  1. I have used the C1 Metalizer powder and it adds a very realistic metal finish, working better on dark colours. The Batpod is C1 over the black plastic and I like the finish.
  2. I have tried Molotow sprays since December and read all the talk about the 'chrome' pens. 1st - it is ink, as Molotow says on their website, so treat it as ink 2nd - it is not chrome plating, so don't expect chrome plating 3rd - I still prefer BMF. I was lucky to learn how to use BMF 40 years ago and I am pretty good with it. The chrome pen will get tested but I will not use it to replace BMF. Ink cannot replace metal 4th - attached you will see a body I used for testing Molotow spray paints. The 'Burner Chrome' is a large spray can and the lady in the store said the 'burner' refers to the size, not the effect. It sprayed bright silver. Clear coating made it less bright (right side of car). The reason being the clear covers the silver/metallic particles and reduces the reflective effect (so I was told by Molotow Germany). I tried Tamiya fine white primer and also tried spraying a base coat of clear and then the 'chrome' spray and the effect is the same, bright silver Like so many other modelling items, this is another tool and not the saviour of your modelling world
  3. http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/detroit-autorama-2017/ For those who are interested in the Ridler Award (best first time shown car/truck) Here are the Pirelli Great 8 The winner was 'Renaissance', the pearl/candy/red 33ish coupe. If these photos are not enough, there is the rest of the show with another 1000 plus at the link
  4. This show is running all week in Toronto, Ontario and is a huge draw for car enthusiasts of all types. Sure, there are lots of new cars but my favourites are the many vintage cars at the show. I am a volunteer with the 'Art and the Automobile' exhibit with over a dozen vintage cars dating back to 1967, including the GM Buick Le Sabre show car of 1951. To celebrate 50 years of F1 racing in Canada there is a display of vintage F1 cars as well as some excellent vintage racing Ferraris Follow the link to see my photos from yesterday. http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/canadian-internatio-3/
  5. Easy to recognize that car as it has been online a few times...unusual for it's background
  6. I am now building the Tony Nancy Roadster...working on the engine with parts from the 1963 kit and 1991 kit...engine is assembled and coated with C1 Metalizer powder, sitting on a pair of scissor grips
  7. I finished the dragster a few days ago and took some photos today, using my new compact flash. Yes, the body panels are BMF, my version of aluminum...wait, it is aluminum I started with a 1963 kit and used parts from the 1991 kit to complete it. The decals went on the BMF quite well as I trimmed them close. For a 50 year old kit, it was a good build. Yes, the body panels come off, they are just resting there
  8. I had a 65 Corvair when I was in college, baby blue, 110HP, dash shifter It looked just like my model
  9. Here are the 2 Corvair resin bodies that Steve Martin was talking about. They are from Time Machine Resin.
  10. I used less than 1 sheet. The chassis pan is 1 piece, as well as the nose piece and cowl. The drivers cover was 3 pieces and 2 small patches. It took about 2 hours. I am going to use some BMF polish next.
  11. I am working on the Tony Nancy Dragster, combining the 1963 kit with the 1991 kit, using as many old parts as possible, and filling in with the newer (now 26 years old) kit. I decided I didn't feel like painting, so I covered the body panels in Bare Metal Foil. I am so lazy This will be followed by the Roadster as I like the older red plastic better than the newer silver plastic.
  12. I did this one last year, my version of a prototype 'what-if' car...what if you dropped in an Allison, added Richard Carroll tires, a rear wing, cut down windscreen It doesn't have to run, it doesn't even need detailing stuff, it's a prototype
  13. There was a photo-etch accessory kit on the market a couple of years ago with lots of neat parts including hinges for the doors.
  14. Yup, this is model / car related
  15. It's a plastic model car, the engine will never work
  16. I have used Tamiya Fine White Primer on both red and yellow molded plastic and never had any problems.
  17. That is BEAUTIFUL! Very impressive! How did you make the headlights and windows? They look very real.
  18. I just picked up the GTO Street Funny, very good condition, a few parts off the trees, seems complete with decals...now, what to do with it
  19. I had a great time at the NNL Motor City 12 yesterday! A very large crowd filled the hall, the NNL tables were well stocked and the vendors very busy. I did buy a few things and displayed some models I saw lots of old friends and some new ones as this crowd was very model friendly Here are my photos of some very good models In the vendors area I saw a Monogram 8th scale Corvette dealer display that I have never seen before, an outstanding historical display. And I bought this 16th scale Danbury Mint Cord L29 There were some people there you may recognize And the drag racing was tons of fun to watch as these cars hit a real 49MPH and more in the scale 1/4 mile http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/nnl-motor-city-12/
  20. BFH...Big Friggen Hammer...i removed the locator pins and they fit
  21. A lot of this '3D printed' talk reminds me of what happened in the past in the model car hobby: In the late 70s, it was 'Wow, Bare Metal Foil', now I can finish all those projects I have!' Followed by Modelhaus (and many others) resin parts and, 'Wow, now I can finish all those projects I have!' Then it was custom made decals from Fred Cady, 'Wow, now I can finish all those projects I have!' Next came photo-etch parts, 'Wow, now I can finish all those projects I have!' Followed by custom chroming from various sources, 'Wow, now I can finish all those projects I have!' Then there are the many re-issues allowing people to buy their fill of kits they had when they were younger, 'Wow, now I can finish all those projects I have!' Is there a pattern here? Yup, sure is...and we are all doing the same thing Make sure you don't get carried away with 3D printing with all the possibilities because history has shown we all buy more than we can build in a few lifetimes, whether we want to believe it or not
  22. Those 'round things' are not hubcaps, they are the tops of air cleaners Notice they are beside the oil filters Have any of you ever done an oil change or air filter change on a car from the 50s or 60s?
  23. Chassis and body are done What if I owned the C7R? What if it was built by Chaparral Cars? Hmmm... This is a great kit and I need another one
  24. Wow! I like that! Very well done!
  25. My fantasy build is coming along I have the chassis/interior under construction, painted silver and blue, with a few touches of black, the dash matching the body, my version of 'Frigidaire White' from 1966. There are a few little adjustments needed when building the car but so far, most of the parts fit well. I removed the aluminum valve covers when I realized they are hidden by the air cleaner assembly, replaced them with the kit units.
