This is very cool!

I'm going with real on this one...

Thanks Tim! I think so too! The back half was easy enough just have to mini-tub it. The front is going to need some modification to get it to sit that low and to keep the oil pan from sitting on the ground. I've also got no bench. That pic was taken on my dining room table...it's all I've got to work on where I'm living.

This is a cool concept and the execution is coming along nicely. The interior is beautiful and the airplane parts look very appropriate. Sorry about the bad foil experience, but know you are not alone. I got some of the Testors stuff too and had the same problems. It work just ok, but like you said, it's real sticky. I picked up some Bare Metal Foil this weekend and will be using that from now on. keep up the good work.

So here's a mock up of my 70 Chevelle. Going for a pro-touring kind of style. I grabbed the 454 for my Nomad build, but happened to have a Nascar Chevy small block, that I think I'm going to use. It's not big C.I.'s but I think it would be plenty of muscle. At this point I've scratch built the roll cage and am working on getting the suspension right for the low stance I want. Paint I have planned at this point is british racing green over black, for a dark look. Thanks for looking comments welcome and appriciated!

So those dates posted are pretty do-able for me. So please count me in with a '70 Chevelle. I'll try to get some mock up pics soon.

Here we go again...Updated Dec. 13, 2009

Peter, I'm loving this build too. Growing up I was a big fan of Corvettes. I still am but I've spread my infatuations around in other places too. But I love this concept that you have going on. I can't wait to see it finished. Your work and technique are very impressive. I was looking through photos from the Los Angeles auto show and came across the new BMW concept: Looks like you are really right in line with futuristic thinking and design and may have a pretty legit concept as far a what other Corvette concepts may end up looking like! Keep up the good work. -
After using Oven-Off back in the day and a couple of times recently the purple pond is a revelation! I was at Wally World a few months back and found myself infront of the automotive section and I said what the heck, and grabbed a bottle of the purple power: WOW, this stuff really IS great. You gotta be safe, use gloves and a mask but it works magic. The only thing that I've found it to not work as well on is metallic paints, aluminum and steel otherwise anything else it's fantastic!

Depending on the time frame, I might be interested in joining. I've got a '70 Chevelle I could do.

I've got some RustOleum metallic blue that I want to use on a build. I'm doing a two tone paint job, Blue over Silver. I had painted an entire body using Testors Silver enamel that had dried for a couple of weeks. I sprayed the blue right over the silver, masking the area I wanted to stay silver. I used 3 coats light and 2 medium coats. When I went to pull the tape off the blue paint came right along with it. It seems like the blue sweated between the silver and the blue, it was noticably wet between the two colors. I get the impression that maybe the silver doesn't work well as a "primer". Question one: do I need to use a primer with this paint or can it be sprayed right on the plastic? Question two: Is it a better idea to pime (if necessary) mask for just silver, spray silver, remove masking when ready, dry, mask for just blue, spray blue, un-mask dry? Seems like a lot of work but for the best results I'm willing. This time I'll be doing plastic spoons a couple of ways first to see which works best...just looking for advice. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Looking really good man. I dig it. The red looks good! I've got one of these that I picked up a couple of weeks ago after falling in love with a 1:1 at a car show. How well does this build up, did you have any major fit issues? The one I've got has some twisting going on with the chassis and the pan. With some hot water and gentle twisting I think I can work it out. Just wondering if there are any glaring issues so thanks for any input. I've got some other stuff to finish before starting this one, but it's motivation to get a move on! Cheers.

Peter, this has been a lot of fun to watch and this is turning out beautifully. I can't wait to see this finished. Fantastic work. -
I like the car a lot. Are you going to modify the toy or cast/ build one based on the toy? Either way should yeild some cool results!

So the first one, in Boyd's purple pearl I'm nick naming Nightmare. I started it over 10 years ago but never finished it before leaving the hobby for a while. But after getting back into things I'm determined to get it done. Why the nick name? I swear I've painted and stipped the body 4 or 5 times trying to get the paint right. Turns out pearl paint is a real bi#@% to work with. I either sprayed to heavy and got drips and runs, or sprayed coats too soon on top of each other and got wrinkles etc. Just a pain. But I was determined to get it right and this last time I did pretty good. It's got a few little specks of stuff in it, but I'm not going to stress over it. This is about 6 light coats built up and 4 coats of clear. It's looking good, I might not even polish it. A little foil, paint the inside and I'm calling it good. I'll drop it on the body, connect some hoses and wires and it's done. The second one here is going to be two tone Metallic blue over the silver. The interior is almost done, just some more detail paint to do and finish the steering wheel. I guess it needs a shifter too. I took the white walls out of the AMT 1960 Starliner kit and I think they look just right. Thanks for looking!

Picked up some stuff at the Goodguys Autumn get together in Pleasanton this past weekend. The Shelby was picked out by my girlfriend as her first model kit and she's getting going on that already and loving it! I got the Chevelle mainly for the 454, only to find the details in this kit less than stellar, but it will do. I'll do something with the rest of the kit in the future sometime. The wheel/ tire sets came from a diecast booth, 2 sets for $5. Couldn't pass it up, but they are pretty big for 1/25 scale. They would have to be 20"+. I might find a use for them though. Right before visiting the model booth I fell in love with a '60 Starliner semi-custom and when I saw the kit I just had to have it. I'll do my own spin on it, but I'm using this as a guide. I'm thinking a dark red satin paint job.

The more I look at it, the more stuff bothers me about this. I'm going to have to go real though. Final answer.

My post may have come off the wrong way I think or if anything I want to convey my original intentions. Bob's valve covers look fantastic. Definatley model jewelry and I would be more than happy to use them. I don't want to take anything away from his work. I also was not really aware that the 572's have embossed logo's on them or the raised logo's; thats my mistake. I didn't mean to infer that his (or anyone's) were incorrect. I just didn't do all my homework For me, I like the raised logo look and if I can find some would want to use that for my build. $20 for a set of aluminum valve covers is out of my price range though. I build mostly for myself and the fun and pleasure I get out of it and have to watch where I spend my money . Thank you all for the advice and comments though. The level of knowledge and help makes this a top-notch community to be a part of! Cheers all. ~Ryan

Thanks all. I found the Bob Dudek aluminum valve covers, but they're $20! and they are wrongly done, the lettering in inscribed, not raised. Out of my price range anyways... I'll probably look for something with a 454+ in it and just go from their. I might try to fashion my own valve covers for it so it looks like a 572. I'm doing a 56 Nomad that really wants some muscle! If anyone does come across correct 572 valve cover, could you let me know? Thanks!

I'm trying to find if there is a model kit available that has a Chevy 572 as the included motor or if anyone is making one available aftermarket. I've looked around on the web and come up short. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I'm gonna go real...

Lookin good so far. The interior is fantastic. I like the choice of the purple plug wires too. I'm a big fan of the 62 bel airs, I've got a couple in the works myself.

Beautiful job. This thing just looks right in so many ways! Love it.
