Interests outside of model cars?
Ryan S. replied to Hattley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, after getting back into building over the last year, that certainly absorbs a lot of my free time Other things that I'm into are snowboarding (hooray for winter soon), going to car shows, playing drums (nice to see there's a few of us here !)I've got a show coming up with the band I'm playing in with a couple of buddies, I also play a little guitar and write some of my own tunes, I really enjoy history so I like visiting museums or historical places, I work in the wine industry so I enjoy learning about and consuming wine (wine tasting), as a hopeful career path I'm a voice-over actor though I've done more auditioning lately than anything else. Oh, and hard to pick a favorite beer but New Castle, Boddingtons and Old Rasputin are some of my favorites -
Ain't that the truth! What's funny is that if you look on the shelf in the 2nd pic the tranny is upside down on the blue tape. Had to paint the tranny pan. Thanks for the comment I'm really happy with this kit. It goes together really easily but the quality is top notch, you wouldn't be disappointed by picking one up.

Suggestion about works in progress postings
Ryan S. replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the great thing about the WIP threads is that inspiration or ideas can come from any point in a particular build, not just a finished model. I think a lot of the time, too, little details that people spend a lot of time on are better shown as a WIP because sometimes they can get lost on the finished build, or are not easy to photograph when finished. I get bummed too, sometimes when builds I've been following fall off the radar or stop receiving updates but that's life right? The builders could have one of a million different reasons for not updating. And that's ok because there's going to be plenty of other builds posted to look at and get ideas from. The thing that's great about forums like this is that everyone's individuality shows though and you never know when you might pick up an idea or technique you never thought of before. So I say keep the WIP's coming. just my $0.02 -
Lil update today. I've been giving this one some attention. Got the interior painted. Nothing is glued in yet, just mocked up. The dash is just started with the detail painting. I have to do the gauge decals and clean it up some. The floor is flocked with a mix of black and white embossing powder then shot with 2 coats of satin finish clear to help seal it so it doesn't flake off all over the place. Still deciding if I like the steering wheel; I'm pretty sure I do... Paint on the body is cured up, have to give it a wet sand to smooth it out then I'm going to satin clear coat it. I like that look on this car. Just got in some M.A.D. distributors so I'll be wiring up the motor before too long. Thanks for looking

Dude, that thing is sweet. Looks perfect with the gold paint. I think the roof is the best part. Do you have a picture of the decals you used?

Revell models listed at walmart.com

Thanks for the heads up on this. With the free shipping to the store it's not a bad deal. -
Too cool man, this turned out great. I love all the little details like the door handles and the wrench pedals. The exit sign is perfect too and I still dig the grenade shifter. Well done!

As promised, here's a little eye candy for you all. Still working on the BMF on the trim. Slow going. The bumpers are not glued on just stuck in place for the mock up. In the first pic you can kind of see how I adjusted the pan behind the front bumper to bring it closer to the grill rather than sticking out as far as it did. (To me it didn't look right that far out.) I've got to trim down the sides where it overlaps into the wheel well. I didn't notice that before. Thanks for looking and following along. I think the next time I update this, it will be under glass. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Cheers!

Very clever and well done. The zip tie straps look pretty good and give you a square base to mount onto the model; painted up I bet that looks great. Thanks for sharing!

Looking good Clay! Excellent choice of color- I love that orange! I just picked this kit up a few weeks ago and have a two toned paint job in mind and that orange is one of the colors I'm going to use so it's nice to see that it looks so good on the 55. I love the mid 50's Ford truck and the 55 is probably my fav. Keep up the good work!

Thanks again for the comments. Coincidentally, this popped back up on page one as I sit here doing some BMF work on the Nomad. I'd like to wrap this baby up by weeks end so I can get to some of the other projects I'm working on. I've forgot just how much "finish work" goes into putting together all the last little bits of a model. It can be tedious and hard not to rush! I'll try and get an update pic up today or tomorrow if I have time!

Man this thing is cool. Can't wait to see it wrapped up and under glass. Keep it up!

Is is suspended or "welded solid" to the frame? Either way this thing would make for one rough ride. But a cool ride at the same time

Well done. That paint is slick, I like the sweep down onto the doors. Great colors. I've got one of these in the works myself. It's a pretty nice kit.

I've also had success stripping chrome with Oven-Off and/or Purple Power from Wal-Mart; though I don't recall if either will take off the under coat.

Love that color! The paint came out great and it photographs real well. Great looking build.

Sounds like quite the ride. Can't wait to see it! -
Kinda in between some projects so I've started piecing together one of Revell's 49 Mercs to fill some time. I cleaned up the body and chassis of mold lines and pin marks. Shaved the drip rails above the windows for a real smooth look. Body will be a pistachio satin green. Interior will be ivory white, jade and pistachio greens. Went back and forth with the power for this thing, and decided on the Parts Pak Caddy motor with the 6 carbs. Wheels are from the AMT 49 Merc Sedan. I just love the smooth steelies. The chassis pic gives a hint of the colors. Not real sure how often I'll be working on this one too start, but thanks for taking a look! I'll keep it updated as I come along.

The grenade shifter is awesome. Can't wait to see this one come together.

This came out sweet. That's one cooooool looking ride. Well done! -
This came out real nice. I like the color better that the silver, it looks right. I think a set of wheels like that also came in one of the '40 Ford kits (I built one years and years ago) but I couldn't tell you which one. Maybe the Lindberg 3 in 1.

Romell, I've been watching this (and your other builds too) but this thing is just amazing. It's really something to watch this come together and the level of care and detail you are putting in to this is second to none. It's really an inspiration. The lights are just over the top great, man; I really dig them. This is a build that people will just stop and stare at for a long time trying to find all the little things that really make it outstanding. Not too mention, but DANG, this thing is huge! I hope you've got a lot of shelf space cleared for this beast! Keep up the great work!

This whole thing is lookin neat! Great concept. One thing I love about this hobby is seeing people's ideas for cars that never were, but look like they should have been. Thanks for showing how you did the wheels and the trim ring. I'm totally going to use this for an upcoming project that needs the same treatment and I don't think that I would have thought to drill out another set of rims to add a ring to others. Brilliant. Keep up the good work! Cheers

Beautifully done. This thing is a work of are. Well done!
