DIY Decals in MCM?
Terry Sumner replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Can one individual modeler make one set of decals to put on one particular model and be within the law? I mean if he doesn't make any for sale? Or is that illegal too? And what if you took a photo of a car that was at the track and made your decals from your own photos? -
Surgery Pain! Oww....
Terry Sumner replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Been sleeping on and off all day. No booze. It goes like this: I have a bite to eat to have something in my stomach because if I don't the pill makes me nauseous. I take the pill...and it makes me sleepy so I sleep 2 - 3 hours. Then do it over again. Feels good to straighten the leg but hurts like you know what to bend it. So I've been trying to bend it a little at a time. No modeling right now though because of 2 things...the sleepiness and the fact that my model room is in my basement! Dang...gonna be a few days before I can get up and down those stairs comfortably. Which sucks because I'm dying to get back at Mr. Mooneyes! Just want to thank all you fellas for the kind words. You might think nothing of them, but they actually mean a lot! My son has been great...he went and got my laptop for me so I could have it here in bed... -
During surgery, the Doc injected my knee with a pain block...some kind of long acting novocaine type drug. Well I thought it only lasted a couple of hours...you know..like when you go to the dentist. So when I came home from surgery on Tuesday I felt GREAT! No pain at all. So I thought, hey, this is gonna be a cakewalk! I even drove downtown to the drugstore on Wed morning and took the trashcan out to the end of the driveway. But by the end of the day yesterday pain was beginning to creep in. I have another friend who just went through shoulder surgery and he was talking about the effect of his "pain block" wearing off after a couple of days. So I called my Dr. and was told that it takes 24 - 48 hours for it to wear off. Well when I woke up a short time ago it was "painfully" obvious it had completely worn off!!! Holy shitake does this thing hurt today! I can barely walk. And apparently I can't walk on "cake"!

Well friends, I'm home now. I took the pain meds he prescribed and, since I never take anything, it knocked my lights out but quick! Woke up an hour ago and my son had made Tacos! Yeah...and boy was I hungry. Laying in bed now actually pain free! I think I'm not going to be a hero-idiot for once and actually listen to my Doctor and my wife and take those pain meds! No sense getting behind the 8 Ball I guess. Now to watch the UConn women's basketball game. Thanks so much for all your kind words...we have a great group of modelers and friends on this forum!

Got to get my knee fixed as it's getting harder and harder to walk on it. The Doc is gonna do some arthroscopic meniscus dremel tool work in there and get me fixed up. Did the same thing to my other knee almost 10 years ago and that one has been great ever since, so I have high hopes for this one turning out just as good! If I can get down the stairs into my shop ok I might have some free time to continue on the Mooneyes project!

I'm having surgery tomorow myself but when I read things like this it reminds me how minor mine is! I had 4 kids...2 boys and 2 girls so I know how you feel. There's nothing so heavy on a parent's heart and mind as when one of their children is in such a situation. I believe because it's totally out of your hands and you are just a bystander while others care for your child. And since that job is yours, it's very hard to have to stand by and let others step in. Have confidence my friend...Doctors today are truly miracle workers!

A Bunch of MASSCAR photos!
Terry Sumner replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Might be thinking of someone else. If so, the name is awful close. Guy's name was Ed but not 100% sure of the last name now. Something like Konsinski. He had a very nice 66 Chevelle that he entered in a show we had in Connecticut many years ago. Nice guy! -
Micro Lathe Question
Terry Sumner replied to Doughnut's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sounds like you have a break in power somewhere. Use a meter and check to see where the power stops. Start at the end of the power cord where it enters the switch and keep going from there. Just follow the path..maybe the cord is bad or maybe the switch is bad. Does it have a warranty? If so be careful you don't void the warrnty by opening the electricals up. -

Ed! Hey man...haven't seen you in a long time! Still got that Chevelle model from long ago? -
Rob that makes me feel old because in 1969 I owned a 66 Chevelle SS! I guess I must be as old as your parents!

OK..a little more done on the Dragster part. I scratchbuilt the front axle by using brass tubing and bending the upsweeps in my hands using a line I drew on paper for the pattern. Then I cut a couple of short lengths of tubing and soldered them to the axle with silver bearing solder. I didn't want to use anything with lead in it anticipating actual chroming of these parts later on. Tonight I started scratchbuilding the spindles. I have a little Unimat lathe so I took a 1/4" diameter piece of brass rod and got to work. First I turned the OD to .240". Then turned the spindle's axle to .062" diam. I then chucked the spindle into a pin vise to hold it. Then I used a cutter in the dremel tool to hog out the area between the tabs where the kingpin goes through. Then filed away more material there to get a nice slide fit of the spindle over the axle tubes. More cutting and fitting and then drilling an .062" hole through the spindle tabs and It's there. I plan on turning a threadless "bolt" to use as a kingpin which you can see in the first pic of the 1:1 spindle. I now have to make the 2 arms for the left spindle..one for the steering drag link and one for the tie rod. I haven't decided yet how I'm going to make them and attach them. I may drill and tap as I have a 0000-120 tap or I may just solder them to the spindle body...we'll have to see. And then I gotta make one to match the passenger side! This is what I'm trying to make (without the taper on the spindle axle): Hosted on Fotki The partly done spindle, less the arms... Linberg 66 Chevelle SS
Terry Sumner replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've owned 3 1966 Chevelles in my life and I will echo what the others have said...it's a really good kit! -
My pleasure. I like to help guys out to get things correct...if that's what they like to do.

Mark is correct...the tires like you have there are wrinkled in one direction only...indicating the car under launch but not sitting still. While wrinkle wall tires do wrinkle at rest, they do so in both directions at the same time. To help you out here is a photo of a car under hard launch. Note the way the wrinkles always point to the front...I hope this helps you out.. Hosted on Fotki And here is a photo of a car equipped with wrinkle walled slicks at rest. Notice how the wrinkles are much less pronounced and they extend away from the center in both directions. Hosted on Fotki
