MPC Dukes of Hazzard 1/16th scale Charger
Chuck Most replied to Dragline's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Maybe not- seeing as how the car in the show was said to have been a former race car (but wasn't IRL), maybe making this stock (or at least closer to stock) would actually help to widen its appeal- to both DOH and factory stock builders. Leave the NASCAR-spec stuff in it, and that's at least three genres the kit could cover. -
Not sure on the relevence being this is a Chrysler, but if I recall the Desotos came in 276, 291, 330 and 345 displacements, and the Dodge Red Rams were 241, 270, 315, and 325. Depending on year/model/etc.

And whats with the moustaches? Does one have to be a moustache enthusiast in order to be a police officer? (I'm only half joking...)

SJS did make them- I'm not sure who ended up with the molds for them though. -

That's about the only thing really stopping me from buying the kit, to tell you the truth. -
That's one of the first things you'll find out when going from spray can to airbrush... unlike with the can, you SHOULD get in nice and close with the airbrush. I had the same thing happen the first time I tried out an airbrush, bringing it closer to what I was painting (about 4 to 6" away) helped get me in the ballpark.

Kind of a red-orange, like a Fram-brand filter. (The kit filter may even represent a Fram-built unit, not really sure.) I've been using Ford Engine Red (really more of a medium red-orange) for them, and it seems to be an fairly close match, if not perfect. -
Working with BMF can be a lot of fun, or it can be a huge pain in the rear. Mostly depends on what the last task you accomplished was. Looks like you did a fantastic job on the foil.

Models in Walmart.....
Chuck Most replied to coolplastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let me guess... Johnson Controls? They make about 90% of the car batteries out there. To hear Advance Auto Parts tell it, they AREN'T the same- the supplier (store chain) tells the manufacturer they want this group size, this CCA, and this warranty at this price, and the batteries are manufactured to suit. I will say that lately Walmart has been pretty lax with the warranties on their Neverstart batteries- the last few months I was at Advance, people were defecting from Walmart to us and Auto Zone. Yeah... what is up with all the checkout lanes when there are never more than a one-hand-finger-count open? Never understood that. Unsupervised children (and certain groups of the elderly ) are always fun to deal with... and never mind the fact you had to park three miles away from the store and it's raining. Tonio- Glad you dig the VW. -

A valuable lesson learned that day... never get your vehicle serviced at an establishment where you can also buy control top pantyhose, a ten pound frozen turkey, have your vision tested and your taxes done. The whole 'vehicle service' department at such a place might be a bit of an afterthought... -

I don't know about Walmart, but some 'discount' retailers do sell watered down'versions of name brand products. Purple Power purchased from Dollar General seems to take just a little bit longer to strip paint than Purple Power bought from Advance Auto Parts. It's five bucks for the two-gallon jug at DG, and just over eight bucks at Advance. Could the Dollar General stuff be diluted? Or is my tinfoil hat not doing it's job? I'll let you decide. As far as any of Walmart's house brands, I've never cared much for any of them. Well, my dog did like the Ol' Roy foods, but then again he enjoyed eating a cat turd every now and then, so I guess that really isn't much of a reccomendation. The thing I really like about a smaller, dedicated hobby shop as opposed to a big-box retailer (and one that's been mentioned already) is the service. At my closest shop I regularly get discounts and maybe a freebie every so often, simply because the owner knows me personally and I've been buying from him for over a decade now. At Walmart, that just plain ain't gonna happen. (Poor grammar intentional.) And this shop listens to its customers and stocks what they want. He's the only place in a good 30 mile radius selling Moebius and Lindberg kits? Why? Because the customers wanted them in stock! And he carries MCM, because every other nearby shop carries the Kalmbach mags. Sure, Walmart looks at sales figures and stocks what they notice is selling, but it isn't as personal and to the point as you'd get at a mom-and-pop type establishment. -
Wow- its almost a shame that chassis and engine will be covered up with a body. Great work with the Alclad. Like you said- up close and in person, the difference between Alclad and other Chrome paints is night and day.

It shrugs off Purple Power, Super Clean, and Bleach White as well. Krylon REALLY likes to stay put once it is applied.

The Revell gold looks to be a near-perfect match for the 1:1 engine paint.
