Ghost Kits - Shown But Never Released
Brett Barrow replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Biggest single retailer of model kits today is Amazon. By far. Full disclosure: we sell on Amazon. Not sure how much is bought and actually warehoused by Amazon and how much is just companies like us selling through Amazon, but I see the power of Amazon first hand every day. HUNDREDS of (mostly Revell) kits shipping out each day around Christmas from just our little slice of Amazon. I'll put it this way, if every NNL/GSL attending, message board posting, "serious" car modeller quit buying kits, we'd probably survive. But if every mom buying a kit for her son for Christmas or every child buying a kit for their dad for Fathers' Day quit buying kits then we'd starve. And I can't stress that point enough. -
1/25 Revell '29 Model A Roadster 2'n'1

As long as I get my coupe by Christmas! -
Anybody else remember when the Revell Deuce came out and a bunch of folks complained it DIDN'T have an SBC? There's never been a 4-71 blower, (that I know of) that's what this kit is supposed to have but I haven't seen a good side shot yet to tell for sure. As I said before, that is a grail engine for a lot of us. That's what's in the McMullen Roadster for one. I'm hoping that once we get into the 3rd and 4th versions of this family they'll add more engines like the recent versions of the Deuce. Honestly, I couldn't be more excited about this kit, SBC w/ 4-71, Halibrands, highboy on Deuce rails, Deuce grille - except for the rear axle it's exactly how I would have designed it for myself.

AK-interactive: TRUE METAL
Brett Barrow replied to Intmd8r's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah, I'd paint it a darker shade, like Alclad Steel, and then rub one of the True Metal shades, like their Steel or Dark Aluminum, that's just a bit lighter than the base color. -

AK says they're enamel, but they smell like alcohol. The regular aluminum I tried resists handling very well, but so far it's the only one I've tried. -
Brushes, NOT Airbrushes

I have a 1, 0, and 00 in the regular (not miniature) line. -
Brushes, NOT Airbrushes
Brett Barrow replied to Miatatom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You can't beat Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable brushes. Expensive, but take care of them and they'll last a very long time. I use them for enamels and acrylics, but the old rule of thumb is that you use natural bristles for oil-based paints and synthetics for acrylics. I only use them for brush painting small details, I use an airbrush for large areas. Never tried brush painting lacquers, I think they would dry too fast to brush paint. -
AK-interactive: TRUE METAL
Brett Barrow replied to Intmd8r's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I used Alclad aluminum under it. I think you need a metallic color under it as the True metal is very transparent. I just glopped it on with a brush right out of the tube and then with my bare finger started polishing it right away, rubbing until I feel the heat from friction in my finger. I think it's meant more for "punching up" other metallic finishes than to be used as a finish all on its own. -

As I said, I used it over Alclad on some natural metal airplanes I'm working on. I guess it works differently as the base coat. Front half of this wing has been done with the True Metal over both Alclad and AK's new Xtreme Metal. The Xtreme Metal works great too, it's really shiny. -
AK-interactive: TRUE METAL

I have some AK True Metal, it's awesome stuff, it's like Rub n' Buff but it actually dries and hardens and doesn't keep wiping off on your fingers. I've been using it over Alclad base coats to give them a more realistic look. It's transparent and will let the base color show through. You can put it on with a brush or q-tip or even your finger and you buff it up to give it a shine. You can even thin it down with thinner and turn it into a paint. -
Oven Cleaner, get the stuff in the yellow can, not the "Fume Free" blue can stuff. Oven Cleaner is safe on clear plastic but the paint itself might have clouded the plastic. I'd probably just sand and polish the paint off the windows if it were mine.

What Kits Had/Have Glass-Pack Type Mufflers?

The Revell Rat Roaster has a very nice set and even has Cherry Bomb decals for them. The other Revell 32 Fords are blob-like. -
1970 Dodge Charger R/T?
Brett Barrow replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's probably just a regular production 68/69 kit with a hole cut in the hood to get the layout right for the F&F kit, but I guarantee you that the reason that's on somebody's desk is because they're working on the F&F Charger due later this year. -
Tamiya X-21 Clear Flat Base
Brett Barrow replied to Jon Cole's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You mix flat base into gloss paints to flatten them, it's not intended to use by itself. Tamiya now makes a ready-made flat clear, XF-86. -
1970 Dodge Charger R/T?

Yeah, it has been a while since I've been on here. Took me a while to remember my log in and password, even the computer had forgot... -
1970 Dodge Charger R/T?
Brett Barrow replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I see it... I'm 99.999% sure that's the Fast & Furious Charger they're doing later this year but I'm not sure if that will be based on the previous diecast they did or the 68/69 plastic kit. -
Revell is going to do the Green original F&F Eclipse and Charger as plastic kits. They did them as diecasts back when the movie first came out, now they will be plastic kits. I don't know yet if these will be based on similar plastic kits already in their line-up (I hope so), or just simply plastic shot through the diecast molds, ala the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am and other die-cast to plastic conversions they've done.

The roof might be a tick too forward, but I think that's minor compared to the rear overhang.
