry

Geez Dave, that's incredible...you're so young my friend! Well hopefully you'll come out of this okay...you seem to have your brain working pretty good to be able to even write this message so I'm hopeful this is a good sign! -

Don't laugh...24 years ago we had a guy get rid of his wife in exactly that manner here in Connecticut!!! I didn't work on the case but it brought National attention! Richard Crafts ran his wife Helle Crafts through a woodchipper into a lake. We never found the body but we recovered a piece of a tooth among other small bits and Forensic Odontolgy was able to I.D. her from that fragment. Crafts was convicted and is in jail. Here's a link to a reasonably good story about the case. http://cmm.lefora.com/2009/10/01/helle-crafts-richard-craft-convicted-murderer/
