I agree, Round 2's doing great with what they're doing now, but the thought of selling an all-new tool AMT kit just has me salivating... I soooooo wished the 66 Batmobile had been branded an AMT kit instead of a Polar Lights kit, would have made selling them sooooo much easier... I've got to wonder, too, if this sale of involves anything with the molding facility in MI that was being used to mold most of the Lindberg and Hawk lines. A return to "Made in the USA" AMT kits would be great for sales as well. A lot of Revell/Monogram reissues are done in the states now, it's possible we could have the bulk of reissue kits being molded in the US in a couple years...

Round 2 Purchases Lindberg/Hawk
Brett Barrow replied to Art Anderson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The new "IMC" (Iowa Model Cars) was Ernie Petit and he was going to release some ex-JoHan stuff. No relation to the old IMC. edit - "Illinois Model Co." my bad. -
Round 2 Purchases Lindberg/Hawk

Testors never owned Lindberg, they owned Hawk. Ernie Petit and a few other guys from Testors came to J. Lloyd to run the model brands. -
Round 2 Purchases Lindberg/Hawk
Brett Barrow replied to Art Anderson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"Only the engine and chassis could be carried over from that kit to do a 2011+ car..would have to tool up new interior, body, glass, trim, wheels, etc. Plus, was that tooling even Lindbergs---it first appeared as a Testors kit back around 2007..." The folks who were responsible for that kit's original release at Testors moved to Lindberg/Hawk when J Lloyd bought them. So the later Super Bee and Police Chargers are Lindberg, but the original R/T and Daytona are Testors. -
Milk it for all it's worth, if it means we might get some new tooling sometime soon. Maybe the Elvis version will be in a lunch box complete with deep-fried peanut butter and banana sammich...

Lindberg would be dead otherwise. They were not going to produce anything new. They've been on life support for a few years now. -

Great news! There's some great kits from Lindberg that deserve to live on. On the other hand, there are quite a few that deserve to die a quick and merciful death... Maybe we'll finally get the "Lawman" 64 Belvedere Super Stocker kit, I was looking forward to that one. -

AMT Corvette 'Sock it to Me' ?
Brett Barrow replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Round 2/AMT is aware of the issue with the tires and will issue extra tires if you want them. Though honestly, anyone that buys this kit to build stock doesn't deserve a full set of tires... -
Thanks for the review. The yellow version is out now, the white and yellow came out at the same time.

Pretty funny, and a cool "what if" concept, but entirely staged and designed to go viral. Welcome to the new age of marketing. http://www.hickoryrecord.com/independent_tribune/news/article_0671f852-8b41-11e2-8320-0019bb30f31a.html

Speechless... I don't know what to say, er, I mean type! That's just stunning on so many levels...

Great work on what looks to be a great kit. A heads up to any American modelers who might be interested, this will be released as a Revell US kit in a couple months, so don't go crazy tracking one down unless you just gotta have it right now. But judging by the quality of Geoff's I think there might be a few folks who might want one sooner rather than later...

Compressor or CO2 tanks
Brett Barrow replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Bottled CO2 will be around forever. It's made by capturing CO2 that would otherwise be released as pollution from various industrial processes. There's already enough bottled CO2 to last the entire human race several generations. -
Compressor or CO2 tanks
Brett Barrow replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use CO2 and have for about 15 years, and haven't had a compressor since I lived at home and we had a big huge shop compressor in the basement (that my dad plumbed a line up to my workbench and intalled a big paint booth filter/trap/regulator). I love CO2 , I wouldn't use anything else in my situation (live in an apartment and live close to my refill source). It's clean, silent, and dry and doesn't require electricity, so I can take it anywhere I feel like lugging it. I use a 20lb cylinder, I get about 12-18 months out of a fill. I have a two-gauge regulator on it so I know the pressure inside the cylinder, when it starts to fluctuate I know it's getting close to refill time, but I still have plenty of time (probably a month or more) to go get it refilled. Never had it run out in the middle of a job, and I've never had it freeze up on me. CO2 is nothing like Propel cans... I figure with what I paid for the rig and 15 years of refills and hydrotest fees, I'm probably still ahead of what I would have spent on a silent compressor, regulator, and moisture trap, and who knows if that would still be running after 15 years? -
MPC '71 Dodge Demon re release
Brett Barrow replied to Trucker_tim's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
All the concrete info I have on the 71 Demon and 75 Dart Sport reissues are the kit numbers and that they are planned for 2013 - 71 Demon will be MPC #773, 75 Dart Sport will be MPC #798. As I said, I would expect a "One Run of Fun" issue of the 75 Dart Sport first, since that's how the tooling currently exists, then the "restoration" back to 71 Demon to follow. -
I think an even bigger debacle than Power Modeler was their MagCliks line of tween girls' jewlery in the mid-2000's. That's pretty much why Revell ended up as part of Hobbico/Great Planes. All those non-core business ventures of the 90's and 2000's were total failures. I also remember a line of toy-like tranformer-type simple model kits, too, around that same time. Can't remember the name.

Ah, yes I remember that Power Modeler debacle. Had they waited 4 or 5 years it might have turned out OK. I also built that Nazca kit back in the day. And that article is still live on that website, here's an alternate link to the cached one http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/19940625/ISSUE01/100011836

Well, got the newest release info today, it's not slated for June . But the Miss Deal did get moved into a May release date, so that's something to look forward to. 67 Vette gets bumped back to June instead. Miami Vice Daytona gets moved up to April. Here's what's being listed for June as of now - note these can change things do get bumped up, so it could end up in June. June- Snap Expedition Police version 1/24 Original Mini Cooper (Revell Germany) 64 Impala Foose 67 Corvette Convertible. -
MPC '71 Dodge Demon re release
Brett Barrow replied to Trucker_tim's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It'll be late in the year. You'll probably see a "one run of fun" reissue of the 75 Dart Sport first, before the tooling is restored to the 71 Demon configuration. -
Looks great, Guardsman Blue is probably one of my all-time favorite colors, and not just because of its association with Shelbys, but because it's just a cool color! And to add to Harry's tip, a little bit of pearl white paint on molded-in headlights works wonders, too, without drilling or altering the kit.
