Finished this one yesterday. It's Revell's new re-release of Jungle Jim's Vega funny car. Certainly not Revell's best kit. Lots of flash to clean and the chrome is very thick, and lots of flash on the chrome tree too. However, the decals are awesome. I only added spark plug wires and tire decals. I also fabricated the clear backglass.

To Clear Or Not Too Clear
Bruno replied to Big Daddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I painted this one with Krylon semi-gloss black. Clear is really not needed on semi-gloss or flat blacks. Also, just so you know, the quarter windows are a pain to install in those '71 Duster AMT kits. You will have some trimming to do on the windows. -
With the talk of spray cans and airbrushes
Bruno replied to Bobdude's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Automotive waterborne basecoat and automotive 4:1 urethane clear, both applied with an airbrush. -
Wow I see some really nice builds in here! It's hard to pick only one, but if I really had to, it would be one of those; '70 Dart Swinger '78 Dodge Towing '34 Ford StreetRod

Revell/Gearz Contest: What Are You Building?
Bruno replied to BOSWELL891's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wanted to enter the contest last year, but was disapointed when I saw that Canadians weren't allowed. And now I just saw yesterday that Canadians are allowed this year! So I will enter the '67 Chevelle, just bought the kit, and I am keeping the receipt, just in case they ask for it... I will enter it in the box stock class. Now I'm wondering what exactly is allowed in the box stock class, only paint and glue? Is BMF allowed? And what about flocking, and spark plug wires? -
I use my airbrush to paint bodies and body parts, and also Alclad, that's about it. The color choice is unlimited with an airbrush, and the finish is way better. The time spent cleaning the airbrush is a lot less than sanding and polishing a spray can paint job. Most of the bodies I spray with my airbrush don't even need to be polished, or just a few dust spots to remove, that's it. I paint most of the small parts with brushes or spray cans.

I use Redline clearcoat right now. It's a 4:1 two part urethane clear, sprayed through my paasche H. I have also used Nason, Select, Fusion, Omni in thw past. Those are all 4:1 two part urethane clears, and they are all pretty much the same. I have also used many rattle can clears, and have never been able to get the same deep shine I get with a urethane clear. If you don't have too much dust and you do a good job at spraying your urethane clearcoat, you won't need to wet sand and polish it. For example, I did not wet sand / polish this one;

1/25 Revell Jungle Jim Vega Funny Car Reissue
Bruno replied to oldscool's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I am currently building this kit, and mine is the same as yours, the body is thin, but straight. Lots of mold lines and flash to clean, ejector pin marks to fill and sand, chrome is very thick, I stripped most of the chrome tree. However the decal sheet is awesome, and the tires are nice too. This kit needs a lot of work to make a nice model. Still, I am happy that Revell re-released this one. -
Yeah I know, someone else mentioned it on another forum and I already fixed it (after taking those pictures...) But I still wonder why I installed it backwards in the first place though...

Here's my '71 Challenger R/T Convertible, built the way I would have ordered it, if it would have been possible to get a '71 Challenger R/T convertible... AMT '70 Challenger kit with '71 resin conversion kit from V.Hart, Keith Marks decals, photo etch seatbelt buckles and hood pins, and some parts from my parts boxes. Color is FJ6 Green Go.

1978 Dodge Towing
Bruno replied to Bruno's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks everyone! Here's some build pics; Kits used Mods done to the bed. Later I did some mods to the upper part too, not shown on those pics I also made 2 tool box doors, one for each side, which I later glued on the bed's quarter panels Modified chassis First mock up. -
When I was a kid, my father had a Sunoco service station, and we had a nice '78 Dodge Towing truck. I just finished a replica of it. I have no pics of the real truck, but I do remember well how it looked like. I still remember the address and phone number of the garage. The truck was always kept clean inside and out, but not the engine bay and chassis... So I did some weathering there... I used the old Revell Lenny's Towing GMC truck kit, along with AMT's Lil Red Express truck kit , printed my own decals, and added a few details here and there... It is not an exact replica, but it did look somewhat like this;

Yes it is a Dart Swinger. It's a resin kit from Scale Coachworks, with AMT's '71 Duster donor kit and Keith Marks decals. More pics of the Swinger here; http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41676&hl=swinger&st=0

This is my first hotrod build in many years, and it was a fun build! It is a tribute to one of my all time favorite bands; Iron Maiden. It's the AMT '34 Ford StreetRod 5 window kit, with many mods and some parts from other kits. I did some tests with printing my own decals, airbrushing and clearing over. I was actually impressed when I saw the decals come out of my old Lexmark printer... Anyway here's my '34 Ford StreetRod;

Help needed... Pegasus wheels and sleeves
Bruno replied to Bruno's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok thanks for the info! But how do I know if the tri-blades and diablo's are 19s? I just saw on the Model Express site that #1195 sleeves convert 15s to 19s, and you say #2399 sleeves convert 19s to 23s, but nowhere on the tri-blades or diablo's it says if they are 15s or 19s... Are all Pegasus wheels 19s? (and then the #1195 sleeves are to convert regular kit wheels to 19s?) -
Ok I need a Pegasus Hobbies wheel expert here! I am ready to order some Pegasus wheels and tires, never used any of those wheels yet. I want bigger wheels/tires on the rear, and I understand those wheel/tires sets are all the same size. So I thought I would use the Pegasus sleeves sets, but now I see they have 3 different sleeve sets and don't know which sleeves will fit the rims I want. For reference, I am looking at the #1202 (tri-blades) and #1246 (diablo's) wheel sets, and I see (on the Pegasus Hobbies site) three different part numbers for alum. sleeves; #1195, #2398 and #2399. Now which alum. sleeve set should I order to fit those wheels?
