  1. Killer build, and I see that this model and the story have migrated to dozens of sites around the Web. Somehow, I can't find a single picture of the 1:1. Could this be an April Fool thing?
  2. I'm missing something here...what's the part? Where does it go? Any pictures?
  3. Which kit is this? Entex 1/16? PS: I saw one build of it where the builder had made the spaceframe white; this is probably because early factory prototype photos showed it that way in order to highlight its structure to the press. Production models had black spaceframes. I have tons of info on Gullwings. feel free to PM me with any questions or reference needs. And that's a significant chunk of bodywork missing from the rear quarter windows and fenders. Do you have something special in mind?
  4. Perhaps the dean of automotive journalism; former editor of Car and Driver, founder of Automobile magazine. Though he was famously cantankerous, he was very nice to me when I called him out of the blue to get some research material for ads I was creating for Exxon. http://www.autoweek.com/article/20110328/CARNEWS/303289999

  7. I bet most of you (especially Bob Downie) can tone down those chrome wheels. Another shot here: http://www.toycollector.com/index.php?option=com_myblog&show=nuremberg-2011-tamiyas-new-1-24-lexus-lfa-kithtml&Itemid=87734 You can find a few more if you search in Google images.
  8. Or you could have your wheels chromed and mask off the parts you don't want to paint.
  9. Doesn't this sound a lot like what is said by the occasional trolls we get here? This is from CNN: "You have proven to the world that you are not civilized, that you are terrorists -- animals attacking a safe nation that did nothing against you," Gadhafi had said in an earlier televised speech. Anyway, I think the flame wars on this forum have become much more subdued. That quote just sounded a lot like some of the whining I used to see here.
  10. What is the problem with the original poster asking about this supplier and if anyone knows of a better way of dealing with them? This forum is filled with experienced people who can help. Isn't that what our forum is about – Helping people with our experience?
  11. You are welcome, Mr. Prisnovski.
  12. It's always tricky to anglicize spellings of words from different alphabets, but the typical definition of "minion" is an underling or sycophant who is devoted to a master. The more common English spelling of the word about men who pray together is "minyan." Any spelling is probably okay. The New York Times made a list of 132 spellings of "Gadhafi"– Khaddafy, Qaddafi, etc.
  13. I don't think I'd expect any new products or shipping from Japan for a while.
  14. This makes me look like I have less hair than is actual. I also look a lot more like George Clooney. Or was it Brad Pitt? Maybe Tyrone Power. I have also been told that I look like Sean Connery (by a girl who had done at least five rails of coke with some Jagermeister chasers).
  15. British Shell commercial featuring vintage F1 Ferraris racing through the streets of Rome, Monte Carlo, Rio. Crank up the volume and enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=1_kwxzU4wL4&vq=medium
  16. Plus the thanks of a grateful nation.

  18. They did an anniversary version in 2008, the B.A.T. 11. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/13/detroit-2009-stile-bertone-alfa-romeo-b-a-t-11-is-not-the-next/
  19. I don't know if he actually builds model cars, but I've been to the Petty museum and it's loaded with shelf after shelf of his diecast collection from Franklin Mint, Danbury, etc. etc. He also has one heck of a gun collection.
  20. I'm always perplexed when I see posts here of modelers who only build in one scale. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but to me it's always about my interest in the car and the kit, and not really anything else. However, I do get extremely irritated when I order aftermarket parts that are listed as "fits 1/24 & 1/25" in scale that are too large for 1/25, such as wheels and tires.
  21. Grandt Line model railroad accessories has chain in 6" lengths, about 1/8" wide, made out of a plastic-like material called Delrin. If anyone knows of a smaller size, I'd really like to know. http://www.grandtline.com/model_railroad/transmission/transmission_sprocket_chain.htm
  22. Once again, and as usual every month, my issue arrived in pristine, archival condition as if it just came off the press. However, I have a content problem. The new issue is great overall, but it contains a very problematic article. The scratchbuilding bit on machine-turned metal is hard to follow, leaves out key information, and shows a result that is far from precision (not to mention the weird conversion of a blower Bentley to left-hand drive). This is a subject that deserves some very professional attention, and this ain't it. Surely there's someone out there who can create this material by photo-etching at different scales; Fred Hultberger at Fotocut can work miracles with relief etching. It would be to MCM's credit to find a way to get it done. I do lots of 30s cars, and this is one of the biggest omissions in the hobby.
  23. It's a great build, and the overspray on the headlight covers looks perfect. I wonder how that came to be on the 1:1. Repairs during the race?

  25. Kudos to a hometown boy from Knoxville. The local paper blasted it all over page 1 and the sports section.
