the red stuff is a scale version of bondo i dont know what the exact make and type is but the aplication is generally the same it can also be modeling clay or putty (i use pirate putty myself) it is used just like bondo, to make changes to the body, smooth out surfaces or eliminate panel lines here is an example of my putty i filled in the gaps between the fender and the sideskirt, the rear qauter panel and the rear bumper and i used it to graft in my scratchbuild air scoop after it hardens there is a LOT of filing, sanding and general smoothing out to be done and this is my end result if i were to do this on a 1:1 car i would have used bondo but since this is a scale car i used "the red stuff" or modeling putty hope this awnsers your question

this is my rendition of the same kit including "some" body damage the way i created it was by heating the area to be damaged with a lighter and then pressed the rear end of the ligther into it (if you really wanna go to town you can heat it and then pick the car you want to smash it with and push the front end of that car into the heated area)
-
how bout this, since its a "weekend project" as it were why nto pick one body colour and do one of the panels a differnt colour like it was replaced but not repainted
-
that is indeed a very nice model i like the interior exterior colour combination what kit exactly is this ? i was looking all over heck to find one with that hood last winter to build one for my father in law i ended up using the johnny lightning version and had to turn the ragtop into a smooth hardtop to make it fit my needs funny thing, this one actually came with the stripe you have, only in black and white

lol a LOW KEY 426 twin turbo thats awesome i like where this build is going how will the paint job be ?
-
not really have a look at that motormount there was some real structural damage so the insurance company called it totalled funny thing, the only "body panels" that were busted were the front bumper and the hood but i guess the entire cradle was junked not at all like my cougar, when i totalled that one the only body panels that were NOT damaged were the roof and the rear hatch whats even funyer, niether one of those cars had the airbags deployed and the tibby took a head on hit, you would expect it on that one it did get me thinking though, after seeing the damage that little golf did to my tibby.... ...i decided to buy my a volkswage passat
-
i wouldnt mind have a genesis myself i used to have a tiburon it was an 03 2.o that i did the facelift bumperswap on, so it had the 05 bumper on it also had a header, custom exhaust and intake pretty nice litte car (totat chich magnet) till i hit a patch of ice with it and then a Vdub golf that was too bad at any rate, the type-S is indeed a twin engine so the two turbos will be greatly appreciated

flathead exhaust question
diymirage replied to diymirage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i also heard adding a cross over pipe to a ford flathead creates an exhaust vacuum which can lead to burned exhaust valves so straight pipes it is thanks guys -
thanks i am really pleased with the way the vents came out all those hours of sanding and puttying paid off well th paint is very glossy allready, im hoping it will get even better after clear coating it and the wing is a aftermarket that came with the revell ford focus SVT tuner kit all i needed to do is sand the bottom so it would sit flush its pretty simple dave i cut a section out of the chassis and removed the gas tank i also took out everything pertaining to a rear seat this will give me plenty of room to install a VTEC engine i took from a honda civic SI it is placed directly over the rear axle so ill use that engine to power the rear wheels and the stock, front engine to power the front wheels this also forces me to build a fuel cell which will come in handy to hide the screw that hold the body on the chassis (normally this is hid by a peice of trim i removed to install the engine)

finally got some work done on the type-S painted and decalled the body as you can tell, the hood and rear wing are carbon fibre i also did a lot of detailing on the inside not sure how im going to finish of the door, i dont want to use the stock panels but i might have too suggestions are always welcome
-
thanks i think the soldering iron would work on small dings, like the kind you get in a parkinglot when someone opens their door into your car but the lighter method works better for the larger damage next time i might just heat the body panel i want to damage with the lighter and then physically run another scale model into it to actually simulate the impact
-
awesome ill PM you right now let me know if you want to trade aything for them
-
added you to the list i think you should have plenty of time bit then again we all have different schedules i set the deadline for october 2nd that is a friday and it gives us the weekend of the 3rd and 4th to race

the intake reminds me of the optional ram air on the 4-4-2 cars looking pretty sweet you should see if you can part with one of two of those 12 extra snails you got to up the ante on my driftcar
-
looking good bro you got the rake perfect now, the work on the frame paid off well make sure you put some clamps on there holding the bed to the frame i just gleud the bed on my ford and it was the only way to make it sit right
-
i think you have plenty of time i beleive we said around september for the deadline

cool im gonna feel really stupid if your car ends up beating mine though
-
thats a pretty sweet mill you got there i would consider buillding a CAI you would not beleive how hot it gets over there by the turbo you do realise your gonna get a CEL with that BOV right ? the MAF is expecting to see more air coming in then you will actually have because the BOV is releasing to the atmosphere air that the MAF all ready measured i did some work on my truck today but nothing on the drifter hopefully this wednesday

flathead exhaust question
diymirage replied to diymirage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
the whole "concept" of this truck is a shop or racer having something he can take to the races, either with or without a trailer im going for a profesional truck that can put down some decent numbers as well as represent the shop as a decent peice of work (so no "countryside engineering" with 7 different peices of tube) as i said before i am new to the whoel concept of a flathead so im just gauging the waters on weather it is beneficial to even run a cross over. i heard the flathead cant flow very well anyway and you could get it to flow at its maximum capacity easy without the cross over in which case there is just no need for it.
