I've had the pleasure of attending the NNL east many times with club members, and original members of the NNL Board of which have been dead (sadly) for a few years but were extrodinary modelers in thier time. A club I belonged too also had a board member he was also our clubs VP. I recall when NNL East was all one room, then it took both sides of the building. ONe Year they even had a local drag 69 Barracuda there Parking was difficult every year, and sometimes the day dragged out. Last I heard they were looking for a new location due to pressure put on the PBA by people wanting to use the basketball, and the model show interferred. There used to be a Hobby Store a few miles don the road on the left, and Hi-Way hobby just befor eyou crossed the NY Border. It is a contest, but not as formal a contest as others are...... relax..... or just dont enter your model to be judged real simple. I made some good friends at that show, and still keep in touch with them, bottom line is every show is a place to displayyour models, and everyone gets the trophy bug, but not one of us can accept that another can beat us no matter what our skill level is or the photoetch we add to it..... I know several that got beat with help from others, and they eventually faded out of modeling, and now bad mouth the hobby.... we all have issues, we all have things that interfere..... but a bad day at modeling show or table is stillf ar better then being at work.....

hi guys i've posted a few times, and many have answere3d with limited help, a few sent tires, and had to send back i have a schlitz mustand funny car building, in all honesty its the sister kit to the budweiser funny car. the kit looks similar to chi town hustler and blue max as far as tires and roll cages and engine area, yes this car is a mustang, but AMT used the same pieces with body changes. problem two kits both kits missing tires so i need 8 tires four fronts, and 4 slicks for rears. I tried desperatley to look every place i can, and every suggested person or venue im trying to finish this car "box stock" to enter in an IPMS show, so if i go to a vendor and get aftermarket i cant compete. If i can find matching tires from kits mentioned above, then i'm legal according to rules. i have looked at giuys selling off kit parts but they dont car to help with tires they want e to buy there whole parts box for possible tires any one with extra tires as they plan to use different, or not going to finish kit etc please help and let me know thanks bill d.

CD jewej cases can be used as mixing palettes for paint /bodo, pen springs can make flexible wheel spings or coil over springs sewing pins can be used as valve stems or the caps to the pins for many things, similar to grommets/hold down pieces on bed liners / tarps god i cant think of more how about girl friends/moms emory boards from nails for filing sprue pieces/cleaning them, or sanding.... use imagination i grew up ina day whwere you had to use imagination to accomplish things, thats why i can think outside the box like painting a body, when i use a low enough stand, i seal it in an upside down cake display from local grocer

Cleaning and prepping questions on Resin
billd64 replied to crispy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Years ago, i found that Mr. Muscle oven cleaner, and dawn dish detergent worked better then easy off oven cleaner, then I was turned on to letting it soak in brake fluid overnite, (older resins didnt like brake fluid as much) and then recently learned of castrol engine degreaser which I havent tried yet. Im tryin gto rehab an orange blossom II, and wish I hadnt bought the ###### thing..... im tired of building anythign old/decent, and being forced to pay outlandish prices.... its nothing more then greed.... I found irony in people and what they charged prior to model king dm 600. or monogram repop of 1926 mack trucks.... almost time to sell my stuff, and find a new hobby. I realize economy elevates the cost of things, but greed is worse then living with memory or economy at times -
I just bought a new type of glue @ Michael's...
billd64 replied to Jon Cole's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Spyder; I was recently told about that color, and as advised i mixed it 50/50 with flat black, and it gives a more realistic used rubber appearence vs new tires. Especially on what is supposed to be displayed as a muddy vehicle or a "rpad vehicle". I was at two IPMS shows recently, and you'd be surprised how many armour guys are using it on trucks, and hummers, and some planes that are weathered bill -
HOK enamels - need other reducer options for airbrushing
billd64 replied to Monty's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
i would think a ditzler paint thinner would work. I have a local paint mixer here, and they make colors for me in 2 oz tubes for like 12, bucks and shake it, add a lil more thiner when i come home, and it helps to do with mist coats, or add some air and bush through brush i recently was refferred to a guy that was @NNL EAST in jersey, Ill look for his site as he sells HOK products maybe make friends with local body shop, and they may help you with some thinner, adn vibrate in thier shaker so it mixes throughly before use in aibrush best i can say off top of head bill d. -
I Goofed And Used Cheap Masking Tape, Now What?
billd64 replied to fatherdevine's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
ive used novice num 2 before and ive used rubbing alcohol pads that you can get from pharmacy or drs office, takes off tape residue and no damage to paint, also maybe warm water with DAWN DISH DETREGENT?? bill d. -
Masking.... I used to use bare metal foil to mask, two / tone paint, burnished it, and then attached masking tape to the bare metal area, it hasnt failed me yet. recently i was told tamiya paint is good for masking, havent tried it yet, will be soon though as a roll of that is equal to baremetal foil, but bmf is expensive to mask with billd

As i was taught in school, and have learned since I got back into hobby 18 yrs ago, the only stupid/foolish question is the ones never asked, its just like improving model building or fab skills, you cant improve if you dont ask for help, your not alone, i ask questions, sometimes too many as i'm nervous about trying new things, like recently ..... i was challenged to build a plane, a friggen plane of all things and i normally do cars and trucks.... now i was volunteered for club challenge with a plane. I havent build a plane since I was 16 I think zap is a name brand it has 3 versions of instant glue, and a debonder its similar to the old krazy glue that everyone used to brag about years ago. many hobby stores have found a way to buy similar tubes of the cynoclide glue and put a generic label on them, which works as well I found that if ou put it in refrigerator, you have longer shelf life I usually use medium version, as thin runs too much zap or the generic sets 100x's faster then testors glue, adn I found that isopropyl alcohol, or paint thinner cleans it off hands bill d.

dave i wash all my models down diligently with dawn dish detergent, ive never had a problem with anything afterwards, Ive been stripping wih brake fluid, havent been able to find the engine degreaser locally from castrolthat people rave about. I also have been postponing the inevitable with either using nitrostan, or another form of bondo, so reading what you guys are doing is inciteful. I once masked with wax paper, but the body paint tore it up, no idea what bondo wiill do what about the old glue we used to use as kids from elmers early in school, i know armour guys that using it for masking areas, and then rub it off bill d.

Arrow Peterbilt 386 and 378
billd64 replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
phenominal, is all I can say, and again I think you should edit the update to Phil Jensens book, as i told you before. I started the can do wrecker, and found out a few paint tricks to make it look more realistic as well. You once said the rims/tires from AMT kits used in your tire cage model were wrong, what do you use for rims and tires now? can you help with instrutions to add a tag axle I want to stretch a frame and add one on a Mack that my intent is to put a lowboy and either dozer or backhoe and supplies on bill d. -

billd64 replied to ABC Auto Industry's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
that cummins motor brought back fond memories.... i can look up back in see my handi work in three frames that have that motor that i had too swap due to blown motors anyway according to local truck dealers in ny, i called three they pretty much gave the same answer from guys who were in industry for manny years, it had to due with rears, and frame strenght and use i like the mack version honestly, heavier leafs, and triple frame rail .... down sied i noticed ove time is ###### got in there and caused intenal rust/rot DOT issues i have a drop deck id like to make a functioning drop deck so i can pull away from it like a trailer we use curently, and help appreciated bill
