  1. only thing i can think of is getting the grille from say a challenger and chopping that to fit (asuming you want the dual headlight conversion) but who knows, maybe someone resin cast them if not, chop and then cast it yourself
  2. somehwere along the lines the "booty" principle turned into the "sleeping in the bed rather then on the couch" principle at any rate, i did stick to it just to keep the peace ill be reshaping the rear fenders a little tonight, it seems like the wheels dont sit perfectly centered now that the rear suspenion is actually attached
  3. decided to go with the raised suspension just to keep it authentic i also added some coil overs to the rear suspension because the stock shock didnt fit after i raised the springs some
  4. i just happened to have those wide rims laying around and i thought it would be a good idea guess it wont be 100% era correct (that will give me some leadway with the engine aswell) the rake in that first picture is without any front suspension parts, the fenders are basically leaning on the top of the tires so its not really an option these are the two easyest option first of stock or with the raised front end i kinda like both ways but im leaning towards the raised suspension because it almost looks like the car is taking off already (plus its the wifeys favorite)
  5. i got some 22 gauge wire on order who knows, if that works out i might replace them but then i got to redo the valvecovers because the holes the ignition wires go into are to large garden hose you say ? it might look decent as aftermarket radiator hose on an import
  6. is that a mercedes star on the tailgate ?
  7. cool they were pretty easy to modify i cut the stems of with a dremel , the fronts i cut off completely, the rears i cut flush with the back of the rim on the front i superglued on some 1/8 styrene tubing i then drilled out the tubing to fit the stock front spindles on the back i used the same 1/8th tubing but left the stock I/D because it is a perfect fit for the kits metal axle i filled in the gap between the tube and the stem with modeling putty im building this car slightly different then my usual order, im building this one from the ground up (normally i build the engine first) i will post mock up pictures later today on the fron ride height (im leaving the rear where it is at) the kit has the option of raising the front like a real gasser or leaving it stock which brings up this question, on a 1:1, ehy do they raise the front ?
  8. there is no distributor all the plug wires are added together around a small styren shaft then the bottom 1/8 of the wires have been wrapped in MBF and that is my dizzy i have bought prewired ones before but im just out experimenting im thinking this combo will be my main display now and whatever model i want to show wil take the plae of the GTX on the trailer
  9. moved her to the display case http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21003
  10. well, here she is my 1953 ford pick up with trailer the idea of this build was to make the two as a matching set the paints are duplicolour gunmetal and krylon fire red first of the trailer this is a pretty straight forward trailer no mods on this one the frame is gunmetal, the bodywork and plates are fire red (the GTX is a car i build earlyer that just matches this ride perfect) rims on the trailer are mopar rallys from a challenger (i think) next up, the truck tons of cumstom parts on this one (some from the kit some from myself) working our way from the front to the back the front bumper has been removed and the face of the car is a custom grille i decided to paint the headlights yellow to make it look more "period correct" the holes in the front where the bumper used to poke through were filled in with bullet nerfs underneath the hood lies a build ford flathead engine the intake is suplied by a custom adapted dual carb intake from a mustang the exhaust manifolds are alf stock and go into chromed collectors from a lindberg 40s coupe each collector is straight piped into a stack from the lil red express truck kit (thank you bill rules for the stacks and thank you edshaver for the advise on how to build the flathead) the spark plug wires are 20 gauge and a little to big next time i will use 22 gauge all this power is hooked up to a set of custom adapted deep mopar rally wheels (remember i want to keep the truck and trailer matching) the rims on the truck have a deeper dish then the trailer though the front ones are wrapped in goodyear GT radials while the rear rims wear mickey thompson sportsmans the bed had to be tubbed to fit these massive tires (thank you spike for the tires) on the outside the wheels are shielded by custom fenders the fenders are fitted with corvette taillights the rear bumper was also removed and replaced with a rear roll pan (i did this as an afterthought after the body was painted wich is why it is not molded in) finally the stock tailgate was replaced with a custom shaved version the ford decal is also from the lindberg coupe topping everything of is a chome license plate frame attached to the rear rollpan thank you to everyone who supplied parts and advice for this build and as always any feedback is apreciated

looks like the hamster escaped from your ford ( note i didnt say edsel)
  12. what i would do is buy some strawberries seriously, eat the strawberries then you have a nice clear plastic box take the old windshield and trace it cut out the new windshield out of the strawberries box and superglue it into the body heres one i did that way front and back are strawberrie cases
  13. pretty sure that kit wasnt out yet when i needed it i browsed all of ebay for it so today i went to my LHS to get some styrene and i browsed the kits the had the had that very kit AND are you ready for this ? a vanishing point challenger jerks
  14. couldnt resist kit moved here http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20978
  15. hey guys like the title says, i am building my very first gasser are yall proud of me ? this will be a rather slow build because i have a 79 trans am coming in the mail that needs to be done for my father in laws birthday (coming up some time this month i think ) at any rate, here is some background info on this car i bought a lot of 6 cars of ebay planning to keep one and sell the other 5 for what i paid for it (basically getting the one kit for free) as i was putting the kits back on the bay i was reading the instructions so i could give the best description possible when i came across this i showed the wifey and she said i just had to build it (part 537 in case you missed it) at any rate, i noticed this model came with the optional gasser parts so that what i am going to build it as my first point of buisness was to find a good set of rims in the partsbox i found this set i got in a trade (cant remember who it was but im sure they will come forward) the rims came from a diecast so i had to made some adjustments luckely for me the model has a metal rear axle so making it fit will be simple ( the rim on the right is only for comparision) you can also see i had to bring up the rear suspension to make it fit i also had to cut open the rear wheel wells to fit those massive drag rims the inside of the model had a pattern cast into it for this very purpose but the slicks im using are much larger then the ones that came in the kit so i had to go well past that (luckily my wife bought me a dremel for christmass several years ago) here is a shot of the wheel wel (this was my first time using 1/2 round styrene to make the wheel wels look stock (because we all know how those 32x14 tires were on option on the 56 victoria) speaking of which, it will most likely have a blown boss 429 in it now, keep in mind guys, this is my very first gasser so any adives or parts you want to give will be apreciated
  16. thanks for the compliment the grille is one of two optional custom grilles that came with the kit on top of the stock grille i scraped the chrome off the very end of it (outside the light housing) and painted it gunmetal to fit in nicely the taillights are also included in the kit and are called "optional" however, the custom fenders (as installed) are cast to accept these corvette style taillights im very pleased with the way they came out the only other thing i considered was bondoing up the holes for the vette taillights and ad a set of late 40s ford coupe tails but im glad i went with the vettes
  17. what he means to say is, you have found a weak link in your drive train and are now "offered" a primo chance to replace a out of date and inferior part with a up to date and superior part gotta love the free excuse to upgrade
  18. i got several seats from stock interior im not using, including one or two bench seats shoot me a PM and we'll work something out (if your itnrested)
  19. see, i never got why people hate metal axles that much true, it does not always look the nicest but i personally think the trade of for easy of changing rims is worth it at any rate, when did this kit come out ? i looked high and low for ANY chally with that hood and all i found was the JL kit
  20. try this one http://cgi.ebay.com/DREMEL-VARIABLE-SPEED-...%3A1%7C294%3A50
  21. this is the one i have and it is awesome http://cgi.ebay.com/DREMEL-VARIABLE-SPEED-...alenotsupported it comes with a strong 110 volt motor that has 6 speeds and a flexible shaft when i use it i hang the motor upside down from the top of my workbench and as the sheft comes down i hold the handle like a marker (the handle is about the size of a marker too) i love this thing, my wife bought it for me for Christmass several years ago and i've used it for anything from body work on 1:1 cars to sharpening lawnmower blades to building models
  22. 15000 to 20000 grand ? that is 15-20 million dollars you could have bought pontiac for that kinda cash (the brand, not just the car) lol id say buy it man, toss em in a shed somewhere and sell them when the market goes up
  23. what notes ? excelent idea ill do that when i get home from work tomorrow got some printing to do then anyways
  24. thanks for the advise i'll keep it all in mind but dont hold your breath, i am working on 3 projects that are nearing completion that i want to finish before laying hands on this one i dont know why but i havent gotten a single kit done yet this year i think the last one i finished was a christmass present
  25. been a week or so and i got a little bit more done to the truck as a mather of fact it is actually starting tl look like a truck after some discussion i decided to install straight pipes on the truck, no cross overs (thanks ed) some things that still need to be done clear and polish the tailgate clear and polish the rollpan install the tailgate, roll pand and tow hitch plumb the engine to the radiator slap on a license plate frame and plate maybe ad some more chrome anyways, as always let me know what you think
