  1. I always had the feeling that some of these one part fillers were nothing more than some old stuff I used to use years ago for filling pinholes and the like on 1:1 cars. Does anybody remember that stuff? It was called Nitrostan. It was red and was nitro cellulose based. I always thought it was kind of like thick paint pigment. Not good for filling anything more than a topcoat over regular polyester fillers.
  2. Ken's right on about the superglue as a filler...I use it all the time on airplanes and sometimes on cars. The only catch with superglue is...you should sand it as soon as it sets up. Other wise, once the superglue fully cures it is much harder than the plastic and it's easy to sand too much plastic away from the superglue area...
  3. Oooh... I like this one too! Also the Revell kit? And are those the kit decals in each one? I have a few of the first issues with the red and black street rod on the boxart and one mazmanian issue, but none of the SWC issues.
  4. I'll add one more vote for the Bondo brand Professional Finishing glaze. This stuff is very very fine grained and sands beautifully! I got it in a slightly bigger size at Advanced Auto Parts. Hosted on Fotki And here's the pinkish color that Harry alluded to when it's mixed and applied... Hosted on Fotki
  5. You LIVED with Don?
  6. Brett: Really nice. Gotta build this car myself one day! I have a question. Is this the new Revell kit? There appears to be a kit design flaw in the engine height? In the real car, the Hilborn scoop sits quite a bit more up out of the hood. On the model I see it's way too low. Is that just how the engine sits in the chassis? If so this is a good thing to know because now I know in advance that the engine could be mounted a bit higher to get that scoop up out of the hood more... Or maybe the Olds engine is higher than the hemi... Hosted on Fotki
  7. Cool...4 months later and more progress! Man I gotta get back going on my Mooneyes project. Trouble is I've been so busy with my son building his Harley. All done now tho....
  8. I don't think anyone commenting on this particular model has said or implied that the fellow is a "bad" guy...the comments are directed at the premise that the model was built by what the seller purports to be a "professional" builder, yet the model has serious construction flaws. The seller may very well be a really great guy as some of you guys have said...but he shouldn't be making the claim that the model was built by a "pro builder" when the evidence clearly does not support that claim.
  9. In 1971 I owned a 1968 TR250. For those who don't know, this was the transition year when Triumph went from the TR4A to the TR6. It was basically the TR4A body and frame with the TR6 6 cylinder engine. Mine was red with a sliver stripe across the front end. Loved that little car but there was ALWAYS some small thing going wrong with it, especially with the Lucas electrics!!! I mean mostly small things like switches breaking, a door handle falling off...things like that. Then one day I backed out of the driveway, put it in first to take off and the tranny went! I was a student in Trade School for Tool and Die making at the time and I ended up making new gears in school. Sometimes I wish I still had that car but I'd have a hard time getting into it now!
  10. My wife has attended shows with me and has bought me quite a few models over the years. She actually presses me to take the day and go model shopping! She's the best!
  11. The 61 is an Imperial. My favorite cars from that movie were the 58 Vette and the 56 Belair! I saw this one when it came out at the movies in 1967 when i was the tender age of 15!
  12. One thing about the one I posted that really appeals to me is that he eliminated that big hunk of chrome behind the rear tire. While some may love that aspect of the Starliner, it just never appealed to me...
  13. I think this 60 is absolutely gorgeous. It's almost exactly how I've been thinking about building the 60 Starliner in my stash..or even the 60 Impala! Down low...big block engine...flawless candy...just perfect! Here's a link to some other photos of the car... http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/projects/1960-ford-starliner.html And here's a teaser pic I got off the net.... Hosted on Fotki
  14. Thanks to my late Uncle Gerry Gignac, a medic on D-day and the battle of the bulge! Miss you Unk! And of course to all the Vets out there who fought for our way of life...
  15. Andy...take a look here before you decide.... http://www.straightlinemodeler.org/rice.html
  16. Here's a link to the specific page addressing your question..... http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/nhra-rulebook/pg48-49.html'>http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/nhra-rulebook/pg48-49.html I have the whole 1970 NHRA Rulebook copied and on my Fotki site here... http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/nhra-rulebook/
  17. As an IPMS judge and a head judge at at least one show I can tell you that doing the modification you refer to is not only ok...it would be expected. It would be considered basic modeling skills. Much like thinning the trailing edges of airplane wings for a more realistic depiction.
  18. Great job! More pictures please?
  19. John...just curious...is your name pronounced Ter-ess-ee or Ter-ee-see?
  20. Another thing that will greatly influence your build will be what year dragster you plan to model. In less than a decade...say for example the 8 years from 1961 to 1969...front engined dragster's chassis underwent MAJOR design changes. A 1961 dragster was most likely of the Dragmaster type as in the Mooneyes dragster. A short wheelbase boxy chassis. In 1969 they were considerably different! Much longer wheelbase, much changed designs. So you first must decide what year you want to model and then base your research on that. Here is a photo of a Dragmaster type front engine dragster from around 1961 or so.... Note how short the wheelbase is and how boxy the overall design is. Hosted on Fotki Now here is a slingshot from only 8 years later..in 1969 (WITH the 426 Hemi type engine). Hosted on Fotki And here is a photo of a 392 hemi in a slingshot dragster... Hosted on Fotki So pick your year and then pick your car first, then decide how you want to go about building it. You can look up Dragmaster chassis, Logghe chassis, Don Long chassis, and Woody Gilmore chassis among others and you'll be able to find photos of what the bare chassis looked like.
  21. Boy Chuck you got that right! I reread my posts and change words constantly to try to avoid any misinterpretations. But sometimes no matter what you write someone will misinterpret. That's just the way it is when writing and not being eye-to-eye as others have already stated. It's just a fact of the internet world I guess...
  22. Ah but we don't really know if he did or did not do we? I mean...we weren't there. The only 2 people on earth who know that for sure is the cop and him. Maybe he didn't and if so, I too would give him credit for that as you said. Or maybe he did and it made no difference to the cop. Or maybe it never needed to be said...I mean in that area of the country maybe the cop recognized him immediately??? One of my fellow Troopers here in Connecticut gave Superman a ticket once...a long time ago. He got Chris Reeve somewhere in the 90's (mph) I believe. He told me at first he thought about just letting him go but then he thought about all the speeding tickets given to regular Joe working stiffs who make no where close to what Reeve made and said to himself, "This guy can afford it much better than a regular Joe." Same thing with another cop when he stopped David Letterman. Then Letterman of course joked about it on his TV show. Was pretty funny actually.
  23. Niko, may I make a suggestion? Read this thread.... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44595&st=0
  24. I said something quite similar back in July of last year in this thread... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33548&st=0&p=338546&fromsearch=1&#entry338546
  25. Yeah but then we'd all have to be in there all at once.....
