I have looked at several cars in the "under glass" and one in particular in the "big boyz" section and have seen some AMAZING paint jobs. I keep reading about applying several coats of primer and paint, and sanding in between. My question is, how far do you sand it after primer gets laid? Do you take it all the way to where you can see mold again? Also when you lay the first coats of paint, I'm not sure what good sanding will do? Please forgive me for asking a stupid question lol, i'm just trying to learn. I know I know, it takes practice

Ok I was at my LHS yesterday and was looking at some glues because I'm tired of being let down by the tesors glue in the orange tube. The sales guy told me that BOTH Tenax and Ambroid were no longer made, that the companies were out of business. Am I the last one to hear this, or am I just crazy? I'm thinking both.

I just wanted to make sure I could get one that would fit. And no, I dont have that much of an imagination lol. I'm too new into the hobby. I'll get better. Thanks guys!

I am doing a revell '49 merc and with some unforseen circumstances, the motor was REALLY messed up bad. I've already had to reorder some parts from revell's website, so I can't get anymore free replacement parts. My question is, what motor would fit best in the chassis of the merc?

Does anyone know where to get ambroid pro-weld online? I can't find it anywhere, whether its my LHS or online?

I was snooping around on the ole internet, and decided to google "how to get rid of orange peel". I seem to be a champ at GETTING the orange peel to show up, not avoiding it. Anyway, I found this tutorial on another website. Let me know what you think. Any criticisms or tips are helpful

I have not been able to find any ambroid pro-weld anywhere. From what I've heard it may have been taken off the market. However, I DID find a product called "same stuff professional plastic welder". It claims to be basically the same as ambroid pro-weld. Has anyone seen this? Also, I've seen that Tamiya putty "basic type" is discontinued. What is a good alternative for this?

Thanks for all the comments guys (and gals). Are the airbrushes that you guys mentioned fairly easy to clean?

Sorry for the mulitple questions, but I thought I'd include them all in one post...here goes. I've heard a lot about single and double action airbrushes. What do ya'll use? and why? I have one that only cost about $25 that I got from my lhs. its ok. I am using canned air right now, but am saving up for a better airbrush and compressor. Any and all help is much appreciated. I'm building the '49 mercury and have an ill fitting hood. I dont have a file that I am comfortable using, so my question is, Can i use the putty to fill in that gap? What do you guys recommend?

I was at a "gathering" of a new model car club and one of the guys was talking about a show in Arizona that he has been invited to. Evidently its a HUGE, invite only show/contest of 150 of the worlds best modelers. Do you guys know anything about this, or a website I could go to? He said that the people who run the show are actually looking for working windows, door locks, lights, and other things. That blew my mind! Was he pulling my leg or is this true?

I know this sounds cheap, but does anyone have any back issues of MCM that they dont use anymore? I was in my LHS a few days ago and was looking at the magazine rack. They didn't have any MCM issues, but there was one by scale auto magazine. I know, I know, "the other guys". Anyway, this may be in the wrong section, I think it maybe needs to be in the "swap, trade, or free" section, but if it needs to be moved, I'll move it. I'd be willing to pay postage, but thought I'd ask. Thanks guys and gals. Ben

Ok, I'm working on a 49 mercury and have looked over most of the parts in the kit. on the inside of the body, there are about 4 small circles that I want to buff out. I dont think they're supposed to be there. what would I use to remove these circles. I dont know whether to use fine grit sandpaper or that, and excuse me for not knowing what its called. Its dark red, almost clay in consistency and comes in a small tube. I've seen other guys do body work with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont mean to sound like an idiot, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Guess what I got todaaaayyy!!! I bought me a 1949 Mercury special edition model. This will be my first real serious, "gonna take my time and do it right this time" model. I will post some pics if I can. I dont have a digital camera, but will cell phone pics work? Hopefully if it all turns out good, I'll post some pics. Happy building! Ben

the plastic is molded in black, and I want to primer it grey, so that i can then choose which color(s) to paint. I'm using enamel paints.

I have a BUNCH of grey paint. I have no primer. Can i use the grey paint as a primer? I'm still VERY new to this so be nice lol
