Painting raised letters? -Success!
ChrisPflug replied to Kit Basher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Far from perfect but all the emblem detail painting was hand done on this older build- down to crossed flags in the center of the steering wheel over a fairly thick coat of DupliColor from a rattle can -
Painting raised letters? -Success!

Another option for parts like the valve cover is to paint the aluminum first then black then rub the paint off the raised parts Using a more "durable" paint underneath like a silver lacquer may make this process easier Looks like I got beat on this post LOL Other than that- small brushes and lots of practice -
Although I'm sure a version of the '78 4-4-2 would probably sell as well as the 1:1 did Or this predecessor of the T Type/ GN

AMT 1971 Dodge Charger R/T Center Console
ChrisPflug replied to Ironman63's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The original MPC annual had separate buckets with a tub interior and molded in console- actually most Mopar B and E body kits with a console have it molded to the floor Best bet for a separate console would probably be the one from the new Revell 70 Cuda- it appears to be a 71-74 style anyways. In the 1:1 cars the 71-74 B and E body used the same console, the 70 E being slightly different and having a divided "pocket" for the seat belt buckets at the rear (and ashtrays in the rear molded in armrests) where the later models had an ashtray at the rear of the console There are also some resin consoles available- most seem to be copies of the molded in ones and not quite as nice. The MPC annuals all had automatic shifters where the Revell is a 4 speed if that's a concern -
History of Monogram's Dodge Ramcharger

Minor point but the 1980 vehicle as depicted in the kit still had a removable roof, 1981 was the first year for the one piece roof- -

Reviving this one yet again- to further confirm the earlier "suspicions" of the history of the '71-'72 body- If you look very closely at the drivers side quarter ahead of the rear wheel opening you'll see a very slight "bulge" in the body on both the blue NASCAR version and yellow 1987 reissue '71 where the "Road Runner" emblem was on the '72 annual The same basic chrome tree lasted all the way through the '78 Monaco annual with the nice Cragars

View from my office. What does everyone else do all day?
ChrisPflug replied to freakshow12's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I work moving dirt and rocks too as well as coal, ore, salt and occasionally grain on the Great Lakes, kind of like a big dump truck- but up to 21,000 tons in a load. Spend a lot of work time in an "office" in the engine room and am on watch from 11:30 till 3:30 every afternoon and night plus usually a couple hours a day doing miscellaneous repair work. For the next few days we're down and replacing a crankshaft in one of the main ALCO V-16 Diesels (locomotive engines) so have some extra wrench time -

What Kits Were Molded in Green?
ChrisPflug replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The AMT prepainted/ unassembled 71 Charger also came painted that "Green-Go" color I've stripped a couple of the prepainted kits when they were selling cheap- nothing would touch that paint but 91% alcohol All were normal beige RC2 plastic underneath -

Clear body kits
ChrisPflug replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had the clear MPC GTO (as well as a long gone 1/16 Petty Charger I paid $2 for at a rummage sale in the early 80s) As mentioned the clear hoods were big with MPC- 68-72 Vette annuals had then as well -
