Revell '69 Yenko 427 Nova is Out!
Willy Survive replied to Len Woodruff's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here's the pics I promised guys. Ok that's the whole kit guys. I've got some questions too. Do the Yenko fender badges seem small to you guys? Would it have really had a 427 designation next to the front marker lights? Bench seat? Still not sure about that hood too? The wheels that came in the kit are the same ones that came in the Baldwin-Motion Chevelle. That didn't seem correct to me either. I figured either ralleye or torque thrusts? And were these available in the same 6 factory colors as the Camaro or were there different color options for the Nova? But all in all it looks like a cool subject at least. I'd rather build this than a stock SS Nova. Of course I may be biased 'cause I grew up about 8 or 9 miles from Canonsburg and I've always loved the Camaros. I'll let you guys see this when it's built. Later. -
Revell '69 Yenko 427 Nova is Out!
Willy Survive replied to Len Woodruff's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I got one on Saturday at an IPMS show in Pittsburgh. I think I paid $17. I'll post some pics tomorrow. Looks ok to me so far. The SS is noticable but I can live with it. One thing though, is a regular Nova SS hood correct for this car or should it have some type of cowl-induction hood? I wasn't sure. See you guys tomorrow. -
PM me your address and I'll get them to you this week.
-
Nope it doesn't come with any of those parts. I just bought that kit last weekend to make a dirt car out of it. If anyone wants those giant wheels that came in mine you're welcome to them. I'll never use them for anything. But to answer your question it is definitely not a replica from F & F. If you wanna make the movie car you'll have to do some kit-bashing.

Two Lane Blacktop on Turner Clasic
Willy Survive replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Two-Lane Blacktop is awesome. I love the part where James Taylor is trying to teach Laurie Bird how to drive a 4 speed. "You're right, you can't do it." And Hot Rod, I remember renting that from our local library when I was a kid but I haven't seen it on tv or on dvd or video since. I remeber it being cool though. BTW I really like that model of that Willys. And the Two-Lane 55, a member of the 3 Rivers Auto Modelers built the best one I've ever seen. It's been on display at a lot of their events. If Tom Jackson or Sully see this post they'd be able to tell you who did it and maybe post a pic. -
Thanks for so many replies guys. I appreciate each and every one of you taking the time to respond to this post. I understand I'm gonna have to swallow my pride and live off of macaroni and cheese for a while. As far as the kids being dropped off at daycare all of the answers are no. I don't know anyone in this entire town. It's roughly 60 miles from my parents and my wifes dad is handicapped (the main reason we moved to this little Podunk town) and unable to get into the daycare (steps). I'd love to find another one that maybe opens a little earlier But the company my wife works for owns the daycare and they pay half. It sucks to say this and I know I'm gonna make some of you mad but a layoff would be welcome for me right now. With unemployment benefits being extended for up wards of 2 years per claim. And yes I know thats certainly not going to help the economy at all. Not my ideal situation but it would actually be a little easier to provide for my family. Yeah I know thats a crappy thing to say but thats the way it is. And I do know the economy sucks right now but it seems like my company is using it as an excuse. Apparently money is OK when they take their $1000, four hour power lunches every Friday. Yes I've been to one so I know from first hand experience. Harry, I agree that the companies continued success is their number 1 priority. But I don't think I should have to sacrifice myself to financial ruin to make them money. So after a lot of thought I've come to a decision that may be a little hard at first but hopefully it'll work out in the end. If I've learned one thing from this it's that apparently I don't have the balls to be a plant manager. Especially if it means looking a loyal employee in the eyes and saying the things that were said to me. Thanks again guys. Time for ORGANIZATION.

Hey guys I just had to get something off of my chest. It's not a model car rant so I figured this would be the place to do it. I'm a production welder at a fab shop in southwestern PA. ( Yeah I know manufacturing sucks right now. ) Well, yesterday afternoon I went to work to be informed that I would be moved to the press brake area and given a $4 an hour decrease. Not as punishment but because I'm "adaptable" and pick things up pretty quickly. At least thats what I was told. I was also told that they weren't going to pay me as a welder while I was working as a bender. Sounds like punishment to me. Anyhow, It was also stated that I would have to switch shifts and start working day shift (7am - 3pm). Now this doesn't sound like a horrible shift but I have a 3 and a 2 year old that I take to daycare. Start time 8am. When I tried to explain this problem to the plant manager I was told "Now you're making your personal problems my problems and I don't give a [hoot] about it". When I simply explained that then it wouldn't be possible for me to work that shift and "maybe could I do a 9 to 5" I was told that if I didn't do it (the 7 to 3 shift) they would consider that my resignation. Apparently so they wouldn't have to pay me unemployment. Now I been with this company for about a year and a half and have never been late or missed a day. I've never been written up or had a part sent back due to poor quality (or for any other reason for that matter). I've always been willing to help in other departments when we were slow. I've pulled my share of doubles and have had vacation days canceled due to needing something to go on the truck. I'm not tooting my own horn but all in all I feel I'm a reasonably good employee. I've even slept in the parking lot so I could go back and work day shift after getting off at 3am. I guess my question is does this make sense to any of you? I understand some of you will think there are two sides to every story but truthfully this is what happened. Any of you guys business owners? Anyone work in manufacturing? Should I get out while I can? This has got me really upset and I don't know what to do. I don't mean to sound whiny but I really need some advice about this. Thanks for listening guys. I appreciate it. BTW This is why I've been kinda cranky. Sorry if I came off as a jerk to anyone. Also BTW The company is Sabina Manufacturing which is owned by Park-Ohio. They're a pretty big company. We do a lot of work for ABB, JLG, Grove, and McKesson. If you work for any of those places please take this into consideration. Thanks again.

All of you guys sure hit the nail on the head. As far as real drivers are concerned Earnhardt was the last mainstream "real" driver. The closest we have now in my opinion are Tony Stewart and some may disagree but Robby Gordon. Yes it's true Robby's equipment sucks and he's not competitive. But he has proven to be a great racecar driver. As a matter of fact that was the last time I saw any balls in NASCAR. You guys remember that Canadian road course race from like 2 years ago when he refused to give up his spot? Anyways back to the topic at hand. NASCAR seems like a highschool freshman trying to fit in with like 8 different groups of older kids while he's doing nothing but making his junior high buddies hate him. The things that really upset me aren't the cars or the drivers or even the fact that you don't have to have any skill to drive them. What make me the most mad is that credit isn't given where credit is due. So all I get to hear about is how much of a Kyle Busch fan D.W. is. I wanna hear Junior Johnson stories. Give me some Smokey Yunick footage. When was the last time you heard Tim Richmond's name mentioned during a broadcast? Never, NASCAR threw that in the closet with all of the other skeletons that's why. I'll watch for the time being but I used to have 4 or 5 people at my house every weekend to watch the race. It's just not interesting or fun anymore. But on the bright side the economy is still bad so maybe NASCAR will file Chapter 11 and us guys could buy all the shares for like $.12 a piece and restructure NASCAR back to what it's supposed to be. Hey a guy can dream can't he?

Hey I understand Tommy. To each their own. I just think those movies were perfect the way they were and didn't need remade. And it was bound to happen in any case it's just not my cup of tea. I will say I did like Robert Duvall in the "Gone" remake. But he was over shadowed by Nicholas Cage's (over)acting I think. I guess I just like simpler things. Give me a double feature of Two-Lane Blacktop, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, a sixer of PBR and some ballpark franks and I'm all set.
-
That would suck if they remade that movie. There was a made for tv remake with Viggo Mortensen in it a while back ( before lord of the rings) While it was a remake had basically the same concept it was a little different in quite a few parts. And even if they did remake it if they used a new Challenger that would suck even worse. Don't get me wrong I like those cars just not enough to be the "Vanishing Point" car. It would be like "Bullitt" with a 4 door Charger and 2008 Mustang. Again both nice cars but it just wouldn't be the same. All CGI and crappiness. And don't even get me started on remakes. Remember the steaming load of horse puckey from 2000 that they called "Gone in 60 Seconds"? Yeah thanks a lot Bruckheimer.

collectors choice special edition- 1961 Impalas
Willy Survive replied to MR BIGGS's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Any chance you could post the box art for the Cutlass. I'd love to make a Hurst Olds out of one of them. I don't guess we'll be getting any in any hobby shops here in Pittsburgh either. I'll buy them all online I just wanna make sure I get them pretty quick. Thanks Biggs-man. -
collectors choice special edition- 1961 Impalas
Willy Survive replied to MR BIGGS's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Anthony, what makes them a special edition kit? Are there new build options? I have a 61 ragtop I just bought at my regular hobby shop so I know it was new inventory for him. Only difference I see is that my box features a red Impala convertible. Just curious if yours come with something special? -
The fact is that everyone wants their team to win. I agree that Harrison shoulda got tossed for holding down that Cards player and punching him. Things like that were going on on both sides of the line. Bottom line is that refs are human and aren't gonna see everything and some are biased in favor of or against certain teams. Wisenhunt didn't cry about it like Holmgren did so apparantley it wasn't as obvious as you made up in your mind. Don't think it hasn't happened to the Steelers before too. Who can forget the 05 AFC playoff game against the Colts with the ridiculous call about Polomalus supposed "non interception". And of course no one who calls themselves a Steelers fan will ever forget the infamous Bettis coin toss incident. So there it is like it or not the Steelers won. I thought it was a fun game for a lot of Pittsburgh sports fans. That Larry Fitzgerald is probably the best receiver I've ever seen and it really was fun watching him work. So if this game upset you that much then I would hate to be around you when lifes real problems hit. Just remember what Mom told you when you were about 4 "It's just a game, have fun." I think that goes for watching and playing. But thats just my opinion.....

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY - EEEHAH
Willy Survive replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
<--Also from Pittsburgh and also a HUGE Steelers fan. Gonna eat some wings... gonna do some shots... gonna drink some Straub... And one things for sure gonna send my wife during the 3rd quarter to wait in line at Dick's sporting goods to get me my Pittsburgh Steelers Superbowl Champs official locker room t shirt. Just like in 05. Yeah and the Chargers will have a decent shot next year... if the entire sity of San diego becomes a college and they withdraw from the NFL and join the BCS. And remember guys Detroit went 4-0 in the preseason. -Will -
OOB Revell kit. I used Testors One Coat "Diamond Dust" for the body and Duplicolor red for the chassis. Also used various shades of metalizers. Smallblock Chevy powered with a Hillborn Injection system and i used some old Steve Kinser decals. Hope you guys like it. Any comments or questions are welcome.

Had a great time everyone and got a couple of really good deals. The only issue for me was the 50/50 last year you guys sold til it it $50 then did a drawing and that was the routine all day. This year it was 1 drawing at 2:30. Now it's your show and I'm not telling you what to do but people may not have been inclined to buy any tickets since they were not gonna stay all day. (like me) And I thought it was pretty awesome how that guy tried to rip off one of the vendors and about 15 of you guys chased him to get the stuff back. Thats awesome! But anyhow I had a blast and I can't wait til next year. Bobby, Tom, Brian, Sully and all you other modeling nuts I met, I had a blast talking to all you guys. And all you 3RA guys I can't wait til this new swap meet in March. Can anyone say income tax return time? Woohoo !!! Later. -Will

Well I just turned 28 today and I actually just got back into the hobby about 4 years ago. I built between the ages of about 6 to 13 then suddenly the girls at school weren't built like 7 year old boys anymore. I spent high school chasing women and gettin in trouble. After school I went to the service where I spent my money on...um.... I actually don't remember where it went. I had fun though. After that I moved around a lot and continued to chase women. It wasn't until one of them caught me with a bear trap ( ouch ) that I began to settle down. As we prepared to start our family and I came to the realization that I probably shouldn't raise my kids taking advice from royalty. ( Crown Royal to be exact) So I got back into models and out of the bars. I still have a beer occasionaly, especially when my 3 year old gets a hold of a wip or a fresh build. Someone said that some of you were old enough to be their parents, fortunately for me one of you are my parent and without him I may have never discovered this hobby. Thanks dad. With all that said I've met some really great in a lot of places throughout my life. I must say that in this hobby the amount of stand up, friendly, and knowledgable people always amazes me. The bad eggs are very few and far between. Thanks guys. Talk to you later. -Will

Kevin my son turns 3 in about 2 weeks and I watch Transformers about an average of twice a week. We're having an Optimus Prime birthday party for him and everything. If it's not "monster jams, Transformers, or Penguins hockey" he wants nothing to do with it. BTW I do happen to agree with him on the last one. -Will -

Mike thanks for the inspiration to pull this one off the shelf and start tinkering with it. Unbelievable work on this one. Decals are superb and the kit as a whole looks pretty flawless to me. Be for-warned I may shoot you a pm if I run into any snags on my build. Great job buddy. -Will
