I took part in a local television and movie prop show in July. These are people who actually make props for shows like 'The Flash' and others. They are wild about props. I brought out a selection of TV and movie model car kits and most of them had never seen any of the kits before. They were very interested in seeing them and I talked to several people who were interested in collecting them. From a vending point of view, I like new customers

Very nicely finished! A piece of trivia regarding the red paint...when they first started filming the movie, the car was as it left Ford. However, the car did not show well on film in the light colour, so they repainted it red. Jimmy Flintstone did a 1 piece body many years ago, a little thick in the side panels but it was easier for many people than gluing the various panels together.

What if Richard Petty had built a Superbird for Le Mans? I took this old JoHan kit that was missing a few pieces and built a simple LeMans car. The nose, tail and front fender vents are molded in, as per a photo from the Petty museum; I added in front and rear window braces, two seats (Le Mans rule), left the engine basically race stock with the original kit valve covers molded in Petty Blue, and the usual race stuff, painted it French Blue and there it is Nice simple, fun, build.

Historic Racing miniatures makes one, with engine, about $185. This car just doesn't have enough appeal to the average modeller for most companies to tool one up.You guys could buy a case each and that makes 10 cases. A decent run might be 25000 kits. I know, you are all thinking 'Model King runs 5000 kits'. True, but he uses existing molds, not new ones. Maybe if you all write to Revell or Tamiya or whomever, you might get somewhere

The NNL Nationals in Toledo have been the same weekend for a few decades, with one exception I drive about 5-6 hours to attend the NNL and it is worth it -

I know the Greg that was on the cover of SAE many years ago, the fire truck building guy. We have known each other for decades ...but we are not old -

This is the 22nd year for Autofest and it is a great show! All types of vehicles from hot rods to muscle to antiques and lots more, well over 1000 in total. I took a few photos Friday during setup and lots more yesterday, with a few more to follow later today. Follow the link and have fun http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/autofest-2015/

This is an older kit that I got from Bob Dudek. He started the bodywork, filled in all the nooks and crannies, then handed it to me. I assembled the chassis, engine and other bits then off to the paint booth. I used all tamiya colours starting with primer, then painted the engine Blue Violet, chassis is French Blue, body is Bright Orange. Still lots to do from painting the plastic tires to adding all the finishing bits

I sold a 20th Econoline a few months ago, mint in the box, $50, at a local show. I had it listed for more money and had no offers. The market in this area is weak, as far as collectors prices go. Even still, the original model was not popular, sold very poorly.

Have you tried asking Modelhaus how long it will take? They are the source, so ask them

That is the definition of a vendor, 'separating you from your money I have a new line of products in stock (Scale Motorsport) and two more product lines on the way.

Cars of American Graffiti
Howard Cohen replied to MGL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To build models from the movie, you may want to start with the series 'American Graffiti' If you want to build every car in the movie, you will need to build a few hundred -
I have seen Paul's work online for several years and it is quite common for his builds to go for more than double this sale.He builds unusual or rare subject matter, has exquisite finishes, excellent details and never seems to build the same model twice, thereby insuring a solid (and apparently wealthy) following. There have been a few others in the past who have done similar types of builds for similar money but Paul seems to be the only one still building. Any one of his builds would command a prime space in a museum.

This is one of my favourite shows of the year. The concours started out many years ago with superb antique and classic cars. Over the years they have added hot rods, race cars, motorcycles, customs and muscle and more, all in one place on one day. There were about 240 vehicles and the 6 plus hours I spent were not enough to see and photograph every vehicle. I only took a few hundred photos but that should be enough to whet your appetite http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/concours-of-america-2015/

Here is another car from the collection, a home built version of Bill Cushenbery's El Matador, fair body work for the late 1960s.

Like vitamins, you get 1 a day Until the weekend when I am away

From the same collection, this Alexander Bros. creation started out as a Craftsman Series kit and was built in the late 1960s. The usual quality of bodywork on a unique model. I have seem other builds of this car in the past few years, so it is popular.
