  1. For the record, by the mid 1920's the official land speed record was only in the 150's (MPH). The average race speed at Indy didn't hit 150 MPH until the mid 1960's.
  2. Just stumbled across this one Art. Good to see you opening the panels. The detail gods are sucking you in The trunk hinges are looking great. Bonus points for using the brass flat strip.
  3. B.J.S.A. Building 1001 Highschool Drive Bellevue, Ne 68005 BJSA is the Bellevue Junior Sports Association (behind Bellevue East High School) contact information is at the top of this thread I'm not associated with this show, but we always enjoy going.
  4. Just a reminder that this contest and swap meet is upon us; Saturday October 5th One of the better vendor turnouts in the Midwest area.
  5. Thanks for the comments on the grille, Ryan, although I wished I would have taken more time laying out the bullets. I ended up crowding a few in on the ends to work around the headlights and center nose. Thanks, Jeff. my favorite engine yet Good to hear from you Virgil. Sorry I could work some grunge into this one. We have to deviate off the path occasionally Mike, I must say you look quite sporting in that outfit Thanks, David. BTW did you notice you're last name is misspelled?
  6. 2nd that ! Those filters are going to be one of those details you miss the first time and then go back and say "OMG, how'd he do that!" Love the ridges in the screen. That would look way cool with some red behind it.
  7. Sharp stuff, Mark. I assume this is the result of your etching process as well? Looks very promising.
  8. Thanks, Mark. A local modeler here in the KC area, Steve Barnes, encouraged me to try the nail polish. Glad I did. Lot's of interesting colors available Thanks, James. I love doing engine details. Glad you like it. The clear steering wheel comes in the kit. I just added some burnt orange to segments of it. Appreciate your interest, Erik, and by the way, love your sig quote by the Dalai Lama Thanks Mike. My focus on the grille was accurate spacing. That will make or break the end result. Glad you took a look, Marcos. Your Catalina was an inspiration in quality execution and a great example of your trademark perfect paint jobs Hey, Niko, thanks for the great comments. The chop is deceiving. It's so simple that all the work involved is not readily apparent. This is one of those "wish it was 25 times bigger" models. Thanks for the props on the engine, Richard. It's one of my favorite aspects of model building. Appreciate your interest, Ray Thank you for the generous comment, Larry Thanks, Carl. Comments from our resident, MCM Model Building booster club president are always appreciated ! Thanks, Ken. Don't know if you made it to the IPMS Nationals in Loveland, but I had the car there. Jim, I can honestly say I thought of you when I decided to go with a shiny finish on this one High, Rob. Always appreciate your point of view. Most of the glass trimming was at the bottom edge, with slight shaping and trimming at the top. You can't cut much from the top because on the windshield, the curve increases right as it meets the roof. On the rear, there is a stepped edge where the glass meets the window opening, so it was easier to trim from the bottom here as well. If you look closely at the photos, you can see gaps, mostly at the top. I considered going with scratch built windows, but in the end took the easy way out. I see it every time I look at the car Thanks Stephen, alot of work in that grille for such a minor change. Thanks for checking it out, Chris Thanks, Albie. I was just waiting for the combination of weather, time and Hey, Bill, my master fabricator buddy! Thank you so much for the words of support. Always, always much appreciated Mike, since your are known as a master customizer, I already assumed you would want this car, so I've already shipped it. It's on the way. Hope I got your address right... Bates Motel, correct? Dan, my builds aren't complete until I get your point of view; short but sweet. Thanks,
  9. that looks like a lot of cool Camaro for $250 bucks. Nice catch
  10. This is the AMT Pontiac Catalina from a WIP several months ago. Finally got some decent pics for an "Under Glass" post. The WIP can be found here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45830&hl= I chopped the top 1 1/2" and built a custom grille using straight pin heads on a scratch built grill shell. I also added the chrome bar across the top (under the front of the hood). The paint is air brushed Sally Hansen nail polish. The color is called "Hard to Get" although I'd describe it as burnt orange. The roof is covered in Model Masters AMC Sterling Silver metallic. Both are topped off with Tamiya rattle can clear. The AMT kit comes with 2 4-barrel carbs, but I replaced them with a Hilborn fuel injection setup. Between the injection system, manifold and various other under hood parts, there's around 140 scratch built pieces. I went with clear insulation on the plug wires, chrome wheel wells and a shaved firewall for the show car look. No photo etched parts were used.
  11. scratch building a radiator: cool out of aluminum: super cool being able to see the tubes through the core: priceless. You make good stuff, Bill
  12. In the "Real or Model" arena, there's very little that would give this one away. Nicely done and nicely presented.
  13. I can be a challenge to get a model car to look good with black paint, including photographing it. This one looks great. Nice looking engine bay too. The gold looks like the perfect color.
  14. Mark, the boots look great. With all those ribs, I'm surprised you're able to get them off the aluminum form. The rubber must be quite flexible. Great work in any case.
  15. Glad you all like it Chuck, I'll talk to Larry the Cable Guy about doing the video. He looks more like a modeler than anyone I can think of. John, keep singing it. We'll put you in the video too Mike, momma would pound them blue eyed groupies if she caught them lookin' my way Harry, I would think "Harry Koenig Junior" would be able to knock those Rolling Stone lyrics out in no time. Aren't you channeling him? "Very pleased" is an understatement, I am honored. I picked up my issue #179 Wednesday and saw the "Coming Next Month" shot; Awesome. Cannot thank you and the rest of the MCM crew enough for your support of the hobby.
  16. The lyrics to "The Cover of the Rollin' Stone" kept floating around in my brain, so I came up with this: * * * On the Cover of Model Cars Mag (to the tune of "The Cover of the Rolling Stone") I don't believe it Don't touch me Hey Greg, Hey Harry, tell them who we are Well, we're into model makin' We also love bacon and we're loved everywhere we show (That sounds like us) We build little hotrods and tiny little sports cars at five-hundred dollars a go (Right) We sniff all kinds of spills that give us all kind of thrills but the thrill we'll never know Is the thrill that'll getcha when you get your picture on the cover of Model Cars Mag (Model Cars) Wanna see my picture on the cover (Model Cars) Wanna buy five copies for my mother (Yes) (Model Cars) Wanna see my shiny car on the cover of Model Cars Mag (That's a very, very good idea) I got a freaky ole lady, name a cocaine Katy who snips parts off my sprues <<< I got my poor ole grey haired daddy paying my model club dues <<< Now it's all designed to blow our minds but our minds won't really be blown Like the blow that'll getcha when you get your picture on the cover of Model Cars Mag (Model Cars) Wanna see our pictures on the cover (Model Cars) Wanna buy five copies for our mothers (Yeah) (Model Cars) Wanna see my shiny car on the cover of Model Cars Mag Hey (Sure enough), I know how, air brush forever Ah, that's beautiful We got a lot of little teenage blue eyed groupies who do anything we say We got a genuine Indian Guru who's teaching us a better way We got all the PE that money can buy so building is never a drag (No) And we keep getting older but we can't get our photo on the cover of Model Cars Mag (Model Cars) Wanna see my picture on the cover (Model Cars) Wanna buy five copies for my mother (I want one) (Model Cars) Wanna see my shiny car on the cover of Model Cars Mag On the cover of Model Cars Mag (And us) Wanna see my picture on the cover (I don't know why we ain't on the cover, baby) (Model Cars) Wanna buy five copies for my mother (So beautiful fellows) (Model Cars) Wanna see my shiny car On the cover of Model Cars Mag I ain't kiddin' ya, it would make a beautiful cover Macro shot, right up close man I can see it now, it'd be on the front, shinin' man Aah, beautiful
  17. what Mike said I looked at your fuel filter and just shook my head; what a fantastic little piece ! On first glance at the opening picture with tweezers, my first thought was, OMG, he's making stuff so small he's using an electron microscope to show it. This is the kind of model I'd keep front and center on my desk, so I could admire the details over and over.
  18. The new benchmark for a safety harness system. Beautiful work Chris
  19. For K&S brass and aluminum, the numerous Hobby Lobby and Westlake hardware stores carry sheet strip and tubing. Hobby Haven, Hobby Town and Doc's Caboose carry the K&S stuff, plus either Plastruct or Evergreen brand styrene strips, tubing, rods and sheet stock. Threaded fasteners down to 00-90 can be found at Hobby Haven and Hobby Town, but they don't seem to keep their stock up too well. The best resource for that is the internet. Bill, most likely, threads his own miniature fasteners on the lathe, and extrudes his own tubing
  20. Randy, you never disappoint. You always catch the little details the rest of us miss. The relief cuts in the muffler pipe is a perfect example.
  21. Bill, the cage is coming along quite nicely. Looks like you spent some good time mitering the joints. They look tight.. Only thing is, I think one of your mufflers is upside down! Duh !
  22. This has got to be one of the Dumbest Questions Ever Asked On This Forum ....
  23. Chris, I think you just hit modeling nirvana. Dzus fastener springs, mumble, mumble, mumble ... jeez, most excellent work my friend !
  24. some of my favorites
