  1. looks good so far, i shortened a monogram cab years ago to make my actual F150. that was a nightmare initself relook at the top of your model, i saw from the pictures, the seam/difference right away, if you enter it in a contest the expierienced judges will pick it out real fast. primer shows and helps guide you, paint when shot "ENHANCES" any mistakes i found that when i sand to use a sanding sponge block, and soapy water , i usually use water and dawn, it gives the wet sand, and the oily slide at same time, and works well good luck bill d
  2. as a former windows NT ADMIN, let me say and hopefully make it simply the system gives any applicant a generic set of "privledges" admins, the owner, and moderators have the advanced controls shown to them, and only them, and that happens at the dicreation of the powers to be. every one is granted or denied privledges, similar to life, skill, and trust and duration obviously reward you with the ability to be a moderator, which at that point you have more controls then the generic person. the system has to approve changes, and if it doesnt, you are locked out of your access's under new name till it is recognized and connected to you hope this expalins "geek" bill
  3. ....... I could be wrong, but i thought i read where gregg recently said enough. No matter what we do, we have to re-read our posts as to not offend someone..... I can understand this, I wasn't the one whio started the tyraid in question, but i slipped, and have now had my hand smacked for it....... ...... so with that said, lets move past it, realize and accept we are dealing with a public forum, and gregg needs it to be relatively clean, in short lets just use common sense vs. talking with the guys at clubhouse, or on street corner. ...... as for words used since we moved out of parents house, yes i agree, my thirteen yr old has a vocabulary that when he slipped once, i glared at him, and he covered his mouth so fast and apologized he knew he had done wrong...... then his mother tried to tell me the rules of disciplining son, and washing his mouth with soap as the NUNS in parochial school had done to me when i was younger then him.... and then of course the smack and foot from my father was far worse when i got home that night, oh did it hurt and as we have junior modelers here, gregg is right, so guys i say again common sense please, and lets not dwell on this to avoid getting gregg upset bill d64
  4. Recently the below animal tested my nerves with knocking a model into paint thinner that i rescued quickly, and was fortunate that it only ruined testors white, and not plastic, as it was sealed with Vari-PRime primer from Dupont.... my credibility was tested about this, think these pictures prove cat likes the spray booth?? any suggestions about how to paint a cat? yes he is testing his nine lives but my son loves him...... yes he is an acquired indepent taste billd
  5. wow where did you find crane to add, id love to add something like that to a mack r model as for finishing, why not collapse the crane, slide the fith wheel back, and make it a delivery tractor?? ive seen prefab housing contractors, not modulars but panel houses use cranes on tractors maybe remove 5th wheel and make a stake bed with boom? or a utility body for a sign or an electric company?? our current electric company use to have similar truck with crane on it, they sold it at auction, local guy bought it, utility body, and now hangs signs with it for neon sign company bill d
  6. HI folks; I need help please. Among the projects I have on my table are two AMT SCHLITZ Funny Car, that was a sister model to the Budweiser Funny car that came with Ford Louisville Transporter. I need tires for both kits, I know several of you have tried to steer me towrds tires or believed kits for tires, sadly here is my dilemma, Im trying to keep them box stock for entry in IPMS Modeler SHows, furthermore I've bought several of the discontinued kits from vendors either at shows or ebay, or like this weekend, bought tires was assured they were right only to have them be wrong again.... Guys I have a picture of the old two piece slick if its needed..... can those of you that have parts boxes with tires please look, i really could use help here Bill D.
  7. ive seen several of these offered by evergreen, and y a company called plastistruct years ago. there has been other companies that offer scale plastic for engineers to use for build-ups.... the alwo was a race car, i forget which one years ago that had a wheel horse tractor in the kit with it, i forget if that was a briggs or tecumseh motor bill d
  8. wow, after reading your posts, id like to get a copy of that tutorial, but id also like to suggest that you look into bare metal foil. I looked into it years ago, and found BMF, a "brand new #11" blade, and some q-tips can do a great job of trim vs. spilling paint or errors that ruin paint. you just need a light touch with the blade so as to not ruin foil or underneath paint as you will be peeling of the rest of the foil, it does a great job. I had a few problems wth the black versionof BMF, but over time they got the formula right like they did the chrome. it can also be used to seperate two tone / multi color paint jobs with little to no ridge when you pull it off, and the small ridge that is there can be buffed out quick with a polishing kit. You can also wax the model after foil applied, and you can clearcoat over the foila s well good luck billd
  9. A quick tidbit of help. Several years ago, a fellow modeler was building a petty car anyway vinny was lazy about researching and whining about color not matching. SO I dialed information, got the number petty enterprises and called. explained to richard him self what i was doing, and in 30 mins he had a man from the paintshop call me with the paint chip code, and the color primer code, and from what vendor that year.... only 1 catch..... had to send a few pictures of the model. Following month I gave Vinny all this info, 3 months later he won a bunch of trophies with it, and published in scale auto enthusiast, needless to say a copy of mag and several pictures went to petty Im sure if you called for Elliott info you could get all the pictures/answers you needed. and yes Nascar is a religion, as is baseball, especailly if the Yankees are in the world series. I know I wanted a birthday autograph for my son, of Dale Jr, called Kannoplis, and they got me to kelli his sister, and she got my son hs picture in time for his birthday.... my son and I have had issues, but that picture hangs in his bmothers house, and for just that item, I am a god, as I got him his fav driver., for everything else, i'm just his dad. good luck, call the race teams, they help, there help makes your model more interesting and accurate as well bill d.
  10. HI.... well the way i was taught to do it, was measure from center of what is assumed to be squared front axle cap to the center of the last axle again to the cap, sometimes where trailer hubometer is located. usually works best with 2 or so peole, and a 100' tape meausre remember measure several times for accuracy, then you ony have to cut the wood, or in this case the plastic once to have an accurate working measurement. bill d.
  11. thanks; i have been told that, but the kit was a limited run kit, and im looking for just the tires and rims to it, not a whole kits, i would like to finish the kits i have now I have two AMT SCHLITZ funny cars, both bought on ebay, and ,arked as sealed kits but not when i got them, hence missing parts bill d.
  12. sure make me start looking for my scale ruler again, and try matching it to SAE geez you want a lot from a guy for a silly project..... yet adding 13 scale feet may be easier then fixing a leak on my GMC Jimmy that i cant find this week, and here i thought i was going to relax this weekend and work on primer painting this weekend. How is the mail and envelopes going? bill d.

  17. thats because your in texas .......NY CVS looked at me as if i was crazy about the item let alone the price what finish you removing on the model?? wash it in dawn then paint it.... if rebuilding, let it soak in DOT 3 brake fluid a few days takes paint off ive had minimal issues with krazing bill d

  19. the air bags in rear confuse me are they right? i'm used to tandems those bags look out of place, but nice job, did the reissue come with round tanks or from another kit? bill
  20. when i have clear coated after sanding paint with millenium polish grits from 4K or 6K to 12K, i wash it off thoroughly in dawn dish detergent, air dry, then clear a week or so to dry, as it dries from inside out. then I would BMF. I would wash the model down, allow dry time, and then BMF with fresh no.11 blade and patience, and Q-Tips. good luck bill
  21. almost any paint jobber can get evercoat, or the generic thereof. my problem is my jobber has 6 types so i have no idea what to use though i ve been given several opinions. I havent ventured for it yet, maybe next model, as this current project is finishing up my supply of white modeling putty. from the big tub, to using putty glaze icing as its thinner... my local supplier wont drop ship UPS or USPS, as its too costly, plus then need to mark as a hazardous material, and cost skyrockets. look in phone book for local auto paint jobber advanced auto, and other chains dont do it bill in ny
  22. I think iwata or badger makes a bottle with a filter assembly. I used my friends Iwata the other day, Learned cup use, as i usually spart with paasche /bottle. and I use vari-prime primer as my primer base for any paint after wards. I use paint gun gleaner for all three of mine, I bought it from my jobber. its stronger then needed sometimes, but im certain that my gun is clean when i take all my pieces out of cleaner and drain to dry. I had an issue recently, and found i put a gun down, and never cleaned it, normally they are cleaned after every use, or color change to avid a contamination of colors. like dark debris with a light color. my air brushes/touch up spray guns, are cleaned as my real guns are cleaned totally stripped, cleaned/re-assembled, friends and boss at work laugh, but my gun always works. I have tupperware butter container of both wire and wireless pipe cleaners to clean tubes and o rings etc. You may want to look into a key ring of welding tip cleaner brushes they are awesome to clean my paasche pieces internally bill model tools work at work, and work tools work with model building
  23. Ive used brake Kleen, stinks, but apears to work better and no residue
  24. thanks for th elink, gonna try it, hopefully it will help when ordering things for armour pieces. bill
  25. Where do you practice law?? you have more disclaimers, and more things then i ever thought of when i do business org paper work as a Paralegal. As for the swirls in styrene, its nothing that can be controlled. We have a plastic manufacturer locally swirls in work are from the swirl of the pellets loaded into the heater and pushed out according to the owners, and theu been doing it for years. This company makes various items including trash canisters on wheels used by several local companies, and one nation wide company. this same company makes the plastic lids for trash dumpsters as well. go figure lets give these guys a fair chance, they cant do any worse then anyone else has bill
