Those look great. Charlie Larkin

The paint really helps. Anyone not impressed by this is either in the wrong hobby or simply has no appreciation for hard work. Charlie Larkin

I probably would never have picked up on the windsheild, but those push-button door handles need to be corrected. I would suggest a small piece of flat styrene strip placed roughly where the existing door handles are. The amount of work you put into this shows, Michael. Even if not absolutely 100% correct in its present state, you clearly have made a representation of the intended subject. If those corrections are made and a resin is cast, I'll definitely buy one. Why aren't all model kits awesome?
charlie8575 replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Having briefly returned to teaching this school year, I think a very important point is being made. Short attention spans not withstanding, the threshold of boredom being reach by a lot of kids and the younger adults is amazing, and it does seem a lot of it is because of high-tech stuff that made things so easy, it's become ho-hum. I would talk to my students about building models. Or woodworking. Or why I like to do my drafting on pencil-and-paper. Or why I still shoot black-and-white film and develop it myself (and color film and don't develop it myself). It's about skill and mental exercise, and that's something that for a variety of reasons, today's younger people have become complete dis-interested in and many schools and teachers have de-motivated that aspect of humanity. Personally, I think it's tragic. The gratitude I did get, though, was a lot of my kids found model-building interesting. And they liked the ability I had to diagram and draw an idea without "benefit" of a computer. Then they saw that I could use...books(!) and encyclopedias to find information when the computer was not cooperating. Back to modeling.... I agree with Erik. Every kit is awesome in its own way. Some just are incredibly well-done, well-executed tributes to man' ingenuity and design capability. Some are awesome failures that remind us we are still, at heart, human. Some are awesome for parts. Or building and putting on a shelf. Some have incredible box-art. All kits, and much of the world is awesome. If you're willing to look for it. Charlie Larkin -
How do you display your models?
charlie8575 replied to rmvw guy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Before I had to move back home, I had a couple of those Ikea "Billy" bookcases. I thought they were fantastic. Very well-made, looked nice. I didn't have doors on mine, as I used them for books and a little storage, but they were a good deal. Bruce- what did you use for the lighting apparatus in yours? Those look good, too. I would probably go with an LED or similar light that doesn't get hot to minimize potential problems. Charlie Larkin -
Roy Brown - designer for the Edsel
charlie8575 replied to southpier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Personally, I always liked the Edsel. It's too bad that it earned such a horrible reputation from so many people who really don't know better. Thank you, Mr. Brown, for your vision. Charlie LArkin -
Pink Primer (Tamiya)
charlie8575 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Why not just use Plsti-Kote or Dupli-Color red oxide primer? Personally, for a pink, I'd probably use white primer. Charlie Larkin -
Very nice work, Kenn. Charlie Larkin

The black metallic is an interesting choice. I have to say it looks pretty good on that car. What did you use for the green interior? It comes very close to my eye to the olive green interior GM was using in the early-mid 1970s. Charlie Larkin

Looks great, Chris. This will be a great addition to any shelf, including mine once I have a little extra scratch. Charlie Larkin

63 valiant wagon updates

More wagons! I can't wait! Jeff, any guess what these will be running for price? Charlie Larkin -
Very nice work so far. Well-done. Charlie Larkin

Simply remarkable. The details are the stars and they really shine here. Charlie Larkin

That hood ornament looks pretty good to me. This whole thing is incredible. Charlie Larkin

If they do it, this is what I'd like to see and I think would sell well. 1. 1955-57 Olds 88 2-door sedan (stock and NASCAR) and convertibles for the obvious reasons- it's a convertible. 2. 1957 Pontiac Bonneville. Do I need to say more? 3. 1957 Olds Fiesta or Buick Cabellero 4. 1955-57 Pontiac Safari 5. 1955-57 Pontiac Chieftian 2-door sedans (again, NASCAR). 6. 1955-57 Buick Century. A '55 2-door sedan could be used for a police car or for some type of racing. Rivieras and convertibles would simply be a nice addition to any shelf. A Roadmaster would also be welcomed. If they pick the subjects right, they'll probably sell reasonably well. I'd really like to see a real gamble taken and offer something like a Roadmaster or Olds 98 four-door. Charlie Larkin

Start saving your pennies!
charlie8575 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gotta agree with Rob, that simple white-on-black scheme is looking pretty good. The grille appears more like anodized aluminum than plated or polished? Yes? No? Charlie Larkin -
Remember the B movie "Used Cars"?
charlie8575 replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's out on video? I'll have to get that. I remember when CBS ran it when I was about ten or so. I thought it was one of the funniest movies I ever saw. Now that I'm an adult, I'm sure it'll be even more funny and I'll get the jokes Dad didn't want to explain to me. Charlie Larkin -
High up on the cool scale. Those jacked-up SUVs in the back look like swarming sharks around a guppy by comparison! Nice conversion on that. Charlie Larkin

Nice blending of some new and old elements. The color works really well on that, too. Nice job, Jim. Charlie Larkin

Definitely good workmanship and well-done. Lowriders are definitely not my thing, but I can still appreciate the technical excellence. Charlie Larkin

The silver with green interior is one I would never have considered, but I must say it looks very nice. The build itself demonstrates good workmanship, too. Charlie Larkin

Very nice. I think I need to get one of those for myself. Charlie Larkin
