LOWMOBILE Let's not forget the fuzzy dice Bryan, hee.
-
Thanks guys..... Here's the frame I started with.... and here's the finished modified frame painted in oil rubbed metallic bronze.....when the paint dries, I'll assemble a roller.

Thanks gang.......I really appreciate your input and suggestions. It's interesting that I haven't spent a dime on this build, time & scratch building for sure, but no coin. It all started when the old woman came in the hobby room & said "good grief....clean this mess up & get rid of some of this junk that you're never going to use". Okay, I understand that but she doesn't seem to understand that I might use this or that someday, maybe...maybe not, hee, hee. So in an effort to humor her I figured I'd see if I could build a car from some of my stash. Anyhow back to the build........ I cut down a '35 Auburn grille for the nose but wasn't really happy going with traditional buggy spring front suspension. I decided to see if I could come up with a custom one off front set-up that was similar to the VW torsion bar unit but wider with disc brakes, dropped spindles along with rack & pinion steering. Here's the goodies from the parts box and some scraps of plastic and tubing. Here it is loosely assembled ready for some eyeballin' & more fabricating...........works for me.

"CRANKENSTIEN"(a small tribute to the "doc") DONE! 11/13/12
GrandpaMcGurk replied to bryan_m's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I DID BRING COOKIES !!!!!!!!!!! They were on the table by the door. Don't you remember, Neal was crabbing at me 'cause I didn't bring any milk. -
Did a loose mock-up to check the stance with the 16" inch cycle tires up front and to get an over-all peek as to what it's going to look like.............guess now I need a name for this puppy?
-
Okay guys, thanks for all your suggestions....it's decided it wants 4 tires....not 3! Here's a few pics of the progress............. Sure hope that little bug motor has enough beans to turn those big honkin' dragster tires!

Bryan........if you put valve stems in the wheels (with a missing cap or two) you'll be eligible for a cookie..........AND 2 GOLD Stars...great job man. -
MUD BUG! Gettin' Dirty...Deals Wheels Style! Done: 11-12-12
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Ira's topic in WIP: Model Cars
My, oh my...........just when I think I've got a handle on what you're up to....you blow me away again! Far Too Kool Ira! -
Got the engine wired, scratch built a distributor w/vacuum advance, the dual port intakes and carbs are getting close, belt is on.......gotta make a coil, fuel pump, exhaust and carb linkage. Started bending up & shaping the torsion bar arms for the rear from soft metal.........dang, a lot of work for a model that will fit on a buck with room to spare!
-
Les...already did one of those.........
-
You nailed it James..........spot on.
-
Replaced the VW generator with a 12 volt alternator, made some pulleys to replace that one piece belt guard that came with the Manx kit. Started fabbing up the dual port intake tubes... dug a couple of larger carbs and cogged belt out of the parts box. Just a quick check to make sure it'll fit......yep!
-
Go for it...sounds way cool.
-
Now that's a hot rod!
-
Heck Rob, grab a chunk of styrene and cut a couple out....they're easy to make.
-
Next meeting Jim, I want to give you time to cast some of those air filters.....one for each side.
-
Problem with putting the heater in the front is that the ring and pinion would have to be flopped, run backwards or regrind the cam to run the engine in the opposite direction. Yes it could be done but I think I'll leave it in the rear. It would however look pretty kool with a valve cover and headers hanging out of each of the hood sides. At any rate, many thanks to all you guys that have offered suggestions. One thing I have decided to do is slap some wood on the sides of the top and use a vinyl or fabric roof covering........also some obscenely wide rear tires. Whether it's a Volksrod or trike, wire wheel(s) on the front.

FAST model contest pics
GrandpaMcGurk replied to crazyjim's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
We had the contest on Sat. but it was a 3 day gig so here's a few random eye candy shots of the display FAST set-up for Fri. & Sun. These are all models that were built by FAST members. How's this for a motley crew (believe it or not), these guys are "elected officials" hee. The Pres., Treasurer & V.P. Left to right JIM- president, NEAL-treasurer, DON-vice president. More to come...later. -
Perhaps wire cycle wheels up front, the gas tank & battery could hide under a hood and fake radiator.............dunno yet, still ciphering. The engine won't be readily visible "enclosed" in the back of the C-cab so it could look like a custom C-cab street rod. However, I can't seem to shake the idea of kicking a springer way out front and making it a wild trike.

Guys, this thing can't make up it's mind what it wants to be...........what would you like to see happen? Just a few pics of the parts........... I used the cowl from a T kit and scratch built the rest of the body, a kit T frame as a starting point & a VW engine from a Manx kit. The engine will have dual port heads & more than likely a couple of Weber's or fuel injection?
-
Yeah Rob, been thinking about sitting it on a trailer with a wooden crate of "as is" parts....you know, heads, carb and intake etc.
-
Many thanks guys.......think I'm blushing.
-
Thanks gang, it was a fun little build.

HARD TIMES.........The photos should tell the story........
