Good luck to our northern neighbors
Terry Sumner replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't laugh Harry... I bought the truck in July of 2003...with the plow on it. Of course I had to bring it to my father-in-law's house about 10 miles away as he was dying to see the new truck. On the way we stopped at a Ruby Tuesday's for something to eat. As we were returning to the truck a man and a woman were walking towards us and the guy said, "Nice truck." I responded, "Thanks..just picked it up from the dealer." To which the woman said, "SEE, I TOLD you he must have just bought it!" I was laughing my butt off. -

Sure do Harry...same here too. I take a lot of ribbing about driving a 12 mpg vehicle but I can still go to the drugstore for my wife's meds or to the store for whatever. AND I'm the first one they call when they need something moved or they're snowed in....so it's fun to rib back at times like these... -
Agree...I like Fotki much better.

As Matt said...I laugh at a foot of snow also! Hosted on Fotki -
Absolutely! The Pro Stock cars from the early 70's were my favorites along with the Funny Cars. Of course that was back when you could actually recognize what kind of car it was!

Thanks much for that photo Roger. I was one of the track announcers at Connecticut Dragway back in that time frame and as such I was in the pits around these Pro Stocks when they came to the track for a show. But I could not for the life of me remember the 16 plug heads in 70 or 71.

Looks good man. But I'm curious...would you have any photos of Landy's Hemi with the dual distributor ignition setup you have there? I don't recall hemis having dual distributors back in the 70 - 71 Pro Stock era. That doesn't mean they weren't there but I just don't recall them back then and I'd love to see a photo of that setup from back then. I met Landy in 1971 and was up close and personal to his car in the pits and I don't remember the 2 distributors.

These are the best graphic type flames I've ever seen on a model!

What's up with the hood? Won't it close all the way down? Just wondering as I have this kit unbuilt and just wanted to know if there is an inherent problem with the kit parts?

Gotta agree with first 2 posters...love the Camaro...hate the tires...er..rubber bands. I don't think they go well with the old school Hilborn style air scoop.

For the Pet lovers

Dogs have owners....Cats have staff! -
Well besides marrying my wife and having my 4 kids...I saved a guy's life back in 78 or 79 while on duty. I pulled him from his overturned car after he crashed it at over a hundred mph. Had a tough time getting him out because his legs and arms were caught around the steering wheel. It was going to be a while before the local volunteer fire dept could get to the scene on the interstate. And seconds after I got him out, the car caught fire and burned to the ground.

Cats in the model room
Terry Sumner replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We have...gulp...10 cats! Yes that's right...TEN little furballs! But in all fairness, they are my wife's cats. One is my buddy and sleeps with me every night right next to me but the rest hang out with my wife. And since my wife is totally disabled and cannot work and needs her hips replaced etc etc...they are what keep her company through all the long days. There's always at least one of them on her lap! My shop is in my basement though and they aren't allowed in there. Already suffered damage in the past and am not going through that again! -
Dave...as for the soldering of the chassis brass...are you soldering with a pencil or are you using a resistance soldering setup? Would love to see some in progress or howto's on your soldering techniques...

Who's got the most trophies?
Terry Sumner replied to samdiego's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Same here. Can you give some background on those little bits? I mean like what kit they came from? Especially that tiny little beer stein? I also recognize some but not all of them. Funny how you don't take much notice of such a small item in a kit but how interesting a collection of them can be? -
I don't think it's right
Terry Sumner replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Would ya feel the same way about a model car show? I know that most shows have a rule stating that the model must be built by the person entering it, but what if that rule were not there? -
"40 Ford P/U gasser
Terry Sumner replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave is correct....to compete in any Gas class, the wheelbase must remain stock. Pickups could be gassers of course, but had to have a fully serviceable bed that was at least 36" long. The Panella Bros pickup in the photo appears to be stock from the wheel to the front of the bed with the length taken off behind the wheel. This was the "legal" way to shorten the car. The fender is either a highly modified stock fender or maybe a whole new one grafted on. Take any length out of the wheelbase and you're instantly in an Altered class. -
Corvette C5-R Detail Pix
Terry Sumner replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes yes...thanks indeed for posting that! There are a TON of great detail shots there...which I saved of course! -
Here is something that can really help you. It's the NHRA Rulebook for 1970. Click on this and scroll down to the Gasser section. Read the rules and it will tell you what was legal and what was not. As one other guy said, many modelers use the term "Gasser" way too loosely. It seems anything with a raised front end is a gasser when raising a front end high like that wasn't even allowed in the Gas classes! http://quartermilers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rules&action=display&thread=933

Artillery Wheels ?
Terry Sumner replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think it's just the old saying, "To each his own." Personally, my own likes are similar to yours. I don't care for rusty cars, military styled cars, so-called Rat Rods, or any other faddish trend of the day. I prefer my hotrods either traditional or with modern running gear. And I prefer cars with nice glossy finishes. But if someone else likes to have real cars or build models of cars that I don't personally care for...well that's their business. More power to 'em! -
A.I.R. Pumps?
Terry Sumner replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rick...you are absolutely correct on all points including the last line. While maybe meant toungue in cheek, they are actually true!...especially the moisture part. Can't tell you how many problems those things caused for us at the repair garage because of water collected in them! -
Good luck with your wife man. I know how tough it can be when your wife is ill. 1,750 days in the hospital in the last 16 years has taught me that! Cherish every day! Terry
