  1. I got this kit at the NNL Nationals in Sylvania, Ohio a few weeks ago after anxiously awaiting it since I saw the preview at NNL East in April. I have been a Corvette fan and a big time sports car race fan for decades and this kit really got me excited! The box art is excellent! The instructions are easy to follow. The detail on the kit from the body to the engine are all very good as is the interior. The only bad point is the metal axles, similar to the 60s, right through the engine but I have replaced them with stub axles. The engine is stock with added machined aluminum valve covers. I am building this a little different than the box art as this will be a 'what if I owned and drove the car' build On a scale of 100, I give this kit a 95
  2. That looks great! I have one under construction and hit a small wall The engine does not fit under the hood and I can't get the exhaust pipes to fit from the hood to the fenders I'll get back to it soon with yours as an incentive Thanks for sharing
  3. This is a new race car show in southern Ontario aimed at vintage racing in all facets, enjoy http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/yesterdays-speedways/
  4. Here are a few photos I took...in case you want to see a few more model photos http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/nnl-nationals-2016-/
  5. As part of my NNL Nationals weekend, I spent Friday in Auburn, Indiana at the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum and the NATMUS, National Auto Truck Museum. They are side by side but the buildings are so different it is hard to imagine they are from the same era and the same original company The A-C-D Museum is all Art Deco and the Natmus is more like a cement floor warehouse. Both are enjoyable to see and if you go see one, make sure you see the other I hope you enjoy my photos http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/auburn-cord-duesenb1/
  6. Every one of these models is of museum quality! At a concours event, each one would be a 100 point car! The details, from the open gas filler cover on the 250 TR to the perfect wiring add to the ear plugs on the driver add to the absolutely perfect finish on each car! Merci mon ami pour les plus belles autos!
  7. I started with the Revell snap kit...but I have wondered what the Mustang would be like as a mid-engine car...hmmm I took the AMT/Johnny Lightning 2005 Ford GT and checked the wheelbase...almost identical I assembled the Ford GT chassis complete with interior and slid it under the Mustang body and it was very close. I did have to do some fitting and some sanding around the rear wheel wells but the Ford GT chassis fit under the Mustang and I added a small roll bar on top of the engine bay firewall. I also opened up the area where the rear license plate was to bring the exhaust pipes straight out and leveled the front spoiler from the Ford GT to meet the Mustang body. I may do a repair on the dash to bring it to the windshield but other than that, it's very close A quick build required some quick paint, Tamiya white and some black stripes.
  8. I have been waiting for this kit since the stock snap kit was released Not enough detail? Good, add your own from the mountains of extra parts in the aftermarket or scratch build your own Want a clean shelf model? Good, right out of the box Want to build a fantasy Corvette with you as the driver? Go ahead Which ever way you build it, just build it I need at least three
  9. Try to find a display case large enough to hold a football. That will allow you plenty of space to display the model box without crushing it. The acrylic cases are much clearer than the styrene ones made by AMT and JoHan, are a bit more scratch resistant and show much better.
  10. VRM makes historic racing decals: the early Corvettes are excellent! http://www.v-r-m.com/
  11. Several years ago I went to look at a model collection north of Toronto. As I came around the corner, I saw this in the driveway and knew which house I was going to without looking at the number The lady told me it was her late husband's car and he had inherited it from his uncle who bought it new As I left, she drove the car away as it was going to a new owner (drat, not me )
  12. Super glues are meant to air dry, so every time you open the tube/bottle/whatever, a bit of air gets in and starts the drying process. I have several large bottles and recently found they dry out. I switched to small tubes of Gorilla Super Glue.
  13. The Cobble Beach Concours just completed its 4th show and it has grown rapidly and successfully, with cars, motorcycles and boats from all over North America, including 10 provinces and 14 states The show is held at Cobble Beach Golf Course and Community (some great houses there) backing onto Georgian Bay, a gorgeous setting, about 2 hours northwest of Toronto. Saturday there was a driving tour around the Bruce Peninsula, about 100K (62 Miles) and yes, they drove in the rain Sunday the cars arrived at the site starting at 5:30AM...I got there about 6AM The Brack Hill Climb is a new event and ran at Inglis Fall, on the south side of Owen Sound, about 20 minutes from the Concours. There were over 40 cars registered, they had a show in downtown Owen Sound Friday evening, with a police escort and most of them ran Saturday...in the rain Enjoy...and if you are in the area next year, drop in, it's worth it http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/cobble-beach-concou2/
  14. Is it necessary to remind other model builders and collectors that many of the people who make and sell parts and kits at shows and by mail do so in their spare time? Few of us are full time vendors or manufacturers. Even those that are often get caught up in orders and life and cannot do what everyone wants, example Modelhaus. It becomes necessary to have some control over the business rather than the other way around. Steve does not live just for modellers, nor does anyone else. We all have lives outside the hobby, and it is still a hobby, right Not everyone can get to a show to buy in person and not every vendor can get to every show to sell. Somewhere in the middle is a compromise Steve has a chosen field of sales and it works for him. I have been selling in Ontario, Canada for a few years and have found what works best for me. I cannot please everyone. I only sell in Canada by agreement with my suppliers, not Australia or Europe or the U.S. I can live with that Remember, it is a fun hobby, don't take the fun out of it
  15. All the tires are the same size
  16. Monogram Cherry Bomb, out of box body, Tamiya Pearl Clear and Clear, Richard Carroll small tires, parts box wheels, headlights from Little T
  17. We did a club theme about car songs about 35 years ago and came up with over 200 songs! How many models will you build
  18. I do have another kit, so I may do a second body, paint the yellow first, let it cure for a year (that seems to be the norm), then paint the blue, clear coat, then decals. It has been sitting for about 3 years now, so it must be a priority
  19. I am working on the Camaro, Ron Fellows version, but the yellow decals are very poor, don't cover the blue paint and the fit is not good. I bought a second kit just for the decals. The kit does go together well, fit and finish are excellent as is the detail.
  20. Pro Tech also makes generic street rod gauges, both decals and photo-etch bezels in different colours.
  21. Yes, there are 1:1 car museums that have a model display including the Indy Museum that has a display of Indy cars. In Essex, Ontario, Canada, there is the Transportation Museum that has a display of model cars, not very extensive, from a former hobby store where the owner passed away and left the models to the museum. The Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada has a stash of model cars but no space to display them. They are renovating the museum (a 10 year plan) and hope to have space in the future. There is a military museum in Ontario that inherited a model car collection of about 1000 pieces in 2008. I happened to see the collection before it went to the museum and take a few photos. I have contacted the museum and they told me the collection is stored until they can find space for it and sort through it. Yes, I volunteered but they don't take outside help. http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/collection-hanover-2008/ As for the museum in Utah, it seems to be only open a few days every two years, so highly doubtful you will get to see it. I know of a few people who tried to make an appointment to see it, only to show up and find the door locked Yes, we do need more model museums but where, by whom and this hobby would have to support it and that is a tall order
