  1. Jesse, You can build motor mounts the same way the 1:1 guys do it just smaller. fairly simple, figure and upside down V with the point cut off down far enough that the motor fits at the height you want. Tubing or small square stock cut at an angle would work. on 1:1, the motor mounts usually bolt to the frame around the front cross member and are extended up to the sides of the engine block. Steve
  2. Thanks for the input everyone! Seems that I am on the right track with what I have done, just need to keep working with it. Steve
  3. Here are the photos! Thanks Again for all your help
  4. Thanks everyone! Wheels are from the Hogan's Heros Jeep. I will post pics tomorrow. Steve
  5. What is the best way to cast wheels? I am trying to cast copies of a wheel i need so I don't have to destroy the original to make the modifications i want. did a couple 1 piece molds but not having the greatest results so far. Anyone have any suggestions?
  6. Sorry, no pictures to post, But there is progress to report. 1st attempt to carve an intake for the LS was a failure.....uh....we will call it a learning experience on how not to make an intake. I did get a bell housing carved out of wax and a mold made. Haven't poured yet sincethe molds I need to pour do not use enough resin to ensure a correct ratio. Instructions say half an ounce minimum, and I am not there yet. Need to make a couple molds for wheels so I will get there soon. Hoping to be able to post some pics this weekend. I am just starting with the resin copies, so maybe I am being too litteral with the amounts. Can you pour smaller amounts and still get good results? Thanks for looking, all comments are welcome. Steve
  7. Nice work! I love to see unique projects. I Look forward to watching your progress on this
  8. Got mine yesterday and it is impressive! Instructions are clear, and the parts are marked so the guesswork is gone. My mind is a virtual vortex of ideas for this kit...... Steve
  9. I asked and Atlas sent me a scale drawing of the Atlas II. It's on my list to make one for the 48 jeep. I have an aftermarket NP205 sitting here too though.
  10. I love old trucks! This one looks great Jeff, nice work. I see what appears to be an LS powerplant, what are you using for trans and transfer case?
  11. Thanks everyone for your comments and support! Sorry for the slow progress. Got a radiator support made, but can't install that until i get a radiator and decide where the engine is gonna sit in the chassis. I did get a couple kits with LS engines and decided on the 99 Silverado engine. BUT, can't leave well enough alone, the intake isn't right for what I have in mind so I started to carve a copy of the dual Quad offered for 1:1 LS engines by Edelbrock. Still debating dual quad or tri-power....and I have to come up with a bell housing, trans and transfer case....Lots of work to do and not enough time in the day!
  12. Great work on the frame and suspension, you have definitley gotten my attention! I can't wait to see where you go with this. Steve
  13. The body is a resin kit from Resin Motor Replicas. I think there is a link to the site in the thread I started with this project on the workbench. Check out the website, he has a lot of stuff that you can't find anywhere else. This kit is of a '50-'59 model, so I have to make some changes to make it look like a '48. the biggest change is the grill. there are a few other minor differences between the years but the basic body stayed the same through the entire production run of the truck .
  14. Thanks Jeff, I think trucks should have manual trans, I will have to look for the Camaro kit. How is the CJ-8 Scrambler coming? Ready for resin yet?
  15. Sean, I too am definitley interested in your rollback kit. Sounds like once you post how and where to get the kit you will sell quite a few. Count me in! Steve
  16. Got a little work done . Seems like life has been getting in the way all summer. Cut out the entire front section between the fenders, filed a mounting flange the thickness of the new piece and replaced the whole front end. Although I think it might be a bit thick, I am going to add a radiator support behind this grill to replicate the 1:1 . .010 sheet should be enough for the support and help hold the whole front end together. Now another dilemma; 1:1 has taken a different track for the power plant. Was planning on an old school 350 Chev but Now an thinking more toward an LS motor. I think I will have an easier time finding the trans and transfer case for the newer power plant than trying to hunt up the older pieces. Anyone know where I can find a decent LS engine in scale? Thinking one of the newer pick up kits might have what I need, Thanks for looking! As always, comments are always welcome. Steve
  17. A little Progress. Grew a pair and started some cust. Cut the inner fendrs off the chassis, they were not correct for the 1:1, but they were used to help locate the cab on the chassis at the correct height so I will have to come up with another method for that. the 1:1 has a mount for the front of the cab/fender unit at the bottom of the radiator support, Think I will try to do that. I was planning to add that front crossmember anyway Added a brace to the underside of the cab fenders in preparation for cutting the grill out. Thanks for looing comments are always welcome. steve
  18. i have moved this thread to the trucks/commercial area of this forum. Go there and check out the grill pieces a friend made for me! Steve
  19. shucks, none of the photos turned out right. on the right side of the picture with the grill pieces is a forming jig to use to get the correct angles in the right places on the flat grill.
  20. Ok,I started this in the on the workbench thread, but it seems to be more appropriate here. I haven't done much with it yet, but I got some parts and have to share them with you! Got some axle center sections so there has been progress.http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee406/steve7119/DavesGrillWork05-28-11.jpg" /> I was lamenting to a buddy of mine that I was having trouble figuring out how do make the correct grill for this truck since the model is of a 50-59 Jeep. He told me he thought he could help, he works in manufacturing, specifically, this is the kind of thing he does for a living. Sent him a photo, we got together with the measurements on his CAD program and 2 weeks later this is what he gave me back! I asked him for a master that I could cast in resin since I have several versions of this truck I want to do. He was talking about laser cutting something from plastic so I thought, great, the back will be flat and the grill bars will be strong enough to cast in resin. Needles to say, I have to take this truck up a notch. I can now recreate the inside of the grill and engine compartment just as it is in 1:1. Thanks for looking, Comments are welcome!
  21. Dude, This is not a phantom! Pontiac made 2 of these as concept cars. I saw one at the 1977 Chicago Auto Show. Pontiac Type K Sportwagon is what it was called. I have a built model in the under glass section on this site. You got a goo eye, the airfix kit and the monogram kit can be combined to make a full detail kit. I have the article from SAE March 1981 issue where they gave the history and a how to to build combine those 2 kits scanned and saved in my computer. If you want the instructions on where to cut what, I can send it to you. Steve
  22. Thanks Jeff Lots of good info there, What is the status of your CJ8 Scrambler? I wnat one when they are ready
  23. Very Kool idea on this truck. Great Build! don't get bogged down, keep plugging away on it. (like I can talk ) I would love to see this finished.
  24. Can anyone advise the inside diameter of the tires offered by Ma's Resin? Alan has a number of tires I could use with at least a couple projects but every aftermarket tire I have has an ID that is bigger than the kit rims I want to use.
