  1. I missed the last two years but I'm not missing this one. I'll be brining the same cars I've had before, and maybe a "Modern Muscle" if I ever get around to finishing it. This time I'm bringing the kids since there seems to be something for them at last. Or is there? "To learn more, send an SASE"? Why not just put all the info on the website?
  2. Where would I post my large scale resin diorama of a showroom stock exotic?
  3. Uhm, your list is in the opposite order of the poll's list. That mislead me for a minute. Besides, there's already a button to go to the end of the thread. edit - This is confusing. It's like reading a book backwards.
  4. I've ordered from FP many times before when Len was just starting out, and as recent as last year. All good experiences except one time he swapped my order with someone else's. He was pretty apologetic and offered to make it up. The typing your order into a spreadsheet thing is pretty lame but it's worth it when he has kits on sale for good prices. I ordered models from Tower once with no problems, as usual. I'm a regular customer of theirs for r/c stuff so I knew what to expect. I got some "dented box special" car kits from them at less than $7 each. Unlike most other model kit outlets, you can actually order Evergreen styrene, CA glue and accelerator, Tamiya putty etc. with your kits. I got so sick of that ###### when I was on the Yahoo "ModelcarList" group so I went to HH. Eventually HH turned into MCL except the really hot flamewars get deleted by Tom, which is nice. HH is still a fun place but I don't have the time to read all the posts, which doesn't really matter since a lot of it is the same stuff posted every few days. B.O.M.B., I like that. "OMG Walmart caused my models to be extinct, plus they gave my cat cancer and caused my piles to erupt!! Boycott them!!!11!" Just like that, but with every word misspelled.
  5. See, no matter how many times I hear "support the little guys", this is why I order from big internet-order companies that have real shopping carts and inventory tracking systems. My daughter's 06 Mustang kit was ruined so I told her a new one was on the way. I ordered two of those, plus a bunch of kits from HH last month and after 3 weeks I inquire about it, only to be told that none of them were in stock. Great guy, great store, but I rarely ordered from him due to the ordering system. Well it looks like their system disappointed me for one last time. I'll have to give modelexpress.net a try. At least their menu and ordering system makes sense, and it has pictures with descriptions! What a concept!
  6. I also use the business cards for stands (got 1000s of them from a previous job) but I use 5-minute epoxy for the wheels. That gives me time to align the wheels as the epoxy dries.
  7. Yeah I'm not regularly selling them anymore but I've got lots of stock left. EMail/PM me if you need a few and we can work something out. Just got a new job which includes work at home so I've been really busy. Most of the time I just feel too tired to fire up the programs needed to update the website.
  8. My method is to use a conversion program such as this one to find the metric equivalent and order them by the MM. Since 1mm=1" in 1/25 scale it's close enough for me and easy to calculate without fractions and other archaic voodoo measuring. 1.5" tubing requires 1.5mm rod, a 3" framerail needs 3mm square... you get the idea. Keep a metric ruler handy. What calculates "correct" in scale sometimes doesn't look "right", so some experimenting is in order. For example a 1.6" rollcage/header tube (1/16" Evergreen, which is also 1.6mm or .062") may look too small on the model, so a 2mm tube may work better. Basically, don't sweat the measurements and use what looks right to you.
  9. Yeah I taped a piece of sprue around my xacto handle. Now I have those handles with the hex-nut on the end that keeps it from rolling. At work we glued a foam block to the table and stick the xactos into that. No matter what method, they don't keep you from flicking them off the edge of the table and into your lap/foot/eye if you just leave them sitting around carelessly.
  10. Just tonight I found the set of micro bits I bought off of a surplus website, sciplus.com. It comes in a little metal box with a flip lid. Their description stated that the bits like to fall out of their holders into the box if you hold the box upside down. Well I went one step further and dropped the box while it was open. So, being dark, I grab my telescoping magnet-on-a-stick and combed the rug for them. My cat thought it was great that I was playing with him so he played the "bat the drill bits out of the magnet before they get to Ron" game. Once the cat was "removed" from the room I assembled the pile of bits (drill, not cat bits) on my desk. Now they refuse to go back into the box in order because they're all magnetized and keep sticking to each other. :x BTW the common reflex of closing your legs when dropping somthing on your lap is a bad idea when you drop an x-acto knife. Also, don't mistake a hot soldering iron for a computer mouse.
  11. At a trade show I worked I went to lunch and there was only one person in the lunch room. So we had lunch together and chatted for a while. You could say she's famous, depending on what you like to read. I had no idea who she was at the time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marliece_Andrada A few years ago as we were leaving SFO after picking someone up we ran for an empty elevator. We held the door open for another two guys, and it was Danny Glover his driver. He looked dead-tired so I decided not to talk it up with him. I've met some Steve guy at NNL West who swore he was famous. I almost spent my last $20 on his autographed picture but I bought a Palmer kit instead. Oh yeah I live about a mile from Brizio's shop so we hit him up for some T-shirts every now and then for our school raffles. Nice guy.
  12. Hmm I hope I make it this year, and I'll even try building one of those. My cousin had the nerve to have her wedding during last year's NNL West.
  13. Anyone here build Sci Fi stuff? Any suggestions on forums dedicated to sci fi building? Looking for scratchbuilt one-off scifi vehicles, not Star Trek, Starwars, or anything like that. I need a change from building shiny cars and military models; after a while they all look the same to me. Of course I'll still be building cars but I'm putting the clearcoat and 2000-grit away for a while. Sci-fi cars, anyone?
  14. Hi guys, I didn't have enough forums to waste my time on instead of building models, so I found this one. Just thought I'd hide behind some familiar names rather than starting a new thread.
