  1. I want those rims on my Z until i can afford the Volks! nice, clean car you got there.
  2. thats ri-DONK-ulous... i agree... some bigger rims to fill the gap can also raise the overall altitude a bit!
  3. uh oh! thats gonna look awesome. any current pics?
  4. my 1:1 project car is a 1993 300zx non-turbo: mods so far: is 1999 JDM tail lights and front corner lights. (pic taken before lights installed) remove rear wiper motor and arm, plugged that hole. removed radio antenna and motor. Upcoming mods: Twin turbo conversion, predicted to push 500 hp to the wheels brand new black leather and blue suede interior. Volk TE-37 rimes, 18"x11" rear 17"x9.5" front my 1:1 daily driver is a 2003 hyundai elantra. Mods include cold air intake, custom cut and painted grill, HID headlights and im making a cust LED tail light assembly for it
  5. i'll take the prize behind door number 3! nice clean build you got there. with an RB in the back, that car would definitely be a whole other monster on the road!
  6. is that the "rb-26" motor from the fast and the furious mustang kit? it looks familiar...
  7. if i were taking that thing on the strip, i'd just shut of the engine and sit there. if i dont get in front, you cant shoot! that would be an interesting group build/build-off, but i dont see too many imports built here as it is. seems to be mostly domestic cars built by forum members.
  8. those advan's fit the bill pretty darn well. good build, nice and clean.
  9. we should race diymirage! you should see my next project; a twin turbo, intercooled, ford 427, 4wheel drive 2009 GT-R. then i plan on a twin supercharged 427 something... not sure on the chassis for that one yet. definitely import though. most imports, to me, look good with good old fashioned american muscle poking through the hood. i have a tamiya nismo 350z that might get that twin supercharged 427...
  10. are you sure the alternator doesnt float? im going to have to try that on one of my upcoming projects. i have a few diameters of solder around.
  11. Definitely not for ford fans! This supra, like the GTr was sitting in its box for months. i got to building it, and noticed i was missing the tires. unable to find anything else, i grabbed a set of slicks i had lying around, found a chevy motor from revell's 79' Z28, and made it work. the engine is just sitting on the suspension plate of the supra, and only ahs an upper radiator hose. a current project of mine will be an expiriment in detailing engines (its a twin turbo Ford 427). the build was fun, and as simple as the exhaust is, i like it. solder, once again. (solder has become my favorite model building tool...)
  12. after sitting in its box for about 4 months after paint, i decided to finish it. there's some paint bubbles and such, but thats cool with me. i didnt paint it! a buddy of mine who used to to grafitti art wanted to paint it, so i let him. only choice i had was color. enjoy!
  13. Ok, i got some higher resolutions pics. here they are, plus check out the under glass forum for my two finished projects for 2009! yuck... now i can really tell i need to clean up the black trim and the tail lights...
  14. Ok, I managed to snag a Monogram 1959 Cadillac El Dorado Seville hardtop. I intend to build it laying frame on the ground, wire spoke rims and wide white walls, sort of a bomb style, and im unsure on the color i want. I was thinking a White top and rear deck between the fins, and a dark pink/pale red on the rest of the body with white trim. Other option was Metallick blac with white trim on the sides, and the roof. third option is a high gloss red/candy apple with white top. any other suggestions? i love bulding lowriders, but i was never good at matching colors, but would prefer to keep this a two or three color scheme, not including a white top. the white top is a must for this kit. any input would be greatly appreciated! my ideas: 1) dark pink/pale red with white top and trunk 2) Metallic black with white top and side trim 3) high gloss/candy apple red with white top Your ideas: ??????????
  15. I assume you're asking about the Nissan. On the back inside of the body there's a bracket that holds the chassis. all i did was simply place the chassis on TOP of the bracket instead of INTO it. the front just sat that low naturally with the new bumper, but would have sat higher on the stock bumper. I found my camera batteries, so i will be posting sharper, higher resolution pics in the morning, and a side-by-side or two with a stock 300zx i have to compare differences. also, since i have the camera working again, i'll have a few posts up in "under glass" with the black drag supra and my red GT-R. on the bench after i finish this Nissan (should be done by tomorrow night) is my 87 Buick Grand National as posted above. just gotta do the interior there and im done!
  16. Done some work on the Z. wont say what was done, because everything except paint touch ups is done. im really happy with how she turned out. its my first finished model that used putty, solder for turbo and piping, and smaller engine details (lower/upper radiator pipes and a fuel line), swapped in engine (well, just the intake), and a full custom exhaust. again, sorry for the poor pics. they're from my cell phone as i cannot for the life of me find the batteries for my DSLR... Color is Tamiya rattle can Brilliant orange. interior is IJN Grey and semigloss black. Rims are from an RX-7 kit... Aoshima i believe. Enjoy. remember, she's not totally done. Also finished my 09 GTR, but i wont get pics of that until i find my DSLR batteries. SEE BELOW FOR HIGHER RES PICS!!!
  17. A few may remember all my WIP threads, and how i never followed up on them. well, here's a (for now) pic-less update. My Veilside 300zx is totall scrapped, and re-worked. Now its got a nissan skyline R32 front bumper, and a new Vr38 (R35 skyline) motor with a single large (VERY large!) turbo that would measure about 8'' across on a 1:1 car. made my own exhaust using solder (same as turbo, charge piping, and fuel line and radiator hoses) and utalized a 350Z muffler and Nismo 350 tips. this is my first expirement with squadron putty (only brand my local shop carries) and its turning out very well. second wip is an 87 buick grand national, and anyone thats seen my past threads knows its going to be anything but normal. Done it up in a dark green paint scheeme (may still add a 2nd and 3rd color) and is a bonified hopping lowrider. its got the equivalent or 18'' cylinders in the back which puts the back bumper ~ 5 scale feet in the air, while the front bumper is mere inches (in 1:1) off the ground. third is a 1980 Monte Carlo (MPC's Class Action Kit) to build in honor of my buddy's 1:1 lowrider '80 Monte Carlo. this one is 3-wheelin. no paint on this yet, been spending all my time on the suspension. and the kit that caused all this builders block: Tamiya's Enzo Ferrari. so far, my best attempt and best detailed model, but no drive to finish it yet (interior, exterior and all that is painted. literally all there is left is ext. decals, and the clear parts.) its pearl white with flat black stock rims and white/black interior. one that a buddy of mine will work on jointly is one of the Aoshima R35 Skylines. it will have drag slicks, a twin turbo (BIG turbos again) Ford 427 V8, wheelie bar and 'chutes out back. the ONE project i finished is a Supra... sort of. another import drag project of mine, it was a supercharged motor from a revelle 79 camaro 3n'1 kit. i will post pics once i can find my camera's battery and charge it. until then, all i got is crumby cell phone pics which dont look well.
  18. i do love me a slammed dually!
  19. most would complain about the wheels being too big. i wont. when a car is donk'd properly, i think its amazing. however, my personal opinion is that the tires are actually too WIDE. is that monster truck suspension?
  20. this is just my own personal preference, and you may already have a plan for it, but try to get the rims to sit either flush, or just ever so slightly inside the fender. much cleaner look. anywho, how's the level of detail? im assuming the engine is typical revell molding. i've been debating getting this and the civic hatch for quite a few months now. needless to say i will be following your builds here.
  21. cant wait til i have time away from work to start my FOUR GT-R's! got two tamiya, and two aoshima kits for about $90 altogether. Here's my own little review: Tamiya kit: moulding is typical tamiya, though i personally feel the panel lines will be too shallow once filled with primer, paint and clear, so a wash will be in order for me. as mentioned above, the engine has very good detail for being a glorified curbside kit. speaking of which, for a car with this much press coverage, and anticipation, you would think a full driveline (motor, trans, diff) would be seperate, and for the price would almost be expected. rims are nice, brakes are huge, and wheels are awesome. and that seperate under panel is a killer, hiding plenty of potential for exhaust and driveline details. if i could re-engineer this model, i would make full engine bay and driveline detail, turbos, intercooler and charge piping, full exhaust, and to keep it accurate, a clear underpanel like the one included, and a second grey-moulded panel with the optin to cut out "access panels" (regardless if they're there on 1:1) to show off said details. but thats just me. the nose panel leaves a lot to be imagined, with the grill identical in detail to revell's magnum grill with moulded mesh detail. suspension components leave a bit to the imagination, metal axel included for rear wheels, fronts are steerable, and much detail here is hidden and simplified due to that darn underpanel. i dont have the photo-etched detail set, but from what the instructions point out, those are included in the constructino steps, and the details they add will be subtle, but oh so very noticable on the finished model. typical decals and metal transfers also included. here's an initial mock-up of the body, suspension/brakes and wheels. sidewall on the tire appears thick, but i haven't really paid much attention. its in this post, third pic down: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13855
  22. im diggin this! just gotta get some nice wide tires to fill that rear fender and beefy up that view from the rear and you'll be golden! almost looks like it was meant to be that way!
  23. its the super rare, one-off R-34 Wagon! looks amazing. i'd almost wanna buy that off you when its done!
  24. Ok, pics are a little bad as i took them in a rush for a friend. will follow up with some friday night as i will have the house to myself after work for once! First up is a Tamiya 300zx, with the Veilside resin from another kit (forgot the name) that i acquired from ebay. front bumper not attatched yet cause there's still some trimming to do. also, swapped in an entire RB26 engine and front suspension from tamiya's R32 (later in this thread). Made some upgraded turbos and charge piping from .118" Solder wire. turbos are set, gotte be painted, but still trying to mock up the charge piping. Eventually, when its done, it'll be full charge piping from filter, turbo, intercooler then into the intake plenum. still thinking between a custom made/bent single path exhaust from the same solder wire with stock muffler and custom dual tip, or to a custom down pipe from the turbos to the stock cat, and stock exhaust from there back to the quad-tipped exhaust. (will show pics later with mock ups, i got work in 5 hours and STILL haven't slept!). interior will be stock, hood has a bulge/scoop to accomodate the turbos (will be an experiment in puddy to smooth it out) and color choice is still up in the air. Second is Castrol Tom's Supra from Tamiya. Nothin special here. just some 20" from Pegasus. gonna ditch the race interior for a street interior. still toying with the idea of actually putting the 2JZ motor in from one of my other supra kits. most likely gonna stick to curbside on this. Third, will be a box-stock Nissan GT-R. all body panels glued and mocked up on rims. I got 2 tamiya and one each of the aoshima regular and "premium edition" kits. one of the aoshima kits will be dropped a bit, and all will be on aftermarket rims, as nice as the stock nissan rims look. Here's the other one some members may remember, especially nickf40! the Skyline R32 mentioned above in my 300zx part. i suddenly found my skyline missing a motor, and got a crazy reverse-fast and the furious idea. The R32 now has the motor from revell's ShelbyGT500, a blower from an anonymous kit, slicks from a camaro kit (also revell) and the front tires from the Castrol Supra. raised rear end with barely enough clearance for the slicks. messing with getting/making fender flares to cover those meats. weed burner exhaust exiting under the doors, and stock spoiler in the back. possibly a wheelie bar and laundry bag on the rear end coming. inside gonna do it in full-race setup, with roll cage, single seat, fire extinguisher etc... im probably forgetting something, but i'll be updating later as i mentioned before. Flame suit on! all kinds of comments/criticisms welcome!! (new to scratch building, please dont be TOO gentle! especially if you have tips on scratching turbos)
  25. preordered 2 Tamiya, 2 Fujimi, and one each of the Aoshima kits. im gonna be broke in a month...
