  1. LOL! Yes, I spent about 20 minutes searching the YOUTUBE catalogue for just the right tune, although there was one called Harry's Way, I almost used, until I remembered Doctor Cranky's way! Well, I hope you like your model, chap. Now the question is how I'm going to ship it to you so that it arrives in one piece. Or maybe I will send it to you in pieces, and you can put it together!
  2. Thanks, chaps . . . I hope Harry doesn't have a cat!
  3. He likes it, Doctor Cranky LIKES it!
  4. I believe Black Gold was one of the first companies to sell HOK in very small portions, so you might be looking at the real stuff. Maybe someone else can confirm that.
  5. I agree with Walt, the color is beautiful AND perfect.
  6. Wow, that is ONE beautiful, well build model. It should have been part of the box art covers. Congrats.
  7. Thanks, it's got a couple of rough spots that I gotta work on . . . and they show up in the pictures well, which is an indication of my eye deterioration.
  8. Thanks to all. Here's the vid for a further look and explanation of the things done to this thing:
  9. Thanks, Don, I appreciate it. My main concern is that Harry, who will only find out that this is here and that THIS is HIS model, will like it. I really don't care about the national contest, but I've been wanting to build something special in gratitude for all the hard work Harry has put into Doctor Cranky's model building career!
  10. I hope the Tiki Gods are Happy!
  11. As most of you who've been following the MARCH MAD-NESS out of Doctor Cranky's Lab-RAT-Ory know, I've been working on not one, not two, not three, not four, but FIVE, YES! FIVE Fifty-Five Chevys, the last one of which I have built for my fellow Lab-RAT-Ory contributor and someone who works tirelessly behind the scenes here at Model Car Magazine Forum, Mr. Harry Pri. Harry and I have spent a couple of years working on a project (more on that soon) and he was instrumental in getting Doctor Cranky to stop whining and get busy. So THANK YOU, Harry. I hope you and the folks at the REVELL/GearZ National Model Contest like this sucker. I know I had a blast building it and I am currently putting the finishing touches on it, in particular the trunk details . . . So without further adoo-hoo-hoo-hoo, here's Doctor Cranky's "TIKI 5-FIVE"--Can you say that five times in a row, please? Stay tuned in for another round . . . with the working parts . . .
  12. The model is finished and photographed in a new setting. Thanks for tuning in, everyone! Enjoy:
  13. Jim, I get York caps, of the eye-dropper inserts with white screw tops. The York tops are perfect.

    Ford-49

Very nice. I like that color.
  15. It's a gorgeous model, and the kits is fabulous. I love what you did to the engine, adding all those parts and wiring it. BEAUTIFUL.
  16. Thanks, Gabriel, but you know in the last couple of years I've been trying out Auto Air Colors and I'm in and out of love with that one. It's a great paint, but you have to stop to dry with the hairdryer. Light coats, lots of hair drying, but it's a water-based paint (easy on the cleanup) that takes most clears really well. I use it, although not as much as HOK.
  17. BEAUTIFUL. Love the graphics and the colors. Wonderful model, congrats.
  18. I like it, the colors, the stance, and also the wonderful pictures . . . a model always gains from being photograph in a good environment.
  19. Wow, thanks Mike, for the system information. It definitely looks like a great thing to have . . . I'm checking out. I'm glad the paint mixture is working out for ya! I store my paints in the bottles and containers they come in. They last for years like this. When I am mixing my own colors or acrylics, I use bottles I get here: http://www.sks-bottle.com/340c/SearchIndexPlastic.html
  20. Tell me more, buddy. I've been looking into it. Can you show me what yours looks like. Very interested. Steve, yes, great tip. I keep mine in a big ziplock too, although once in a while I forget to put it in and then I have to change the cartridge.
  21. There are a couple of good ones here: http://www.coastairbrush.com/products.asp?cat=293
  22. Bill if you plan on taking deep breaths ( ) make sure the very best painting mask possible. As a matter of fact, mine is getting a bit old, so I'm going to shop for a new one. I will keep you posted on what I find. Cheers, D.C.
  23. No I was not familiar with the story, which is great, but I was curious about the history of the kit in part because of your wonderful photo archive. I mean, clearly, this looked like more than just a simple resto-job. You did a magnificent job with it, as you have with most of the gems in your collection. You, Tom Kren and Bill Stillwagon sure do know how to put down one smooth, killer paint job. It's great to be in the hobby and be able to look over your shoulder while you build. Well, not literally, but you know what I mean.
  24. Could you, for example, imagine something going wrong when you were working on this one? And I know you are a pro, my friend, and had something gone wrong you probably would have started all over again because at heart you are a perfectionist, and a paint job like this, to get it this beautiful, takes time and IS a labor of love . . .
