  1. Suggestion: Either use some melamine plywood for your modeling table or just buy some ready made counter tops at your local big box store. They're cheap and easy to build your bench with! Your room looks ripe for a nice U-shaped work area. That window right there makes it nice! See my shop photos for what I mean. (altho I don't have that nice window) http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/scale-modeling/my-modeling-shop/
  2. Go to www.straightlinemodelers.org and go to the reference section. All you need there.
  3. I will definitely be down for a few...
  4. I'm thinking it's got to be plastic because I believe all of Revell's diecast kit numbers start with the number 80 and the plastic one start with 85. And the 62 starts with an 85. Just a guess on my part....
  5. The model is cool...but the story is even better!
  6. I don't know... Just when I think I've got things down purty good I go to a contest and get my butt handed to me and I figger I don't have any strengths!
  7. I used to love watching cartoons as a kid. But I guess for nostalgia sake, I've tried watching them now and for some reason I just can't get into them any more. I dunno...maybe I finally grew up. But on the plus side, I LOVE all the new super hero movies...Batman, Superman, Iron Man, Green Lantern, Thor and I'm sure the new ones coming! Maybe I'm not completely grown up yet!
  8. Nice job on one of my favorite models from "back in the day"... MY day that is...
  9. Cool....I don't think I would have ever thought of that!
  10. Nice! What did you use for thet Shag rug in the trunk?

  13. Whattaya mean? It's a drag car...just doesn't have any markings!
  14. Love the play on words...Rot Rod as opposed to Rat Rod. It sure fits!
  15. NICELY DONE!!!
  16. Pretty cool gasser! If you're interested in accuracy I offer two points...the class designation is wrong as there was no D/GS class at least as far as NHRA goes. The car, with a 427, had to be run sometime around 1965 or later. The car would have weighed approx 3500 pounds so with 427 cubic inches, the weight break would have been about 8.2 pounds per cubic inch. With the supercharger, running NHRA in 1966 the class designation would have been AA/G. In 1967 it would have been in BB/G with the realignment of weight breaks. In 1968, NHRA added back in the "S" for supercharged and the new classes were AA/GS, BB/GS, CC/GS, with the same weight breaks, so the car would then have been designated BB/GS. In 1969, the weight breaks were changed again but your car would still have fallen into the BB/GS class. For 1970 they stayed the same. And the second point is that to run in the gas classes, the car had to have both front seats. Of course, as I said, this is all just for your own info in case you were interested. If not, please simply disregard and accept my compliments for a nicely done model!
  17. Shoot...have any of you guys ever looked at the photos of my car/motorcycle garage and the woodworking shop on the second floor? Ouch! I hate to think what I have tied up in the building and the tools in it!!!
  18. At last estimate some years ago I was well into the 30K+ range. I have over 700 kits...many more airplane kits than car kits. Most of the airplane kits are at least $30 - $50 with many over $100. Add to that all the aftermarket detail sets, the 300+ decal sheets, the hundreds of bottles of paint, the tools, the reference books (omigawd I have too many of those) etc etc and it adds up fast. Of course this is the result of being back in the hobby for over 20 years....since 1990 or so... I ought'a do a real inventory someday..... NOT!
  19. I made a right angle sander for squaring off the ends of strip, rod, square, hex or any other shaped platic. I've never seen anything that works better than this if you want a perfectly squared off end on a piece of plastic! I had a piece of phenolic resin type plastic laying around so I used that as the base. Just laid one piece on top of the other and then attached a piece of angle iron made of aluminum at a right angle. To keep it square I drilled 2 holes and pushed in a couple of steel dowel pins. That way, if I ever want to set it up at an angle I can get it back to perfectly square in a few seconds. Here's one view of it.... Hosted on Fotki And here is how it's used. You can use anything you want to do the squaring...sanding block..piece of sandpaper wrapped aroun a block of some kind...a file..whatever. In the photo I'm using one of my homemade sanding sticks as described in my previous post. Keep in mind that you need to use your left hand to hold the piece of plastic up against the angle iron and also give it some pressure forward to the sanding block. I had to use my left hand on the camera for this photo... Hosted on Fotki
  20. I make all my own sanding "sticks". I use double sided carpet tape and lay it on foam cafeteria trays. Then lay down a sheet of wet/dry sandpaper and cut them to whatever shapes I want. They work dry just fine and also work great under running water. I've also used the foam trays that supermarket meats come packaged in too but I run them through the dishwasher first to get rid of any bacteria.
  21. Nice build! The figure in the bed looks like Katy Sagal of the "Married With Children" tv show. Is that why you named her Katie?
  22. Wanted to thank all you fellas for the kind words and prayers. Something must have worked because this was one of her shortest hospital stays ever! 5 1/2 days for her is unheard of! So thanks again!
  23. Wow..is that ever different! And well done too!
  24. Is that the kit engine?
  25. Oh man...is that thing Sa-weet!!!
