  1. Nice pictures, Hans- thank you very much for sharing!
  2. It is strikingly familiar, and it is still strikingly wrong. As I said, if there's some way that I can be negligent in maintenance to cause electrical problems, why then has the vehicle that sits next to it in the driveway had less than half the electrical problems in over twice the ownership time? If I'm so bad at maintenance, why doesn't the other vehicle have a LOT of electrical problems, since it's languished under my lousy maintenance for over twice the time. Here's the fact- electrically, our Durango is ######. Period. Great truck otherwise, but a piece of poo electrically. Despite this, I'm NOT a Chrysler hater. In fact, I LOVE Mopars. It will be a cold day in Hades before I buy another newer one, but I'll jump at the next good deal on an older one. One built back in the days when dealing with Mopar electrical only meant carrying an extra ballast resistor and a fire extinguisher.
  3. Well, it seems that everyone is splitting right down the middle- half trashing Chrysler, and half defending it. How about if I personally split down the middle? We have a 2001 Dodge Electrical Problem......err.....Durango. Mechanically, it's a fine truck. The mileage sucks, but you don't buy a V8 SUV if you're expecting mileage. Mechanically, in nearly 100,000 miles of our ownership, it's needed a lower ball joint (Not including the uppers that were done under recall) Not bad at all Electrically, it's a steaming pile of feces. Electrical problem after electrical problem after electrical problem. Let's see, in four years: throttle position sensor (2X), cooling fan relay, cam position sensor, crank position sensor, heater fan resistor, power window switch, ignition switch, and rear window motor. That's a recipe for electrical junk. When I made this claim on another board, some joker actually tried to tell me it was my fault, due to bad maintenance. If there was a shred of truth to that fantasy, then my Ford truck that I have had for 9 years (and has had the same "faulty" maintenance) would have had about twice the number of electrical problems as the Dodge. It's had less than half.
  4. Jairus, something is wrong with the link- it just keeps coming back to the same page. At least it did the first 27 times I tried it. Stupid Internet
  5. I second what Harry said- doing it that way looks good, looks authentic, and is easy. Just make sure you mask well. I use Krylon semi flat black, and it gives a nice "just Armoralled" look to the top. The same technique also works very nicely to simulate a sprayed-in bedliner for a truck, too.
  6. Rule #1- if you are unsure how a paint product will react with styrene and/or another paint product, TEST IT FIRST. Get a scrap body, chassis pan, interior, whatever- test it on scrap before laying it on your latest pride and joy. Rule #2- go back and read rule #1 again!
  7. Katie likes to have three projects going at a time. I recently established upon her a new rule that two of the three on the bench at a time have to be cars from the "stalled project" shelf. So, at the current time. I have three longrooofs on the bench, two of which are ready to come off. The non-stalled one is a 41 Ford Woody custom. I dumped the kit's FI flattie for the one from Revell's new 32 Ford sedan. It's nearly complete. I resurrected this one, and it's rolling along nicely. I changed my mind on color, but fortunately the basecoat you see here worked just fine with the new color scheme This one is REALLY close to finished, now. The dullcoat I put on the body after decalling looks awful, so this is gonna be a ten footer for sure. Believe it or not, this is my first resin body completion. I need only to finish up the surfboard and ice chest for the cargo area. In addition, I'm doing a figure paitning demo at an upcoming clubmeeting, so I'm modifying and prepping several (6-10) new versions of Katie for the demo. I've also already decided the next three to hit the bench as these three come off. Katie wants to go racing, so I'm going to let her build a Distinctive Motors sponsored race car (that's the new project) and the two stallers are Coupe Devil and a 60 olds custom
  8. I never knew you were a Marine, Clay. I slept really well last night, and I hold the corps responsible for it. A huge thanks to you and your brothers and sisters!
  9. Here's my daily driver, 96 F150 Eddie Bauer 4x4- this picture is a few years old, but it still looks the same, except for a couple of UT stickers in the back window. Despite currently tracing a fuel system problem that's annoying me, this has been a great truck, and I intend to get another 120K miles out of it. Here's the wife's daily driver- 2001 Dodge Electrical problem. Mechanically, an awesome vehicle. Electrically, a steaming pile of feces. And my project car. 68 Ford Fairlane formal roof. I'm no longer nearly the fat slob I was in that picture. I'm a much thinner slob these days. The Fairlane is a great project car, but I need to get rid of it- I want something older!
  10. I could hook you up with a 68 Fairlane formal roof kit. Scale 1:1
  11. Hmm as far as unbuilt kits, I'd have to say that my favorite would be an AAM resin 1960 Chrysler 300G But, I have some really cool restorables, too. FAvorites would be 61, 62 and 63 Ford pickups, 72 GMC Fleetside and Jimmy, and 67 Chevy Pickup.
  12. I'd love to have the 32 Chevy 2 n 1 come back. I had an unbuilt original in my hands last Saturday. There are about 1.5 million parts in the box! And we carefully cleaned each and every one of them.
  13. I'm about 95% certain that 1960 was the first year it wes available. I know it was available then, and I'm pretty certain it wasn't available before that. I have a builtup original 1960 issue of the kit- i bought it from the guy who built it- it's still in the original box, with instructions, and the unused parts.
  14. Abe, if you go Southwest out of Indy on 67, Owen is the next county after Morgan. Spencer is the main town in Owen County. If you KEEP going on 67, Greene is the next county after Owen. I think Linton is the biggest town in Greene County. I don't know for certain, because we alway do our hunting and fishing in the country between Bloomfield and Worthington. I'm not sure the name of the area I was in in Columbus. It was just east of 31, just north of 25th St. Streamside Drive is the name of the street where my friend lives. The houses across the street from him back up to HawCreek. Bill and Lance (SCIMA's president and vice president) worked hard all day on the project. In fact, Bill went so hard and long, he almost passed out. Myself and another member were along for a while, too.
  15. Greene County would have to be my pick for best place in Indiana. But Owen and Brown are both beautiful, too. I spent today in Columbus helping a fellow club member who got flooded. He has a split level, and only his basement got it, but it was terrible. His whole neighborhood loked awful. You can look at a million pictures of flood damage, but until you're out in it, you'll never really see it. Southern Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin- you're all in my prayers.
  16. Abe- it's starting to look like you may not miss the figure painting demonstration after all. It might be postponed to the July meeting. We've got one member who has had some flooding, one member whose father had bad flooding, and two members we haven't heard from yet. At the moment, we're looking at the possibility of making the June meeting a "bring your boots and gloves" meeting, and helping out some of our SCIMA family that have been hit.
  17. Hehe- I fall right about in the middle of all y'all. I love my Mom, she's mostly a sweetheart, but there's another side to her. It's a side she would deny, and it's a side she doesn't even know that I know about. It's better for everyone that she doesn't know that I know. Still, I love her, and try to do as much as I can without sacrificing my own life (and I find a pretty good balance) She can be very generous, sweet, and loving(almost all of the time). She can also be manipulative and deceitful (very rare, but very painful when it happens) She's no saint, but she's not bad at all. She's mine, and I love her.
  18. Abe and Joe, I'm glad to hear things aren't so bad for you guys. I called our club president's house today, and spoke to his wife- they're nice and dry (Michigan Ave) but one of our club members had his basement seriously flooded. I hope the nasty rainstorm we had today doesn't make things worse down there. At work it rained hard enough that one of our rof drains couldn't keep up and we ended up with a big leak inside the building. It didn't rain hard for long, though- hopefully, things will be OK
  19. George, I hate it that you drove all the way over here to get rained out. I know it's not that big of a deal in comparison to what the flooded people are facing, but it's still a pain in the neck. My wife, daughter and I were out at Goodguys on Friday, when the weather was darn near perfect. Here's a link to my pictures. Maybe, in a way, this will make things a bit better for you. http://public.fotki.com/fbama73/goodguys-i...drags-pictures/ Bill, to answer your question, they have the Flatrock River and Haw Creek (pretty decent size) running through town, so they took a LOT of runoff from up North My model club is based in Columbus, so I have several friends besides Abe who may be affected. I mentioned Abe because he's the only one I know who posts here.
  20. There's been some seriously nasty flooding In central and southern Indiana the last couple of days. Indianapolis and pretty much everywhere south have seen their worst flooding in almost a hundred years. Columbus Indiana, where Abe lives got it bad. The county is under a state of emergency order, and police are describing the town as "closed." There are a lot of people seriously affected. Send up a good thought for them. If you're inclined, a prayer would be better. Abe, if you're reading this, sound off so we know you're OK.
  21. Joe, you shouldn't post links to logic, common sense and constitutional rights in a forum where there is debate on gun ownership. Dealing with the anti gun crowd using logic and facts isn't really fair. It's not like taking a gun to a knife fight, it's more like taking a tactical nuke to a Scrabble game.
  22. Abe- We love seeing finished and WIP stuff! Bring anything that pertains to the hobby. We have one older gentleman who has an UNBELIEVABLE stash of old kits, and he usually brings one or two every month for us to drool over. Last month it was an original MPC 66 Charger and an original AMT 64 Grand Prix. Anything car-related and cool is welcome. I take in my hot wheels restros and customs, people gring in car magazines. It's all good. We're very informal, friendly and just like to share the hobby with others. I got kits with your little guys names on them. see ya in July!
  23. Abe, the majority of our club is from Columbus. We're a small club, but I really like it. The average meeting will have a half dozen guys, but if you come and bring the boys, we'll be bigger and better. We meet the second Saturday of every month, same place, at 3pm. You and the boys are very welcome at any and every meeting. The only thing that ever changes it is weather or if the date conflicts with a model contest relatively locally. We have our own contest every September at the Bartholemew Co fairgrounds. How old and how many are your boys, and are they into snap kits or are they past that already? I have a slew of leftover Revell 34 Ford snappers left over from last year's Goodguys make and Take. I was told if I didn't take the kits, they would be trashed, so I took them, and have been getting them into the hands of kids ever since. If it's something they'd like, I'll bring one for each and any that would be interested. And we'll plan on it being the July meeting, since you have the reunion next weekend. You'll need to make sure to remind me before the meeting, though- I'm notoriously forgetful. You can reach me at bfishburn@indy.rr.com or (317)514-2232 Looking forward to getting to meet you in person!
  24. Oh, I know Columbus VERY well. In fact, the model club that I'm a member of (SCIMA) is based in Columbus. We're pretty informal, just a bunch of guys getting together to talk about the hobby. While you've always been welcome, you may consider this to be a formal invitation to come to a meeting, sir. If you'd like, I'll even engrave an invite for you! The next meeting is Saturday the 14th of June at 3pm. The meetings are held at the bank (used to be Home Federal, but the name recently changed) on 25th Street East of 31. This month we're having a figure painting demonstration. relating to other recent posts: Yes, both political parties suck. We need more choices. I'm sick of voting for the lesser of two evils. Yes, Laura Bush's car has killed as many people as Ted Kennedy's. However, Ted gets the target painted on him for attempting to wipe his backside with the US Constitution. BTW, I absolutely despise Ted's politics, but I hope the doctors can cure his brain cancer. I sincerely hope he recovers. Andy, your comment about guns being more likely to injure their owners or family members, while possibly true, is pretty weak. If keeping people safe is indeed your goal, there are FAR more productive targets for your crusade, such as playground equipment. In fact, if keeping people safe is indeed your true goal, you might want to take a look at crime per capita in the cities that have the most stringent gun control laws. It's a proven fact time and time again- more gun laws=more crime. Anyone want to try and say that the 2nd amendment doesn't apply to individuals? Please?
  25. ^ You like bluegrass, too? See- I knew I should pay attention to you when you talk about music!
