  1. i didnt consider that. perhaps i'll do it yellow, and do one side in primer like it brushed the wall at the track or something, or take a swing and trying to replicate body damage and scraped up paint. hmmm... more possibilities just opened!
  2. i absolutely love the 3rd Gen RX-7 and your build MORE than represents the looks of the beast! thanks for posting!
  3. thanks for all the positive responces guys! i figured i'd get more flak from our GM friends, but i guess they dont even come in to look! lol. as for paint, im not too sure. the only idea i have is Yellow. for some reason, i cant picture this body style camaro in any other color. but, in keeping with the garage built/under cover theme im going for, i might go with just a blotchy grey primer with brush-painted black stripes on top or on the sides. not entirely sure.
  4. yes, mine was the MPC kit. it disgusted me. fortunately, its my first real attempt at a lowrider, so i was going more for the overall look as opposed to physical accuracy, so the wheels are just attatched to the chassis; no susp. modifications.
  5. wow, i figured the bag on the tibby should have deployed, that looks nasty. i had an 05 elantra gt hatch right out of high school. i was rear ended at about 60mph (i was doing about 5, making a right turn in a 35 zone) and my airbag went off. weird. good thing you didnt get the V6. i heard that to get to the cylinder bank facing the firewall required a motor pull, or partial motor pull, just to change spark plugs!
  6. Sam is my #2 favorite non-japanese drifter, only after Rhys Millen (Rhys is only first cause he's supposedly using Hyundai's Genesis Coupe soon, and i am a loyal hyundai fan, and grabbing a 2.0T Coupe R-Spec soon). Sam's Challenger will be one hell of a car to duplicate! the colors are AWESOME! i CANNOT wait to see some in progress pics! oh, and diymirage, soon you'll have a turbo for each engine of that thing! (it is a twin engine, right?)
  7. got the exhaust done. diameter is upped due to the higher performance engine. full exhaust, from the turbo to the tips, only used the tiny stock mufflers. 1/8" OD solder for the piping, and 1/8" ID aluminun tube for the tips. also cut off the horizontal bar across the front bumper. just increased airflow through the engine bay because two huge turbos make a lot of heat, and the intercoolers block about 80% of the radiator.
  8. looks great! i love how you did the exhaust, and the wheel design fits perfectly!
  9. hurry up with that SR20! i've been wanting one to put into another 240Z, but have been warry about ordering one as it would be my first experience with resin.
  10. hurry up with that SR20! i've been wanting one to put into another 240Z, but have been warry about ordering one as it would be my first experience with resin.
  11. that ram air option is where i got the idea! and... well, i think i can part with a snail or two if you need them. PM me if interested!
  12. i agree... granted ford has SOME decent looking cars, i think their engines are where they have excelled. and chevy... well, i just LOVE the designs of older chevys. so, mix the two, i say!
  13. in all honesty, it was a total pain. i hated how they did the interior, engine bay and engine, grille, incorrect tail lights (inner most areas should be clear reverse lights) and overall just thick, clunky plastic. even before it got mashed it was just going to be the chassis, interior, body and wheels. i only added the engine on my buddy's bet. i would never build this kit again... tho i MAY try trumpeter's version of this Monte.
  14. also did this just for laughs and to see the reaction. the same car show i went to that inspired me to do an RB swapped 240Z also sported TONS of 240Z's swapped with big and small block chevy motors. Not sure if anyone noticed my other WIP thread (at least no one has responded yet) i'm doing a 79 camaro with a custom twin turbo ford racing 427 motor. to my surpise, the beast fit into my little sub-compact sports car. the wieght of the engine is literally more than that of the car (the models, not the 1:1) but imagine an ~1000-1200 HP V8 (IMAGINE THE TORQUE!!) in a car this light! its opening up possibilities though, as i have one more 427 engine and dozens of pre-built turbos.... anyhow, its not staying like this... its just for laughs/reaction.
  15. UPDATE 06/08/09 Finished the intercooler and charge piping. its twin front-mount intercoolers attatched to look like a single front-mount. these do exist! i also realized i suck terribly at making my own headers, so i headed to my local plastic junkyard and fictionalized some that i found. its not perfectly symmetrical, but thats fine. as far as i know, giant TT 427's dont exist, and seeing as this would be representing a garage built car from scratch, i dont want it to be perfect. (thats just an excuse to cover for my lack of patience and attention to detail!)
  16. small update. move the filter into cooler air, and BOV moved. also added front strut and chassis braces and some bracing in the cabin (not pictured)
  17. i wouldnt count on it. though i would consider myself of above average skill in this hobby, im nowhere near as good as the majority on this forum!
  18. took your advice and added a cold air intake, and move the BOV closer to the intercooler. thanks for your advice!
  19. ok, so i built this Monte on a dare. i was going to do it in a three wheel like my buddies 1:1. he had the kid too, wanted an engine, andy kind, cause he messed up the kit one. i had an 05 mustang engine sitting around, gave that to him, and he dared me to top that. i think i did, you tell me. The story on this, and why its a vert/roadster. i had this mocked up in a three wheel, and in the process of re-arranging my room, i had a line of my built models on the floor on a wooden shelf. you can tell where this is going. i was putting together a new bookshelf, and one of the panels fell and landed flat on my monte. the roof was messed up beyond my repair capabilities. luckily, the VERY next day, i was craving some of jack in the box's awesome tacos, and on the way there, i saw a Red Pearl 1980 Monte Carlo with the roof chopped off and i loved it immediately. came home, cut it up, and went after my friends challenge to top his mustang powered low-low. i added a supercharger, as anyone can see, to another 05 mustang engine i had, did some surgery and took some creative license, especially with the side-exit exhaust. its not meant to be realistic, just a conversational piece on my shelf. as it was a bet, its nowhere near my normal build or paint qualities, but i still like it. this i think is definitely a culture bash more than a kit bash. i hope i dont offend anyone... or maybe i do!
  20. ok, its a late entry, and i didnt consider entering til now. i'd say its only about 20% complete, but i started it only about 2 weeks ago, so it was started after the buildoff did... i hope it counts!!! Ok, its Revell's 1969 Nissan 240Z. it should be fairly obvious that the 240Z is capable of drifing and its no doubt that the engine has been in countless high-dollar and garage built drift cars. My 240Z sports a highly modified RB26DETT engine refitted with a single large turbo, RB25 transmission (RWD not AWD), blow off valve, (was a recirc valve, but i hated how it looked), externally mounted waste gate, custom exhaust and muffler. estimated to be pushing 32psi and HP range in the 700-800 at the wheels. wheels are, i believe, from revells 1979 camaro Z28 on the 240Z kit tires. its lowered as much as physically possible. because of being lowered, i had to fudge the exhaust a little and "run it through the cabin" in order to not be dragging it on the ground. the engine i got for free from a user on hyperscale.com. this alone took almost a week to buil, until i decided to try again with different turbo locations as the intake piping was not allowing the hood to close. still not done with the engine as i still need to add an independant oil system, with oil cooler, dedicated to the turbo only, and a trans mission and rear diff cooler along with miscellaneous engine bay plumbing. The body needs a lot of work before going for paint. theres seam lines all over, and the "Datsun", "240Z" emblems and the antenna and misc. bumps are going to be sanded smooth. unsure of the color but the wheels will stay gold, and get a black wash to bring out the mesh detail. Its not the best scratchbuilt intercooler, but give me a break, its only my second build with HEAVY scratchbuilding. aaahhh.... just imagine it... 750whp on a 2000lb car with zero downforce... i love it!
  21. Ok, since the engine for this camaro is sitting in my drag strip supra, i had to use one of revell's engine parts packs. you know, the ALL CHROME engines anyways, the engine is built. almost this is revell's 79 camaro Z28 3n'1 and revell's 427 from their parts pack kit. the idea for this car is to be the ultimate drag strip sleeper. totally stock exterior and interior minus the big ol' meats in the rear. under the hood will be a twin turbocharged Ford 427cid motor motor is in stock form from the pats pack, but im in the process of making the headers, and planning the turbo locations, intercooler locations, and charge piping between it all. I customize the intake are of the motor, as it would not fit uner the hood with the carbs, so imagine this as a fuel injected conversion as well. used the parts back air filter thing and custom fabbed the intake for the boosted and cooled air. still working on the stance... im not sure if i want the rear wheels tucked in a little, of if i want the tail in the air. i love the look of a lowerd muscle car (but NOT with huge rims, nothing more tha 16's in 1:1). the point of this car is to use it to take the kids and wifey to church, after running it at the track the day before.
  22. im gonna say he used a pre-asssorted and packeged mix of plastic pieces, modeling cement, putty, sandpaper, paint, possibly primer, and a fair bit of patience. ha, im just kidding! good clean build. the '58 is next on my list of low-lows. im still working on my 'vert '80 monte carlo.
  23. absolutely GORGEOUS dash! the retro theme inside is awesome.
  24. they do fit, the 350z and G35 are bult on the same chassis, and 370 and G37 are based of those, and those four, plus the Z32 (300zx) all have a 5x114mm bolt pattern. the G series all have some beautiful rims. probably the best stock rims i've seen aside from the new GT-R and on of the newer model 350Z's rims. i've seen a Z around SD with G35 rims. i would have to look into the offset though. but regardless, at the moment i'm broke and the Z needs some TLC to get her back on the road again, so rims are last on the list.
  25. ok. I mentioned this one in a few of my previous posts. this is an Aoshima 2009 R35 GT-R. i have 3 GTR kits, one is done stock, one will be built modified, and this one is just all out crazy. I got a set of four slicks off ebay, and a bunch of the revell "parts pack" ford 427. the 427 in this is twin blown by two massive turbos, that would be between 15'' and 18'' across if in 1:1. turbo lag, anyone? its ok, its only plastic! I will be fabbing a roll cage, and doing minimal interior (basically the stock parts with only drivers seat). the holes in the fender ahead of the front wheels is where the exhaust will be coming out of, and the front grill is almost completely filled with an air-to-air intercooler, made from a part of an old CD jewel case as described in this website: (its in spanish i believe, but the pics are very self explanitory): http://usuarios.lycos.es/alfa147tuning/turbo.htm I know the engine is a bit rough, but it'll be a few months before this is done because i willl be dedicating most of my time to the other project i'll be showing here, and my cadillac lowrider which is almost done but have not posted pics for. Ok, without further delay, here's the few, poorly lit pics i have of the gtr: next is a tamiya Nismo 350Z cut up, gutted, and such. its really rough as im new to making body panels from styrene. the sheet i have now is way too thick to work with for this project, but im just cutting up pieces as templates. the engine is a 2JZ from a toyota supra twin turbo. The Z is now a rear engine, rear wheel drive porsche killer. Since my fabrication skills are still developing, the undersurface of the car still shows the stock front engine rear drive layout of the 350. that will be attended to once my skills have developed more, even if the body is done and i consider this project done. I considered throwing in some bigger-than-stock turbos, but space is really tight back there. for now its got stock sequential turbos with custom piping. 90% of the transmission has been ditched to get the block to sit transversally. it would have fit lengthwise but i like this way better, it makes it that much more odd. the hood area will be attended to as well. to make the car more aerodynamic, all the air passing through the radiator will be directed up and over the car, maximizing lower pressure under the car, much like the NSX. not sure if those are the ties i will be using. they dont fill the wheel wells as much as i'd like, but thats petty stuff compared to whats going on otherplaces... questions? comments? suggestions? im open to anything!
