  1. I have never seen a kit of 999 but I know of one that was scratchbuilt for the 100 years of Ford...not mine and no photos
  2. Sunday, December 6, International Center, 6900 Airport Road, 10AM to about 3PM. All types of vendors selling car parts, paper items, models, whatever automotive I will be vending books, magazines, models and other odds and ends. Cash only...there is NO atm in the building.
  3. When I was born my Dad had a '49 Dodge, which he used to tell me he won in a poker game for a dollar Our next car was a '57 Plymouth, which met a sad end. Driving out of Montreal in '58, the car hit a bad bump, the transmission shifted into reverse while we were going forward and that was it A few days later Dad showed up with a 2-tone green '58 Biscayne. That was followed by a '59 Impala, a '63 Buick LeSabre, a '68 Biscayne (which I drove), a '74 Mercury, a '78 Chevy ( my Dad complained the high beams didn't work until I showed him the switch was on the stalk, not the floor ) and then an '84 K-car, the last car he had when he passed away. My first car was a '65 Corvair, followed by a '72 Fiat 128, a '74 Fiat 128 that I rallied for 5 years, a '75 Nova ex-cop car (lots of top end), '80 Impala, '89 Nissan Sentra, '91 Dodge Spirit company car, '95 Caravan company vehicle, '99 Concorde company vehicle that I bought, '02 Impala and my current ride, '04 Buick Regal. I also drove several other cars including some race cars, rally cars, show cars, hot rods, etc. The most famous of all the cars I drove was this single seater Dodge This thing just would not idle smoothly, it rumbled and shook and didn't even have a radio My friend Gerry bought it from Austin and we toured it on the show car circuit in Ontario and Quebec before Gerry took it to Europe.
  4. '...as God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly...'
  5. Historic Racing Miniatures make a resin Rochester FI unit and it is great! Excellent detail! If you want a realistic FI unit, get one and make tour engine look real (oh, the price on this package is in Canada)
  6. Get IRFANVIEW for editing photos, it's free, it's easy and it works
  7. Yes, the early shrink wrap was very brittle, cracked easily and came apart often.
  8. There are tire manufacturers who will put any name on a tire if you buy enough quantity You probably have to buy several thousand in one size to get 'Model Cars Magazine' on a tire
  9. Who put the magnet in the tree? If I told you once, I told you a million times, you can't mate a car with a tree Never read Model Cars Mag when you are driving Your dog was driving? No, a car cannot be a tree hugger
  10. Here is a link to the page from Coffin Corner, the show rod center for show rod nerds http://www.showrods.com/showrod_pages/horn_toad.html
  11. I dipped a 60 Desoto this week and not only did the paint come off, many of the glued parts came off as well.
  12. Being an old Fiat guy, I was looking forward to something even more sporty looking. I hope this car gets into the racing community real soon after it hits the showrooms. I also hope they add a coupe
  13. This is another car that was toured in Europe by my friend Gerry Nimz (see Beer Barrel car). Somewhere I have a colour photo of it. I wonder if it was in the same collection as the other show cars. I see what I can find out.
  14. Sidebar...many years ago I read a book about Mickey and his early runs at Bonneville. He had trouble with the front suspension bending or breaking when he hit a small crease in the salt. Apparently at 200MPH when the tire comes off the ground a half inch or so, it takes almost 300 feet before the suspension can work and stabilize the car and when it lands, ouch . Mickey decided to try a block of wood firmly attached in place of the shocks so there would be no give. The next run the car stayed planted on the salt when he hit the crease and there was no damage. From there he worked on a new front suspension. Another home grown genius
  15. Academy may have the molds if they did the original molding work for Accurate Miniatures. Academy does a lot of molding for other companies including Italeri and Fujimi. I have built some Academy models for people and the package often has the name of another company.
  16. That is a very early James Bond car as evidenced by the 2 license plates...no cops in the photo, just spies and secret agents disguised as everyday people. The car has the special issue tire chains used only by Bond and the adjustable radiator cover FYI...this photo was taken in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada at the onset of 'Camp X'...ssshhh
  17. In 1963 I attended the custom car show in Montreal where there was a 'Revell-Testors' make & take. I chose the Revell Attempt 1 because it had a trailer and a parachute. I was also given some Testors paint, glue and brushes to use to build the model.I sat there for an hour, my Father standing there wondering what was happening (he wasn't a car guy but he enjoyed watching me build). After an hour they told me my time was up but that I could take everything home with me. I was in awe! Part of the 'Revell-Testors' display included built models from the Revell catalog and a display of Testors paints. I didn't finish the model at the show but I did finish it when I got home. Over the years the model was severely damaged (maybe too much glue) When the kit was re-issued, I bought a new one with the intention of re-building my old one. It is in the stash pile The old kit has disappeared but I still have the trailer Yes, the parts in this kit are excellent for building a mid-60s rail or hot rod or Bonneville car
  18. Whether he built them or not, George was the biggest promoter of custom cars! He loved cars of all types. I worked with George at Performance World Car Show in Toronto a few times and chatted with him at other shows. He loved model cars! We had a display one year at Performance World and he walked by, stopped to look at the models, spent about 30 minutes visiting, told a few stories, was late for an interview and came back later to chat. Yes, he had his flaws (don't we all), he had spats with other builders but he did promote the heck out of the custom car and model car hobbies. The last time we chatted was this past June in London at the Fleetwood Cruise. RIP George
  19. For those of us coming from this part of Ontario, the Detroit show is closer but distance is not really a concern I have at least 2 fresh builds since last month and I may get another one done. If you have not been to this show, it is worth the drive
  20. There are several of us coming in from the Toronto area for the day, maybe 2 car loads I have at least 1 new car ready and maybe 2
  21. 'It's too far' 'I have a headache' 'My toe hurts' 'I wanna watch football' 'I don't want to travel alone' 'My car gets poor mileage' None of these cheap excuses will work! Get off your lazy butt and get to the NNL and enjoy yourself! Don't make us come and drag you by the.....
