  1. When it comes to realism, you are The Man ! I never know whether to compliment you for you stellar building and painting skills, or the way you handle a camera. The combination of the two provided some fantastically realistic shots. I'm still in love with the Bentley shot on the cover of MCM, but this one is at least it's equal.
  2. Once again, I can't leave well enough alone. I called this one done some time ago, but sometimes the little things just keep itching at you. When I built this car, I had intended on scratch building the hydraulic mechanism for the top, but got in a rush to get it done and let that detail slip away. The other day I was in between model projects and decided to follow up on the details. I started by adding some studs and nuts on the intake manifold for the missing carb. While on the engine I cleaned up a few weathering details. Here's the result another angle Here's the hydraulics; a scratch-built ram and pump and some mods to the top frame to attach the ram. Unfortunately, none of my pics show the pump. It's covered up by the hydraulic hoses. I also added the brace across the bottom of the tulip panel.

  6. I was going to mention that too, Chris. The yellow zinc plated grade-8 bolts are as common as mud. I'd be more concerned about the style rather than the color. These drop-in center sections usually slide over threaded studs and then secured by nuts. The bolts just don't look right. Awesome work by the way. This is going to be a great resource and reference thread for years to come.

  8. Thanks again for all your support and encouraging comments. Todd, it's a shame you can't make the Omaha show. I'm sure you'd agree that this one always has a great turn out by the vendors. I think that's what makes that show so popular. I'm looking forward to some progress pics from some of you guys so I can steal some ideas and techniques (Randy, Bryan; wink, wink) Bill, I'll start setting my "Best of Show" goals once you retire from the model bench and sell off the big boy machines. Between the California Charger, your current HEMI project and who knows what else is up your sleave, I think you may have a lock on that award for a while. P.S., Bryan, how's that Cobra coming along?
  9. Crazy work on the interior, Andy. It's nice and simple, yet full of cool detail. Great paint job too. Great color, Great application.

  12. I sincerely thank you all for your interest and encouraging comments. Randy, I had planned on painting this car all one color, but changed my mind on paint day and went with the silver top. Very glad I did. Welcome aboard, Dave. It's always good to have new faces and ideas around here, but if you're hanging out with Virgil, we may have to keep our eye on you. Cranky, I was planning on asking what your acronym meant, but I got it just moments ago. Thanks. Probably about one more update from putting this thing away and my mind is already wandering; deciding on what to concentrate on next.

  17. Thanks, Jim. I made it shiny just for you Mike, I keep pictures of the dark side to myself. Dome light and visors should be self explanatory. The light is a slice of aluminum tube with a slice of styrene rod in the middle. The aluminum tube edge was rounded down and polished with fine sandpaper and Dupont #7 rubbing compound. The visors are just pieces of styrene mimicking the shape of the moulded in visors. I added the wire "?" for some added detail and then just glued them to the headliner. Bill, thanks for the kind words, but you need to spend more time looking at Mr. Cruz's BMF work. His work and some of the other masters put mine (and many others) to shame. I've done a couple of cars with some very minor BMF work, but this is the first car with a significant amount of chrome. I may go back to hot rods to avoid the BMF for a while. I should have this one done in time for the Omaha show. I don't know if I have much else to enter
  18. Here's my best shot at BMF. I'm pleased that it didn't end up in a repaint. the rear bumper is just set in place here. While I had my X-Acto knife out, I came up with a dome light upgrade. Due to chopping the top, the original was mostly sanded off. This one looks much better anyway. and some sun visors thanks for checking in.

  21. Stellar job, Brad. So much fun stuff in this project it's hard to stop looking. I'll bet there's more than on member on the MCM forum thinking about building an old wagon of some sort after seeing this beauty.
  22. supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and then some Machining something this small must exagerate errors. An angle a degree or two off, or one piece a hair too short or long would cause fit issues that can easily be dealt with in plastic. Nothing that a couple swipes across some 220 grit, or a slight touch up with a file. But in metal there's no flexibility. Start trying to adjust things and it just gets worse. Pretty soon you need to toss out the part and start over. Looking at all the progress pics in your WIP, I don't see any such issues. The fit of each part to another looks great, very precise. Yet another indication of just how cool this little monster is.
  23. I tried some BMF on the master cylinder cap, but couldn't get all the wrinkles out. Then the thought of using aluminum popped up. Don't know why I didn't consider this from the start. I used a piece of 3/16" rod and turned it down to ~ .156" after measuring the existing plastic cap diameter. The top of the cap has a slight bevel leaving the middle of the cap flat. I also bent up some jewelry wire for a brake line. Just have to glue her in place now.
  24. Nice progress, Ira, and good idea going with the all-wheel drive. At first glance I was thinking the pumpkin should be offset so the drive shaft can clear the engine. Duh, then I remembered there's no engine in the way.
