i hope you dont mind, but this has inspired me. so much so that i picked up two of the fast and the furious '67 mustangs, and i happen to have a spare supra motor from tamiya's supra, and i decided to try this as well. im going to try my best to scrathcbuild a lot of the details inside such as turbo/intercooler etc. (i think the F&F veilside supra comes with some power-adding details). i'll be following your build as i slowly go through mine (this is my eighth project im working on! so i got many projects progressing slowly) and i will be posting my progress as well. I'll be ditching those cartoonish wheels that come in the F&F mustang kit... the actual tire is about as thick as a rubber band, and the rims are way to f-ing big IMHO. the second stang will have a kitbashed Skyline motor between the ###### RB26 provided in the F&F kit and Aoshima's almost as disappointing S-series "detailed" RB26 with a single massive turbo (more akin to the movie than the stock twin-turbo motor AMT provides). we'll see how THAT works out... still trying to FIND the turbos on AMT's snaked-out exhaust.

well, i got these in today, and needless to say i am terribly disappointed. its not the actual motor as a kit, its more like the bottom half of the engine molded as one piece with a partial engine bay, and various detail pieces for the head, intake, charge piping from the turbo and engine front, but no turbo or exhaust manifold to speak of. hardly worth the price i paid for it. can't be more than 16 pieces total, at roughly $1 per piece. not recommended at all... pay the same price for the GT-R or Calsonic kits from Tamiya and get the whole, much more detailed, motor. not to mention (assuming GT-R parts are exact 1/24 scale) this Aoshima "kit" appears to be more around 1/23 or 1/22 scale.

work has focused more on just my Skyline dragster. new supercharged motor plus slicks. most work has been to get the slicks to sit juuuuust right. Yes, the hood cracked a few times.

i know what you mean. every now and then we'll try way too freaking hard to catch a lizard. i'll let your imagination run with what a bunch of Marines with sub-zero liquified gasses do with a lizard

close. not the medical cryogenics. reminds me, in boot camp my company commander asked me if i could freeze him before he dies and bring him back later. its aviation cryo. Nitrogen for tires, oxygen for pilots O2 supply and some weapons systems on the fighters (ejecting munitions, LAU racks etc...) but yes, when we get bored we do freeze things!!

well, i just ordered 2 RB26's (would have just ordered one, but i couldn't justiy $9 shipping for only one, so i got two ). we'll see how they turn out. perhaps i'll review/criticize in the appropriate forum.

slight update, but no pics yet. picked up another model to donate some slicks. they're not the super-fat meats you'd find on a top-fuel dragster or a funny car, but they work. i dont remember exactly what car they came from (i looked at the pics on the box to see the tires, but its a revell model) after looking at the motor from the tire-donator, i decided to use that one. its slightly small in terms of cubin inch, but its super charged, while the other was naturally aspirated with big stacks. the new kit also came with its own side-exit exhaust, and i will be using/adapting those. pics coming up later.

thats exactly how i wanted it! this build is fun, i highly recomment ANYONE to try it out if they ahve the time! And i do say that the skyline has a natural look in this stance.

Ok, I'll admit it.... this build is getting very offensive to me, and possibly other skyline and/or Ford enthusiasts. and thats how i like it! this build is slow, as im putting my own skills to the test in many ways, but its looking more and more ridiculous as each work period passes. The Skyline: This one is looking more and more like your typical Ford or Chevy Straightliner that you'd see at the local drag strip on Friday night. I boosted up the rear suspension a little, and threw on some stock wheels from revell's Dodge Magnum SRT-8 (which I am also doing in Generic police markings). Since I dont have any kind of slicks to slap on, and these are the only "spare tires" i have that'll give that tail-high look I was looking for, I used them. they do look weird, I admit, but its the best i could do with my resources, and it gets the point across. The front suspension pieces are swapped from the 300ZX in my other build im following, and has been modified in a few small ways to get it to work with the engine oil pan, the Skyline springs and tires. even still, the oil pan and bell housing of the motor were trimmed to get a good fit. The drive shaft still needs to be lengthened, and i'll most likely go with some styrene rod when the time comes for that. Also cut a hole in the hood for the intake stacks. its a little rough, and the hood almost shattered a few times in the process, but it held together, and will look just "ok" on the final product. this is where my lack of patience got the better of me, as i've done cuts like that before but i didnt go through the normal process with this one. Hopefully you can see past the tape, nothing is glued down yet except the rear tires to the axles. Also note the side-exit exhaust, made from bent plastic from the parts tree! It'll be cleaned up later, for sure. The 300ZX: just front end work done so far. the whole Skyline front end is swapped in here (for those unfamiliar with the kit, the oil pan is one piece with the front drive shaft and axles) and the rest of the suspension components sat in there fine with little work. clearences are all where i want them to be, and the motor sits in the bay nice and purty like. I did some work on the exhaust. i like the dual exhaust of the original 300 too much, and i have some tips i plan on using for the dual exhaust, so i used a little "artistic license" with this and devised my own exhaust. looks good, and legit, but i would rather try for a true dual exhaust, and once i get some styrene rod I'll be working on that. doesn't look to be much of a challenge at all other than some under-car clearences. (sorry, this one is a bit bright.) Enjoy, comments and criticism (preferably constructive, but negative is ok too!) are always welcomed. If you see any mistakes, or areas I could to better, please let me know. though i've been doing this for 14-ish years already i still have TONS to learn. PS, any leads on where to find resin or plastic turbos and intercoolers? i know hiroboy.com has those, but i'd prefer a domestic site. preferably as an RB26DETT/Skyline add on to minimize scratchbuilding! thanks in advance!

Here is Tamiya's 1/24 Nissan Skyline GT-R... with a twist. we all know a little race-obsessed egotistical navy kid shoved an RB26 twin turbo in a 67 Mustang fastback in Fast and the Furious, Tokyo Drift. that was my original plan, but since i wasn't able to find the exact mustang to use, i decided to reverse this, and put some American Muscle in the Japanese Super car. I took the Motor from Revell's '69 Ford Shelby GT 500 and put it in the Skyline. I'm still trying to mock-up the motor, front suspension/underpiece, and the exhaust. components for the front suspension (everything but the springs pretty much) were taken from the Nissan 300ZX (mentioned again later) and the GT500 motor simply sits on top. The Skyline from here on out will be RWD, an the drive shaft will have to be scrathbuilt to reach the transmission now. When things get completed and glued down, more pics of the front suspension area will be posted, but for now, everything is just taped down. enjoy, and dont get too mad! (I personally think its awesome to see this motor in this car, even if its just plastic!) Next is Tamiya's similar release of the Nissan 300ZX. seeing as how I already built this with the stok TT motor and scratch built charge piping, I decided to add in the now up-for-adoption RB26 from the GT-R. Awesome thing is, the motor, axle and transmission seem like they were almost engineered to fit here. since the suspension was taken from the skyline, some adjusting had to take place to get the wheels to sit correctly in the well, and im still unsure if it will because nothing is glued in place yet. Some trimming of the rear drive shaft from the 300 had to be trimmed to meet up with the RB's transmission. the 300 is now 4 wheel drive. some sanding will be required on the bottom piece of the 300 to get the transmission to fit well. The exhaust set-up of the skyline had to be shortened by about 3/8 - 1/2 inch. if i had more scrathcbuilding experience i would try and make this a dual exhaust, but my experience sadly is a bit lacking. i did a partial scratchbuilt exhaust my other 300, but dont want to try it on this as its a full exhaust. Both builds look a little rough right now, but will polish out in the coming weeks. Updates on both will be added as building moves along.

thanks guys! yes, VictorSmalls , I will be building mostly new(er) cars, from thelate80's to early 90's and up. when I first started off in this hobby way back before I was 10 I did older cars, mainly low riders a 'stangs. I tend to gravitat to cars that I like, but would never be able to afford unless i had a six-figure salary! for Nick F40, that skyline will be a beast. i did a pseudo mock-up last night with the Shelby motor and the skyline body shell, and its going to look like hell... in a good way. the motor is going to have the velocity stacks and the ridiculously tall intake manifold/plenum, so the stacks go almost taller than the nissan. and that RB26 going into the 300Z almost seems like it was made to fit. I'll have pics of those up later in the appropriate forum! and a note of the 350Z: it has since had a wash added to the panel lines, so the lines are a lot more defined. all those pics are on my laptop though.

First up is Tamiya's 1/24 350Z NISMO Version. a few hiccups along the way, but it was my second car model after about 10-12 years of aircraft modeling. Sorry for the poor lighting. my house is FULL of lights and windows, but i can never get good lighting. and next is their same scale Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR (unfortunately, this car has since been cannibalized...)..and not as many pics. my first car in amlost 12 years Currently, i have a couple works in progress. Tamiya's Nissan 300ZX with an RB26 motor from their R32(?) Skyline (with bigger twin turbos) and (BLASPHEMY!) that same Nissa Skyline that donated its motor will have a "reverse Tokyo Drift", and will have a big V-8 from a Shelby GT500 shoehorned under the hood. I'll being doing WIP updates on those two for sure.
