I am like alot of you. I have tried different ones and come to prefer Ambroid. Only problem is I can't find it anywhere now so I am using Tenax for the time being. I don't know how any of you use the Plastruct stuff. I picked up a bottle of it after not being able to get the Ambroid, opened the bottle for maybe 30 seconds and it took two days to get rid of that smell. It went back and got replaced with Tenax. As far as mixing things, I am not a chemist, therefore, I don't mess with that. Les

If you have a flea market around, you might find one there. I picked one up at a local flea market for $25 new. Les -
Photo-Etch tiny bending help!!!

I don't think you can dim florescent lights as they are a tube filled with gas. You can't really light part of the gas, it's all or nothing. But, I have always wanted one also. It might be a nuisance for modeling though. Your work would be backlit making everything on the table a silloette. Les -

Absolutely! there couldn't be a more perfect mesh out there for PB grilles. Unless someone were to make the oval mesh, that would be sweet! HeHe! Funny!..... everytime the phrase "and then there's" pops in my head or outta my mouth, that theme comes to mind. I honestly can't remember whether I liked the show or not, I was too young, but this little piece of that theme has been burned in my head for all of these years. Good Times is another one. Phew.....DY-NO-MITE!! HaHa! -

Rodney, Thanks! The latches, known as slam locks, are from Don Mills. They're on Ebay quite often in square and round. He also has a website, though most of his stuff pertains to 1/87 and fire apparatus. http://www.donmillsmodels.com/ -

...and then there's Maude.......AHHIIIIIII mean paint. The tires came from KFS by way of Sourkraut http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/ All that remains is clear coat on the body and then assembly. Thanks for looking, Les -
Be easy on me, it's my first time...... ...posting a build on MCM that is. This one started with the Italeri PB 378. I stretched the frame and added a third drive axle from the PB 377 kit as well as the 70" stand up sleeper. I scratchbuilt the headache/storage rack. In addition, I modified the kit wheels in order to make the hubs more believable. The kit supplied Detroit Series 60 got plumbed, wired and decaled. Valve cover and air intake manifold is Alclad II polished alum. Detroit blue can be picked up at most auto parts stores, Frieghtliner dealer or Detroit service centers. Stripped all of the chrome. This was replaced with Alclad II polished aluminum. I also cut out a drop visor. The grille mesh is from Plano model products. http://www.planomodelproducts.com/frames.html (HO scale trains/scale builder mat.{slotted design is "Apex", Morton is round hole}) Thanks for coming, more to follow, Les

Color question

The midnight cowboy is a Chevy truck. It just has a custom front end to replicate a Pete. I believe there was a version called Sneaky Pete as well. Les -

Rick, Nice details on your build! Looking forward to more updates. Les Any chance you could post future updates with larger pics? 640 x 480 is a good size and not too large for the screen. -
Help, please

Scott, Why go through the trouble of stripping it if you're going to step on it? Les Oh wait, I get it! Body mods are easier with the paint removed. -

Heavens ta Mergatroid! Am I allowed to quote myself? "You are most certainly one of the craftsmen that allow this hobby to venture into the genre of art. Most impressive! " x2 Though the Retro Vette is a magnificent build, this masterpiece is in a world all its own! Regards, Les -
I think 800 hp is plenty to scare the heck outta ya. But then, I prefer a bend in the road. Feeling the tires bite is as nice as being buried in the seat. Les

My name is Les, I live in Chattanooga. Mostly, I am interested in trucks, pro street and pro touring. I just got back into building about 2 yrs ago after a 11 -12 year hiatus. Have been building mainly trucks since although I have a couple unfinished prostreet projects from back before the break and a couple of pro tourings planned. Sure wish I had read this before today, I might've driven up for it. Maybe next year. Any other shows or clubs in the area sharing similar interest, I am not into military at all. Ya'll take care, Les

Real or Model #81 FINISHED!
mountaindewd replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I say real.... ....although the light on the building is a bit confusing. The main thing that says model is the ground, looks like different shades of gray misted on a surface. The conv. boot and the side of the frame kinda small scaleish also. Les -
Ford Super Duty or 73-79 Ford kit??
mountaindewd replied to 06FordTough's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can search this number on a popular auction site; 220378790703 There are no kits of the Superduty, don't ask me why 'cause they would sell like hotcakes. Les -
I found this at Wally world in the craft section where the beads and bracelet stuff is. It scales to about 1/2 inch or so. The crimps included are kinda big for 1/24 - 25 scale so you might look into some brass tubing just big enough for the cable to double up inside and epoxy . I haven't used it yet so no help there. heavy tow truck cables
mountaindewd replied to billd64's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Go to Walmart, in the craft section, you can find actual steel cable which scales to about a 1/2 inch. It is with the beads and bracelet stuff and comes in 15 ft pieces. Les -
60's styled 2005 "RETRO-VETTE" COUPE
mountaindewd replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hey Dave, New member here. I've been sitting here for the last hour and a half reading through this thread and must say your craftsmanship is inspiring. The details are beautiful. I took about 12 yrs. off from the hobby and have slowly been working back into it for a couple years now, more or less trying to hone simple scratching skills building custom sleepers for trucks and a few kits got finished along the way. I have a few rods planned for the bench and want to experiment with tricks like the doors and hatch to start. Could you tell me what you use to cut them out with to keep the gaps so tight? Thanks for posting the progress on this build! You are most certainly one of the craftsmen that allow this hobby to venture into the genre of art. Most impressive! Regards, Les
