  1. A few years ago, on a custom car site, one of the guys cried the blues about his sick daughter and the fact that he would have to sell his entire model collection just to buy medicine. They felt so bad they did a fundraiser for him. They raised a lot of money, several thousand dollars I think. A few weeks after getting the money, he was caught buying a very expensive kit on Ebay, caught because he was buying it from one of the guys that gave him money! A friend of mine, who knows him, told me he doesn't have a daughter. He has not been back to the site since. Hmmm... His nickname was 'doctor something'
  2. I have found that themes at NNLs or contests work better when the theme is displayed on its own. I have been to some events where the theme builds are mixed in with other classes and they are hidden, so no one really sees them. I.E. - if your theme is Chevy, have a separate spot for them rather than mixing them with street, drag, custom, etc. One of the best themes I ever saw was at NNL East when they did Hollywood Cars, filled up the tables so fast, it was amazing! I always liked the theme, 'Cars in Music' as there are over 200 songs with cars in them (we did a count many years ago) and you can use lots of kits

  4. What happened to the 'NEW CONTENT' icon on the top of the page?
  5. I had made a suggestion to Revell for a 2017 Corvette Callaway with SC757, big block supercharged engine, full body kit, AeroWagen option
  6. Excellent build! I also have one and recently started polishing the body to prepare it for paint. After reading about your build, I will do it differently than O planned. Did you make the wheels yourself or is there some company that makes them? Thanks for sharing your great car!
  7. I say 'NO' to selling here! This is a forum for builders. As others have said, there are lots of model selling groups on Facebook and you can easily join in.
  8. Tom - did you go thinking it was a story about Harrison using an X-Acto 'blade' to build a model Ford If so, you was robbed
  9. Is that the fine smooth finish or the more grainy? What are you planning for the windows? Do you have a price point? Will you be selling it directly and will you ship to Canada?
  10. The real problem with acetate is that it is full of tiny air bubbles. After some time, the air escapes, the remaining acetate fills the space causing warpage and shrinkage. If you bought a new acetate promo in the 50s/60s and sprayed it with some sort of clear sealer, the air would not escape and the body would be straight. Have you noticed that all the chrome is okay? That is because the chrome plating covered the acetate and stopped the air from escaping. This is the explanation I got many years ago from a friend who was told this by John Hanle.
  11. I have read a few books written by stylists and there are reasons they use chrome. First, to be flashy as that is what many people in North America have always wanted, maybe not you but more do than don't. Second, in the 50s, chrome was used around the windows to give the feeling of larger windows. Third, chrome was used on many windows to cover up the rubber and adhesive used to hold the glass in place. Fourth, chrome is used to accent body lines. Okay, so you don't like it but you may be in the minority
  12. I use Super Clean to remove paint from windows, works well
  13. That is very well done! There was one done in a larger scale, 1/43rd, by a small private builder many years ago and only as a finished truck. I have seen the real truck and it is quite special
  14. If you mailed him the money, does that not constitute 'mail fraud'? Go to the post office and ask them to get your money back FYI..as Bill said, this has been happening for several years
  15. On the way to Toledo for the NNL I stopped at the Crawford Collection Auto Museum in Cleveland, a very good museum with some interesting cars and a few planes The museum also has some historical displays about Cleveland...and a working carousel (video included in photo album)! Follow the links to both my albums and enjoy yourselves Although the attendance was fair, the quality of the builds and the camaraderie was very high! Hard to beat a day of good modelling friends P.S. this plane was my favourite in the museum...it is called the Howard, really http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/crawford-auto-museum/ http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/nnl-nationals-2017-/
  16. That looks good! Remember, the molds for that kit were first made in 1962, so the detail is from 1962 and I don't think the molds were ever updated
  17. The NNL Nationals are next Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio. I will be arriving in Toledo at the Red Roof Inn on South Reynolds Friday afternoon. If you are staying at the same motel, why don't we have a Friday Evening Open Door Gathering? Leave your door open, your blinds open, maybe a sign in the window and welcome your fellow hobbyists in for a model car chat. No politics, I am Canadian It could be a fun evening of meeting people and catching up with friends. See you there.
  18. I knew Ross for many years. There are no plans for the engines to be produced.
  19. My favourite calls are the ones from the IRS telling me that my taxes are due and they want my credit card...I live in Canada, the IRS doesn't work here Sometimes I press '1' then when the operator comes online I use my air horn ! Today I answered 'city jail', then waited...
  20. 70 years of Ferrari...hmmm...photos and judges at work
  21. The Marcos drove to the show from Maryland on Friday, about 13 hours. Saturday it went on the driving tour around Georgian Bay, about 100Kilometers/62 Miles. It ran flawlessly!
  22. Mine was the same. I thought it might be an easy fix but it is broken in 3 places, center of the horizontal bar and both A pillars. I sent in a request and I am waiting patiently...this may be a slow fix until they get new bodies
  23. A side story...you can see the Pontiac Ambulance above. It is part of a group of owners called 'The Coasters' that drove across Canada this year and does every few years. They started in British Columbia on the west coast, drove to Newfoundland and are in the process of driving back to B.C. During their trip, they stop and visit various car collections and shows. The owner of the Ambulance was awarded the 'Canadian Car Hobby Person of the Year' for his long time support of the car hobby.
  24. Hi Tom - that car is a one-off Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Pininfarina Cabriolet Speciale. It was custom built after WW2. Pininfarina was refused entry to the 1946 Paris Auto Show because he was from Italy. In defiance, he took the car to the Paris Auto Show and parked it outside at the front door. This car won Best of Show plus a few other awards at the show. It was restored by 'The Guild' in Bradford, Ontario. Thanks for your inquiry.
  25. The 5th Annual Cobble Beach Concours was held this past weekend at the Cobble Beach Golf Club, 10 minutes north of Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. Saturday morning started with about 100 cars taking a driving tour around Georgian Bay. While these cars were out, a Cars & Coffee event started, with another 100 plus cars. The main event, the Concours was Sunday, with more than 100 classic cars and motorcycles on display. FYI...all the cars were driven to the course and to win your class, your vehicle had to be driven across the awards stand, so yes, they do run Classes run from vintage race cars to motorcycles, brass era to muscle. Follow the link to my photo and video page, enjoy http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/cobble-beach-concou-1/
