Hi, I am building again and my first for a long time is an AMT Ertl 1968 Camaro Z/28 kit # 6559 released in 1989. I assume it is similar to the recent release. Anyone know of a build review? I have it painted, I am mostly interested to know if the front and rear pans, as well as the radiator, can actually be installed before the body is installed on the chassis. Thanks for any help.

2008 Corvette Kits, Snaps, Promos
7000in5th replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just got this note from an eBay promo vendor: "MIC (the promo supplier) went out of business last December and now there is a new company, Ivy Promotions, that is in the process of procuring distribution rights from GM. Most all the paperwork is complete and now they are negotiating with Revell. At the most there will be three Corvette promos, one coupe-one convertible-one pace car. There may only be one or, possibly, none for 08. Knowing the tenacity of the management at Ivy, as long as they can get the advance orders (which was a problem for the 2007 Z06) they will build them. That's it in a nut shell and I'll have them as soon as they hit the ground. Thanks for asking!" By the way, has anyone announced a 2009 Corvette ZR1 kit? -
Ismael, One of my favorite racers! Excellent build, keep up the great work!

Hi to all the Corvette fans, I know I am a little behind the curve on happenings in the model world but I do like to keep up on Corvette models. Have any 2008 Corvette kits, snaps or promos (including pace cars) of any kind been oficially announced? The 2009 Corvette build (including the new ZR1) starts July 14. Where are the 2008 model kits? Wow - I didn't know there was so much bad stuff out there, and I've been building since 1949. As a Corvette fan, I hate to even show this one but here goes: I had it listed as a Doyusha 1978 Corvette 1:24 kit. However, as bad as it is, it doesn't seem to have a '78 "bubble back" rear window but it does appear to have a "Stingray" nameplate and rubber front bumper guards so, for the sake of argument, let's call it a '75 or '76. And, in fairness to Doyusha, I seem to remember faintly that it was tooled by someone else and Doyusha produced it for a while. I also remember some Arii C3 Corvette 1:24 kits that were badly rendered. Anyone have more info on any of this?

Great job, Bill! I just remembered that I did one of those about 53 years ago, based on a friction model. Not quite as detailed as yours but it does have that '50's flavor, three tone paint, Von Dutch, Caddy wheel covers and all:

Richard Prince: Eat Your Heart Out...
7000in5th replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great job, Ismael!! At the 2007 Mid-Ohio ALMS race, I noticed the sponsor logo below the grille on the C6.R and when I saw Richard, I commented on how cool that was. He replied that "It helps to have friends in the right places". He must have been referring to you, right Ismael? By the way, that cutie-pie flag-holder person looks even more like Jody Foster in person!! -

Can You Identify This Car?

Well, Bill, drag out your carbon fiber decals - the roof, skirts and splitter are all natural carbon fiber. At least it blends in better in this new Cyber Gray Metallic color. -

1960 Corvette Question
7000in5th replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rummaging thru the spares box netted a set of wheel covers that , when trimmed, look similar to the real thing, except for the recessed center: Anyone know what kit the original came from? It does have crossed flags in the center. -

Excellent, Ismael, you know I am jealous! Did you get lots of detail shots on the DVD? -
Hi all, Anyone have a clue about where to get a 1:25 scale set of 1960 Corvette hub caps for a big brake car: ....or a reasonable facsimile thereof? Thanks,

Best Paint Tutorial?

Thanks for the replies. He checked out the links and was very impressed. -
If you like GT1 racers, including the Saleen S7R, here is a comprehensive list of 1:24 and 1:25 scale bodies for slot racing. They are required to have very complete interiors and should be buildable as decent shelf models. Slot Racing Le Mans Data Base

Hi all, A friend and long time military modeler has decided to build a complete set of Corvette models and is having trouble getting good paint jobs. He asked me some questions but it has been so long since I painted a model that I could only give fundamentals but not the latest techniques. Where could I direct him to an available tutorial on model car painting the covers the basics and gives him the latest techniques and materials? An online freebie would be good but any up-to-date source would be helpful to both of us. Thanks,
-
Incredible, Ismael!! Now I know why the Corvette Team guys were so impressed at Petit Le Mans this year when you showed them pix of the model. Now, for your next challenge - a model of that same car, C6R-004, now owned by Luc Alphand Aventures, shown with Corvette factory drivers Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin teamed with Vosse and Franchi to finish 6th at the July, 2007 FIA GT Spa 24 hour race: (Complete with 24 hours worth of weathering, of course.)

Above - 1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 Boxer Berlinetta - 1:24 scale - Picture taken 2005-12-23 - Built in about 1990 Above - It is a racing version but I liked the "track day" look without the racing graphics I don't remember the kit manufacturer but it was Japanese curbside with a very shallow interior to allow for batteries and a motor.

Good luck with the rebuild. I hope you know about the obvious error in the way the side mounted air intake grille on the hood is oriented. The pins on the back only allow it to be mounted this way: The above is WRONG - WRONG - WRONG! Here are some actual trucks showing the proper mounting. The bars should be vertical: And since it is an air intake, it should have a screen behind it (or at least some black paint).
